Paul Krugman: We all knew that Donald Trump would react badly to defeat. But his refusal to concede, the destructiveness of his temper tantrum and the willingness of almost the entire Republican Party to indulge him have surpassed even pessimists' expectations. [H]e's doing all he can to wreck America on his way out, in ways large and small.

Among other things, his officials are already trying to sabotage the economy, setting the stage for a possible financial crisis on Joe Biden's watch.

To the uninitiated, the sudden announcement by Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury secretary, that he's terminating support for several emergency lending programs created back in March might not seem like that big a deal.

Given everything else that's happening, it's hard to see Mnuchin's move as anything but an act of vandalism, an attempt to increase the odds of disaster under Trump's successor.

The thing is, until this latest move, it looked as if Mnuchin might be one of the few officials who managed to emerge from their service under Trump without completely destroying their reputations. Well, scratch that: He's joined the ranks of Trump loyalists determined to trash the nation on their way out the door.

It's going to be very interesting to see how former Trump officials are treated after he leaves office slashing and burning on his way out of the door. With so many former Bushies already on the front lines of the Resistance and/or spearheading various Never Trump efforts and organizations, it appears all that's left to see is just how severely Trump enablers will be treated as pariahs by their peers and the media.

The amount of institutional destruction they watched and facilitated is horrifying. And it's still continuing even after Trump's historic defeat.

Trump the malignant narcissist, the outright sociopath, is doing to the country what less powerful sick men do to their wives following a divorce.

It's the equivalent of killing the dog, draining the bank accounts, maxing out the credit cards, and threatening to steal the children.

It's all so ordinary, really, except for the scale.

The country for it's own good needs to do everything within law to punish Donald Trump. There are likely dozens of things he can righteously go to prison for. Put him there.

I'm telling you his meltdown was/is a national security risk.. frankly the picture that's been painted of it is the best one to show because the reality of it is far worse.

We all know he has and is still revealing intelligence to Putin yet we allow this traitor to remain in the WH. The idea that we elect a new President and the loser of that election gets to remain in office until Jan. 20 is absolutely crazy. We don't live in 1789, we need to reform our Constitution and eliminate the EC and the date that the new President assumes power No lame duck President should be allowed to remain in power for several months sewing all sorts of damage to our nation and expecially if they are traitors like Trump.

For Republicans, this is all part to of their decades old Starve the Beast strategery.

This time they only had 4 years to line their pockets while putting the economy on life life support, so this time they didn't get to cut corporate and billionaire taxes AND have a war to pay for, but they did get a Pandemic instead, hurrah!

Now they are fine with whatever further cripples the economy while Trump exists, so that the Dem Pres will have a tougher time and take even longer cleaning up their mess, and pay for that at the polls next time.

Rinse, repeat.

Political parties run on money and I see no way the established GOP will give this guy any, and I see no way this guy will not steal most of what will be given to him by his flock of suckers. Trump may think he will run again in 2024, but in 2-3 years when he starts asking for cash in a serious manner, folks will start asking about what he did with what they gave him from 2020-2023. Trump will be spending all he can on repaying portions of his real estate debts.

The day he walks out of the White House for the final time in these coming weeks will be Trump's last day there. He will be found guilty of treason or some other crime before he is elected president again. He leaves too many people with retribution and payback on their minds...

Well George Bush also wrecked the economy but Obama was quite able to put it back together, I feel confident Joe Biden will too.

Yeah, he will... and then like with Obama the next GOP Pres will take credit for the recovered economy.

All part of the Starve the Beast cycle.

The local Mickey D's and KFC will see a substantial drop in their business on January 21. He's gonna have to hire someone to drive across the bridge from Palm Beach to grab his daily 5000 calorie fast food feast.
