Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The United States logged 9 million Covid-19 cases on Thursday just hours after reporting a single day record of 80,622 infections, the latest NBC News tally showed. It was the first time the U.S. crossed the 80,000-case threshold since the start of the pandemic and the third time in a week that a daily case record was broken, the data showed.

The 996 Covid-19 fatalities reported Wednesday raised the national death toll to near 230,000, which is the most in the world, according to the Johns Hopkins University Covid-19 dashboard.

The dire development came with Election Day less than a week away and as President Donald Trump insists repeatedly on the campaign trail that "we are rounding the turn" on the pandemic.

Covid-19 infections have been spreading across the U.S. at the fastest rate since the crisis began even before the country hit the dismal benchmark of 9 million coronavirus infections.

We're Number One(!) ---- in death and disease. This is greatness we can do without.

The United States reported 89,940 new coronavirus cases on Thursday - the highest single-day count since the start of the pandemic.
Another hour, another record.

More sickness, more misery, more death.

I wonder how fetuses are doing. Seriously I wonder. That shoe hasn't dropped.

Not meaning to be a Debbie downer BUUUUUUUTTT the measles virus screwed up a whole lot of fetuses even if it was mild for the mother.

Then there is that freaky Zeta virus thingie... and the ensuing epidemic of microcephaly... which is permanent.

Seems to me that taking any virus pandemic lightly is ... uuuhhhhmmmm .... something only pigs would do.

Just more evidence of how we're rounding the corner. Plus, people don't die from it anyway, as the Trump Royal Family announced today.

Covid Ravages Rural America, Sweeping Through Montana's Plains

...Montana's Big Horn County has 5,000 square miles, vast stretches of gravel roads and just two outposts for health care: an 18-bed critical access hospital and a clinic for the Crow and Northern Cheyenne tribal reservations.

Covid-19's sweep across rural America is forcing small regional hospitals and far-flung facilities like these, many with few doctors and no ventilators, to combat a virus that has stressed even the world's biggest health-care systems.

In Hardin, the seat of the Connecticut-sized county, Mayor Joe Purcell doubles as head of nursing for a long-term care home. He's worked all but two days since the end of July thanks to the triple burden of caring for Covid patients, enforcing lockdown regimes and a lack of staff....

If only we would stop testing we would be fine...and also get rid of those ballots!

15 cases soon to be zero!!

It will disappear like magic. As soon as it gets warm. Or maybe when it gets cold. Whatever. It's magic!

On the current trajectory, it could be 20 million by the end of the year.

Thanks anti-maskers!

There's an uptick here in Connecticut. We went from a less than 2% positivity rate to a 6% positivity rate in about a week.

The contact tracing is showing that the virus is spreading because of private gatherings with families and friends where people have become less diligent about distancing and mask-wearing, sporting events (youth and adult recreational leagues, in addition to pro leagues),

We already tried that plan with the Grabbenfurher.

All yer Blah Blah Blah did nothing to contain the Trumpy virus.

And now millions are infected and hundreds of thousands of Americans are dead and dying.

What fatality rate do you find acceptable?

Maybe that should have been a nation wide question on our ballots this year.

U.S Coronavirus Cases Top 9 MIllion

..."There is no way to sugarcoat it: We are facing an urgent crisis, and there is an imminent risk to you, your family members, your friends, your neighbors," Gov. Tony Evers of Wisconsin said Thursday, the Times reported.

Evers' state had been hard by coronavirus: More than 200 coronavirus deaths have been announced over the past week, and as case numbers have exploded, hospitals have strained....

Reports of new cases are increasing in 42 states, the Times said. Northeastern states, including New Jersey and Rhode Island, are seeing infection numbers rise after months of stability. In North Dakota, where more than 5 percent of the population has now tested positive -- the biggest share of any state -- reports of new cases continue to soar....

The situation is grim in the Texas town of El Paso: The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 has more than tripled over the past three weeks, and doctors at University Medical Center there have started airlifting some patients to hospitals as far away as San Antonio while treating others in a field hospital in a nearby parking lot, the Times reported.

States, cities and towns are responding to this latest coronavirus surge with new restrictions that range from a nightly business curfew in Newark, N.J., to a two-week stay-at-home order in El Paso to a halt to indoor dining in Chicago, the Times reported....

Had a death certificate come across my desk a month ago of a guy who stuck a 357 magnum to his head and pulled the trigger. Jon Bel Edwards admin reported it as a Covid-19 death. When it was questioned, those of us who are actually privy to the actual daily numbers first hand were mandated to sign a gag order or loose our jobs and face legal issues. He has also ordered post-mortem testing on pretty much everyone. And any of those tests that come back positive are counted as Covid-related deaths. He is the only Democratic Governor in the South and I image there is a tremendous amount of pressure for him to make it hurt until after the election. Even his advisors have admitted that. I can only assume that the rest of the nations Democrat governors are doing the same thing. I, along with my counterparts have attempted to sue the SOB. Unfortunately, he has closed government offices at will for the last month or two due to Hurricanes. How convenient.

Every Red state is in this conspiracy, too.
They're getting SOCKED.
And the excess death rate? That's in the conspiracy, too. Somehow.

Sorry, but not buying this one bit. Something that widespread as it would have to be couldn't be kept a secret.

You should phone that into Tucker Carlson. He needs a new conspiracy theory.

BTW - the case load and death rate for Louisiana, if what you're saying is true, looks way, way better than states around it, so he's really f**king up with those numbers! He's going to have to work hard to pull even with Mississippi, Arkansas is running away with awful numbers, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama? I mean how far do you have to go to find a state that's doing anywhere near as good as Louisiana?

Looks like y'all ought to be glad you got him even though July was rough.

How convenient.

And rare.

There's no evidence doctors or hospitals are increasing revenue because of COVID-19 diagnosis and death.

There's no evidence doctors or hospitals are increasing revenue because of COVID-19 diagnosis and death.

Dude. Just read this financial statement from hospital chain HCA, Q2 2020.

"Net income attributable to HCA Healthcare, Inc. totaled $1.079 billion, or $3.16 per diluted share, compared to $783 million, or $2.25 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2019."

Income is up like $300 million! They're killing it with this COVID!

Next sentence:

"The Company recognized $822 million ($590 million net of tax), or $1.73 per diluted share, in government stimulus income during the second quarter of 2020 related to general distribution funds received from the provider relief fund established by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security ("CARES") Act."

80% of that income was corporate welfare.

So Much Winning!

The nation's leading infectious-disease expert gave a blunt assessment's of President Donald Trump's COVID-19 failures in a bombshell new interview with The Washington Post.

"We're in for a whole lot of hurt. It's not a good situation," Fauci told the newspaper. "All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. You could not possibly be positioned more poorly.

Way to go, Dotard.
