Formula One Driver Survives Fiery Crash

Formula One driver Romain Grosjean was involved in a horrific crash that left his car engulfed in flames at the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, causing the race to be halted ... The French driver miraculously emerged from the flames after several seconds and was immediately tended to by the track side emergency services. "He's doing okay, he had light burns on hands and ankles," Haas Team Principle Guenther Steiner told Sky Sports.

The car just took off to the right (It's the very bottom of the screen, 2nd car up, don't get distracted by the car going throwing sparks or the one taking off on the right taking the long way.

Saw it real time. The F2 crash that killed the driver last year didn't look this horrible. He was saved by the Halo. If F1 had not adopted it, and it split the barrier just ahead of the driver, Grosjean would have been decapitated.

Wow. How lucky they adopted HALO.

In one video it said Grosjean didn't like the system, but it obviously saved his life.

Amazing that he emerged from that with "light burns on his hands and ankle."

Which I'm guessing is the gap in his suit.

Some bad ass protective equipment in use there.

Formula 1 puts on a good public face with their environmentalism.

Running a race on just one tank of gas almost seems like a rule that should have been there all along.

The single fuel load is so they stopped setting pit crew members on fire in massive pit lane incidents. Some of the eras fuels were so intense they burned clear.

They are running tiny 1.6L hybrid power plants though. Mercedes has the best internal combustion thermal efficiency on the planet in their F1 car, superior to even natural gas power plants.

Speaking of F1, the champion Hamilton just tested positive for Covid. It won't effect the series results, he's so far ahead he won it a few races ago, but he will have to wait until next year to beat the rest of Schumacher's records.
