Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, November 17, 2020

On Monday, The Washington Post reported that Georgia's Republican secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, revealed in an interview that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) pressured him to toss thousands of valid ballots -- and even suggested blocking entire counties from having their mail-in ballots counted.

The atmosphere has grown so contentious, Raffensperger said, that both he and his wife, Tricia, have received death threats in recent days, including a text to him that read: "You better not botch this recount. Your life depends on it."

"Other than getting you angry, it's also very disillusioning," Raffensperger said of the threats, "particularly when it comes from people on my side of the aisle. Everyone that is working on this needs to elevate their speech. We need to be thoughtful and careful about what we say." He said he reported the threats to state authorities.

The normally mild-mannered Raffensperger saved his harshest language for Rep. Douglas A. Collins (R-Ga.), who is leading the president's effort to prove fraud in Georgia and whom Raffensperger called a "liar" and a "charlatan." Collins has questioned Raffensperger's handling of the vote and accused him of capitulating to Democrats by not backing allegations of voter fraud more strongly.

Raffensperger has said that every accusation of fraud will be thoroughly investigated, but that there is currently no credible evidence that fraud occurred on a broad enough scale to affect the outcome of the election.

This is big, and it likely wouldn't resonate as loudly if the protagonist wasn't himself an elected Republican calling out members of his own party for trying to commit voting fraud in broad daylight. Frankly, there must be some laws being broken by those wrongly implying illicit conduct from legally cast votes when the only illicit conduct is trying to be perpetrated by the accusers themselves.

Hopefully, these actions will become a foundational issue in the upcoming Senate runoffs - once and for all proving that Republicans are not interested in free and fair elections unless they are the ones declared the winners by any means necessary - including by invalidating legal ballots cast against them. These cretins attack our voting systems and claim that invisible others have acted corruptly when in fact it is they who are both lying and trying to usurp the expressed will of the voters by making false claims publicly and asking for corrupt illegal machinations privately.

I'm assuming this text was to his personal phone number.

Which is even more disturbing as it must be someone he's personally friends with.

GOP putting party and power over country is nothing new.

They have been doing it for 40 years.

"he and his wife, Tricia, have received death threats in recent days, including a text to him that read: "You better not botch this recount. Your life depends on it.""

Well there is another member of the law and order party threatening people for not doing what they want.

Law and order means nothing to these GOP thugs so long as they get their way. The text message should be pretty easy to trace as I doubt the sender would be smart enough to use a burner phone.

I've been threatened with death a number of times in my life. It goes with the culture. It's part of what Trumpites are anxious to protect, their right to threaten other people with death.

I've ben threatened with death over some of the most minor things imaginable. This guy and his family? My heart goes out to them. There are people out there planning to execute him on live TV.

Call Lindsey Graham's office and tell him to stay the hell out of Georgia and to focus on his own state's constituents!

Without some fancy courtroom drama (Do you all see a re-make of "My Cousin Vinny"?), Trump doesn't have a chance in The Peach State. Imagine if one or both of the Senate runoffs is also tightly contested. There cold be actual gunplay...

It blow my mind that if there is proof of this, that Lady G isn't wearing a pretty pink jumpsuit right now.

We need Lindsey in the GOP because there never seems to be a bottom.

Pun intended

The senate, if it were indeed interested in ethics (I know, I know), would be opening an ethics investigation of Lady G pronto.

Moscow Mitch will, as usual, ignore this GOP trampling of ethical conduct. Again.

It's all about Georgia and ending this mess once and for all.

And it goes against my general sensibilities, but rigor mortis needs to finish the job on this demon spawn that hatched in Kentucky.

Lie to get what you want,
Take, more than your share,
share, only with the rich & powerful,
Put Party over Country,
Win at any cost...
Utterly deplorable & contemptible...

Republicans proving once again that they don't really believe in democracy. They only believe in pure partisan power, which I don't understand because they show no interest in legislating. We now understand what the GOP judges and other white people in the white nationalist party mean by "orriginalism," they believe America was great back when the only people who could vote were white, land-owning men.

You mean like this...www.foxnews.com

Libs think everything they do is legal. Seriously. Look at all of the crime they have supported. If they think it will get them votes, they will agree with it regardless of legality. The Reps are trying to keep things legal (don't cry and run to a safe space, Dems would be doing the same thing if the positions are reversed and it's already been done by both sides multiple times over the years). But there is only one side who has been actively campaigning for people to do illegal things and that's the Dems. You can't deny it or argue it. It's all out there. So don't try to be all high and mighty now when the other side starts doing the same thing. Just admit your faults and try to better them instead of attacking the other side because your ego and entitlement don't like it.

#20 | Posted by humtake

When repubs do something inexcusable, all repubs can say is "well in my fantasy world in my head, dems would do the same thing!"

Dems are not the same as repubs. When dems elect a lifelong con man who is a moron, sociopath, narcissist, racist, and cult leader all in one, then you can start acting like dems are as evil and stupid as repubs.

"Libs think everything they do is legal."

Trump's legal team has been challenging everything Dems have done in the last election and conservative judges have asked for some evidence which the Republicans can't produce.

You are one blunt con-tool.

Your link:
What is wrong with what the Dems plan on doing in that link? Nothing illegal for sure. They are campaigning for two Senators or moving to Georgia. If they don't actually MOVE to Georgia then there are penalties - pretty stiff ones and I am certain the Republicans in charge will only be too eager to charge Dems with violations. Georgia has pretty clear rules on what establish residency for various things including voting. If you don't meet them you simply don't meet them. On the flip side if you stay in Georgia for a particular amount of time the state absolutely expects you to become a citizen and pay taxes and if you don't there are pretty stiff penalties. It isn't about your "intent" to permanently dwell there at all. Georgia's rules are actually kind of lax on establishing residency.

These races are of great interest to both parties nationwide. Senate races are in theory about the greater good and not just a state level thing. Sure each state gets to send 2 but lets be real what for example Mitch has done isn't about his home state. It is about Federal level nationwide law.

Pertaining to THIS story:
So from what I take about your whataboutism and blabbering post, in your mind it's perfectly okay for the GOP to threaten and cajole a GOP state official into breaking the law? Noted. You think it is okay the GOP literally wants to STEAL the state's election by illegally tossing valid votes? Noted. You don't think there is anything wrong with it because Democrats are doing something perfectly legal in regard to the senate elections.

You didn't see the 60 minutes segment or the articles about it I take it. It wasn't blank pages. It was his executive orders and such. It wasn't a plan though.

Lindsey may have finally got his nads snagged by their curlies according to this report from the Wall Street Journal:

Mr. Raffensperger said that when he was contacted by Mr. Graham Friday, he thought the senator was calling about the state's two senate races. After an initial conversation, Mr. Graham called back again and brought up the idea of invalidating absentee ballots from counties with higher rates of signature errors, Mr. Raffensperger said, adding that he had staffers with him on that call.

Mr. Raffensperger and his staffers agreed not to act on any of Mr. Graham's suggestions, he said. "We have laws in place," he said.

www.wsj.com

It's not just Lindsey's word against Raffensperger anymore, it's Lindsey's word versus a number of others who listened to every word that he said.

At this point, it's up to the incoming Biden DOJ to determine whether any federal laws were broken, but there is no doubt that Lindsey would never have the same conversation with South Carolina's Secretary of State or he would have found himself immediately afoul of state election laws.

#32 - Graham's on TV saying "I said why not have a bipartisan team verify signatures, not one person" which sounds reasonable until you think for a second or two and realize that signature verification happens before the ballot is opened, so no one doing the verification knows who the person is voting for just by their signature.

Dishonest lying POS Graham.
