The Girl Scouts are in a "highly damaging" recruitment war with the Boy Scouts after the latter opened its core services to girls, leading to marketplace confusion and some girls unwittingly joining the Boy Scouts, lawyers for the century-old Girl Scouts organization claim in papers filed in a federal court.

Why not just merge the two, call the merged organization, "The Scouts" and move on with things....

Cause boys/girls are yucky and have cooties!

@#2

My guess would be that the leadership of the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts are less concerned about benefiting the children under their auspices, and more concerned about keeping the power and money of their respective positions.

Because BSA is exclusionary and GSA is inclusive.

This ain't Coke and Pepsi.

How are the Boy Scouts exclusionary if they take girls? Do you even read what you post?

@#5 ... How are the Boy Scouts exclusionary if they take girls? ...

Girls are not the only group that can be excluded.

For starters...

www.nytimes.com Op-Ed

...The Boy Scouts of America has retained the legal right to exclude any youngster who cannot conscientiously swear to love God or "do my duty to God." Last Monday, the Supreme Court declined to review a case in which an agnostic father and son contested exclusion from a Cub Scout pack in Illinois. That left standing a lower-court victory for the Boy Scouts....

Now the Boy Scouts of America arefiling for bankruptcy, like USA Gymnastics and a bunch of Catholic dioceses in the United States before them, and for similar reasons.

Why don't the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts just merge and create the Cub Scouts. :)

My daughters, my wife, and her mother were all Girl Scouts, from Brownie through Senior. My personal inclination would be to keep BSA and GS separate, because obviously girls are not boys. It's about the sweet, sweet money from dues and activities. BSA is corrupted, and should be allowed to expire.

I remain a fool for the coconut and chocolate cookies, whatever they're calling them these days! I always buy a box of GS cookies when I see the little hustlers working the door at Piggly Wiggly, Pick&Save, or Festival!

Destroy the Boy Scouts, and let the Girl Scouts just become the Scouts.

The BSA are bigots.

Just merge the two groups already. A friend in his teenage years spent a week with a French Scout Troop that had guys and girls and he said the biggest difference was the cooking was better though I suspect he sampled more than the girls baked goods....

I asked my wife why a girl would want to be a Boy Scout. She womansplained it to me, which honestly was helpful. Girls scouts are just home ec, if you want to go outdoors you have to join the Boy Scouts. It's two very different programs.

My daughter and her GS troop help landscape Habitat for Humanity houses, among the "girly" things they did. From middle school into high school girls can struggle with identity and peer group issues that are made worse when boys are around. Being in a group of girls, with strong female leadership helped my daughter and her friends grow into confident women.

And if you are wondering, yes, my daughter earned her GS Gold Award...

While Girl Scouts are nicer, friendlier, and more inclusive, they are at their core a money-making empire. (I think South Park Lampooned them).

Their main focus is commercialism. At least the Boy Scouts actually try to develop character and a well-rounded life experience.

Girl Scouts are about the cookies and not much more.
