Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

In a total loss the the Trump campaign, a federal district court in Pennsylvania has dismissed the most serious case brought by the campaign and denied the campaign a motion to file an amended complaint. The judge just excoriates this suit, which those of us in the field have called ridiculous from the start:

I think this is the last of his lawsuits challenging the election. Although, I read an article earlier that claimed he plans to file a new one in Georgia early next week.

From the cited article, the Judge said...

...n other words, Plaintiffs ask this Court to disenfranchise almost seven million voters. This Court has been unable to find any case in which a plaintiff has sought such a drastic remedy in the contest of an election, in terms of the sheer volume of votes asked to be invalidated. One might expect that when seeking such a startling outcome, a plaintiff would come formidably armed with compelling legal arguments and factual proof of rampant corruption, such that this Court would have no option but to regrettably grant the proposed injunctive relief despite the impact it would have on such a large group of citizens.

That has not happened. Instead, this Court has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, unpled in the operative complaint and unsupported by evidence. In the United States of America, this cannot justify the disenfranchisement of a single voter, let alone all the voters of its sixth most populated state. Our people, laws, and institutions demand more. At bottom, Plaintiffs have failed to meet their burden to state a claim upon which relief may be granted. Therefore, I grant Defendants' motions and dismiss Plaintiffs' action with prejudice....

... Instead, this Court has been presented with strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations, ...

Woof.

GOP Sen. Pat Toomey: Trump has exhausted all plausible legal options
www.axios.com

...Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) congratulated President-elect Joe Biden on his win, hours after a judge in Pennsylvania dismissed a Trump campaign lawsuit that sought to block the certification of the election results in the state.

What he's saying: "With today's decision by Judge Matthew Brann, a longtime conservative Republican whom I know to be a fair and unbiased jurist, to dismiss the Trump campaign's lawsuit, President Trump has exhausted all plausible legal options to challenge the result of the presidential race in Pennsylvania," Toomey said....

@#5

My question is whether or not Sen Toomey's comment will matter in the views of the supporters of Pres Trump.

My initial guess is that the comment informs, but does not affirm.

Therefore the Trump supporters will reject it, as it runs counter to their beliefs.

I'll bet the RNC wishes they'd picked somebody smarter.

Oh well, 2024 is another day. I suspect Tom Cotton, another practitioner of sedition, (and an Obama hater) has already put his name in the hat.

This will not matter to Trump's cult:

Now, Fryar says he would go to war for Trump. He has joined the newly formed South Plains Patriots, a group of a few hundred members that includes a "reactionary" force of about three dozen - including Fryar and his son, Caleb - who conduct firearms training.

Nothing will convince Fryar and many others here in Sundown - including the town's mayor, another Patriots member - that Democrat Joe Biden won the Nov. 3 presidential election fairly. They believe Trump's stream of election-fraud allegations and say they're preparing for the possibility of a "civil war" with the American political left.

"If President Trump comes out and says: 'Guys, I have irrefutable proof of fraud, the courts won't listen, and I'm now calling on Americans to take up arms,' we would go," said Fryar, wearing a button-down shirt, pressed slacks and a paisley tie during a recent interview at his office.

OK.

So they become serial killers. It still doesn't alter the country's political landscape. Biden will still be the president.

Maybe I'm interpolating, but when someone says they will go to war for Trump, I interpret it as them saying they will go to war in order to ensure Trump remains president. There is no rational roadmap for that to happen. Lubbock is not so far from Abilene, where the 7th Bomb Wing maintains three squadrons of B-1 bombers, each capable of carrying 24 GBU-31 JDAMS. Unless the South Plains Patriots have managed to acquire some sort of air defense systems, they're not going to have much game against any of the forces that are brought to bear against them.

Fact.

It doesn't have to be overt violence like Iraq. Might have a couple bombs, attempted or successful. Maybe some killings.

But what if it's as simple as violent interruptions of elections? A couple of prominent Biden supporters houses burn down under suspicious circumstances? Local head of the Dem party's brake lines get cut one night? Or they come home from a family outing to find their dog hanging from a tree? Or their house broken into and trashed with nothing stolen?

There doesn't have to be an overt insurrection with ranks of hillbilly "soldiers" marching down main street in ---------- where ever for political violence to tear this place apart.

No.

I can't speak for the military writ-large, but Trump lost the confidence of the Officer Corps when he fired Mattis. He was on shaky ground even before that. His comments on John McCain were incredibly offensive to service members.

Bottom line, most military people have some semblance of principle. Trump has none. That's a problem.

The only place that is remotely true is Afghanistan. And while the Taliban does still exist, the people running the show in 2001 are either dead or retired to Pakistan.

And Al Quaeda is gone. I spent a year in the desert doing targeting, probably poured over ten thousand serialized intelligence reports...I could count on one hand how many referenced AQ.

We created the insurgencies when we created a power vacuum.

The only place that is remotely true is Afghanistan.

I claim zero expertise here but that's not the public face put on the Iraq war.

Didn't a large report by David Patreuse pinpoint a lack of counter insurgency success as the biggest problem in Iraq?

And then there's the simple fact that we handily won the initial "war" in a traditional sense then spent 10 years battling an insurgency that shifted and changed but never went away.

I don't disagree with that. White nationalists have been around for years, waiting for their moment in the sun. Trump has just given them the impetus to rise again. With Trump as their driving force and protector they don't have to wear those sheets and pointy hats any more. (figuratively speaking)

I think we have to remember that white nationalist have completely different goals than the RNC and Donald Trump although they do mesh in certain areas for convenience ~ but for different missions.
