...In a Friday speech on the US Senate floor, Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut torched Republican colleagues who are supporting the president's so-far failed efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

"Right now, the most serious attempt to overthrow our democracy in the history of our country is underway. Those who are pushing to make Donald Trump President, no matter the outcome of the election, are engaged in a treachery against their nation," Murphy stated.

"You cannot, at the same time, love America and hate democracy," Murphy continued.

Murphy also lambasted "flag-waving Republicans who are trying to invalidate legal votes," because "it is the only way that they can make Donald Trump president again."...

"Democracies are a fragile thing," Murphy said in the speech. He added that the government wasn't "a piece of paper," but existed through democratic norms and practices and that leaders are decided via the will of the people.

"Voters, citizens, not kings or monarchs or oligarchs, decide who governs. It's made possible by a series of decisions we make every day to put the rule of law ahead of our own political power, or the position of our political party," Murphy said....

It's been long-since proven. Trumpites hate democracy because that stands in their way. Secessionists and advocates of martial law aren't Americans. I'd call them toads, but toads can't help being ugly.

"Right now, the most serious attempt to overthrow our democracy..."

As morons like Boaz (and there's millions of 'em) are quick to point out:

"We're not a democracy, we're a republic!"

If you're ignorant enough to support Trump still, you're ignorant to believe that that is a profound point.

If we're not a democracy, why do we keep having elections?

Anyone???

The Trumpite, increasingly open fascist view, is to magnify Donald Trump.

"The Art of the Deal" is about win/lose negotiations, without compromise. The pie is only one sixed and each side wants the whole thing. There is always a 'winner' and a 'loser'. Done wrong, the forceful negotiator often ends up with either nothing, or an enemy, or both. They think they are strong when, in fact, they are weak.

Played right, politics is the art of compromise, and expanding the pie. The application of principled negotiations acknowledges each party's needs, wants, bottom line and desire for respect and to save face. Both sides can come away with their needs met and with face-saving. Sometimes the best of solutions can be had.

Donald Trump talks of being a 'winner' yet it can be assured that he has lost many times while employing his style of negotiations. Trump has taught many politicians to negotiate their ways to failure, and that style of failure is beginning to manifest itself. Those who emulate Trump are in for the sort of loss their exemplar offers them. These people are the ones banging their shoes on a podium, making themselves look the fool.

Stay tuned--it's about to get comical in the halls of Congress...

Senator Murphy is right.

The moral bankruptcy of the GOP in trying to overthrow our democracy has been on full display for all the world to see. So long as the United States exists, historians will note the Republicans extremely shameful role in the farce that has played out over the last six weeks as they have tried to overturn the result of an election which they lost by a landslide simply because they are the sorest losers in American history.

Can you love America but hate Republicans at the same time? Because a corollary seems pretty obvious. Currently you cannot love democracy and the Republicans at the same time.

Republicans only pretend to love America. What they really love are power and money.

What's more American than Money and Power? (And Guns.)

The election process.

These seditionists don't love America as it is, they love the idea of America as an authoritarian dictatorship forever run by Combover Quisling or one of his incompetent, moronic progeny, where brown people are subservient to white people, and only white votes count. They might not all be racists, but they're just fine throwing in with the racists to bring down this country.

Senator Chris Murphy is a hero. He shouldn't have to be. But he is. A man of principle in a party of poltroons. He stepped away from the criminality of his colleagues, and stood up.

I hope he runs as a Dem. and wins.

But Dems have shown for many years, and with ample evidence, that they can hate America and hate Democracy. Of course, it only happens when they lose but it already disproves what this guy is saying. So why post an article that is easily disproven? Reps have been saying Dems hate America for a long time, I guess it was only a matter of time before Dems stole it and started saying the same thing about Reps. At least come up with new material, don't just borrow what the other party has already used to attack you with. It only makes you look incompetent.

The "hate" people keep spewing about Dems hate this and Reps hate that is such a low form of argument that it's no wonder both sides sound like children unless they get their way.

"So why post an article that is easily disproven?"

So when will you? Disprove it.

You "disproved" nothing.

Except that bothsiderism is alive and well and that your head is full of Trumptilian nonsense.

Because there you go again. Spewing that both sider garbage from your keyboard like you love to do.

No. It doesn't. And saying it over and over does not make it true.

Trumptilians love to make up crap that makes them feel good and then say it over and over. Even after it's been debunked over and over.

Of course your can. You can love democracy, but if america isn't a democracy, why can't you hate america?

Repubs suck at basic logic. Shocker.

All repubs have is hate.

Dems are trying to fix things and repubs always try to stop them because their hatred of dems overrides their own self interest.

The Dems, as idiotic as many of them are, have never, ever backed a candidate that's as vile as Trump.

Trump might be the most unprincipled politician in US history. A modern-day Huey Long.
