The Bulwark commentator Amanda Carpenter spoke with CNN's Brianna Keilar Thursday about the GOP now being the party of Trump's lies and conspiracy theories: "Mitch McConnel can keep staying silent. I think we give him too much credit when he stays silent. There's like this built in assumption that Republicans are just scared of Donald Trump's base. I think it's something different. I actually think they're okay with it. I think they're down with it. Because when I look at all the escalating threats of violence -- and this is really my bright line -- the threats of violence and the attacks on the democratic system. When you look at something like Charlottesville or the egging on of militia men in Michigan or the fact that people make a hero out vigilantes in Kenosha and you don't say anything for this long -- I have to think you're supportive of it and I would love for Mitch McConnel to go to the camera and prove me otherwise." |
