Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, October 28, 2020

Miles Taylor, the former chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security, was the anonymous author of The New York Times Op-Ed article in 2018 whose description of President Trump as "impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective" roiled Washington and set off a hunt for his identity, Mr. Taylor confirmed Wednesday.

FTA:

Trump has been exactly what we conservatives always said government should NOT be: expansive, wasteful, arbitrary, unpredictable, and prone to abuses of power. Worse still, as I've noted previously, he's waged an all-out assault on reason, preferring to enthrone emotion and impulse in the seat of government. The consequences have been calamitous, and if given four more years, he will push the limits of his power further than the "high crimes and misdemeanors" for which he was already impeached.

FTA:

Removing Trump will not be the end of our woes, unfortunately. While on the road visiting swing states for the past month, it's become clear to me how far apart Americans have grown from one another. We've perpetuated the seemingly endless hostility stoked by this divisive President, so if we really want to restore vibrance to our civic life, the change must begin with each of us, not just with the occupant of the Oval Office. Fortunately, past generations have lit the way toward national reconciliation in even harder times.

On the brink of a civil war that literally split our nation in two, Abraham Lincoln called on the people not to lose sight of one other. He said in his Inaugural Address:

We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

Heed Lincoln's words. We must return to our founding principles. We must rediscover our better angels. And we must reconcile with each other, repairing the bonds of affection that make us fellow Americans.

"Trump has been exactly what we conservatives always said government should NOT be: expansive, wasteful, arbitrary, unpredictable, and prone to abuses of power."

Well duh. News flash: Conservatives are simply lying when they say those things.

Take the death penalty. Conservatives still cream their khaki pants over capital punishment, and it's "wasteful, arbitrary, unpredictable, and prone to abuses of power." And even expanded a little under Trump.

Conservatives are simply liars. Take the treatment of Merrick Garland. It was "wasteful, arbitrary, unpredictable, and prone to abuses of power."

Conservatives are simply liars.

I hear you bro. But it's not as easy as you think. Trumpism is like a disease. It infects the federal workplace. Trump is undermining all protections of whistleblowers. Unless you have been there you cannot possibly understand. The pressures can be tremendous. Not everyone is squeaky clean. Everyone has a weak spot. Well almost everyone. See Col Vindman for the gory details. I did not see a weak spot in his career. But yet he was crushed. And is no longer employed. For speaking out. For testifying in Congress against Trumpism.

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman retires, citing campaign of bullying' and retaliation' by Trump after impeachment testimony

I was also "forced" to retire. For different but reasons. But basically it was so hostile it was affecting my health and my about to do my job. So I understand completely. And I am not a Col Vindman. Not even close.

If trump wins I expect a lot of "forced" retirements and "forced" resignations from the civil service as Trumpy installs party loyalists to protect his flanks.

Pray that it doesn't happen. Because that's the beginning of the end.

Mr. Taylor has probably gotten 2-3 death threats by the time of this writing. It once was that such threats were issued by fat guys pawing an old .45 with no firing pin, in Mom's basement. Now they're issued by fat guys pawing fully-operational Bushmasters, in Mom's kitchen. In either case, the fat guy drives a barely operational S-10 pickup with mis-matched doors, bad rings and a leaky head gasket. But now, the fat guy means what he says, activated by his fat, orange leader...
