Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, January 07, 2021

A violent mob of Donald Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 amid the president's final push for a second term in office despite his election loss by more than 7 million votes. Intruders, some of them wearing tactical gear and waving Trump flags, broke windows and trashed offices in a chaotic scene that forced Congress to halt its proceeding to formally certify President-elect Joe Biden's win.

The article lists quite a few possible crimes.

This one I had forgotten about...

...President Trump issued an executive order during the Black Lives Matter protests in June saying that his administration would prosecute to the fullest anyone who did harm to federal property, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. ...

Will The Trump administration follow through, and abide by their own executive order?

And invoke the 25th, to take care of the Insurrectionist-in-Chief.

Federal Charges Over Capitol Riot
www.nbcphiladelphia.com

...Federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., have begun filing federal criminal charges stemming from Wednesday's riot on the U.S. Capitol, according to NBC News' Pete Williams.

At least two people have been charged so far.

Mark Leffingwell is charged with trespass, assaulting a federal law enforcement officer, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Leffingwell is accused of trying to push past a U.S. Capitol police officer, punching the officer repeatedly with a closed fist, according to charging documents.

Christopher Alberts is charged with carrying a handgun and ammunition on U.S. Capitol grounds. ...

Charges in Capitol Riot Include Man With 11 Molotov Cocktails
www.bloomberg.com

...The U.S. charged 55 people with crimes stemming from the siege of the U.S. Capitol perpetrated by a pro-Trump mob Wednesday, including a man who was arrested near the building with a semi automatic rifle and 11 Molotov cocktails, the Justice Department said.

The other cases include charges of unlawful entry and assault, Michael Sherwin, the acting U.S. attorney in the District of Columbia, said at a news conference Thursday.

More charges are expected in the coming weeks. "That's a good start, but in no regard is this the end," Sherwin said....

If Trump is not removed by the 25th Amendment provisions he will pardon each and every person involved in yesterday's insurrection if given enough time and opportunity.

And there are no "state" charges to fall back on because all the crimes happened on federal property not located in any state.

" They are trying to convince Pence, who is really pissed, to get the Cabinet, or what's left of it, to start the 25th Amendment process."

Even if Pence had the guts to start the process he doesn't have the guts to follow through to completion. That would mean defending the move before Congress after Trump files his objection. That would forever put a target on his back, which he probably does already, and his family's backs. Like I said earlier, yesterday's events demonstrated there are plenty of people out there ready for an excuse to murder Trump's enemies.

Just to clear things up a bit:
There doesn't have to be a quorum.

A quorum is the minimum number of people required to convene a meeting. There is no quorum requirement in the 25th Amendment.

"So maybe you should explain your "law enforcement will roll over in front of left-wing rioters" in the context of what is said in that article?"

In Portland, the DA elected not to prosecute the vast majority of cases-about 66% of them.

"The protesters are angry ... and deeply frustrated with what they perceive to be structural inequities in our basic social fabric, and this frustration can escalate to levels that violate the law," Schmidt said. "This policy acknowledges that centuries of disparate treatment of our black and brown communities have left deep wounds and that the healing process will not be easy or quick."

The policy drops charges against people who were arrested for interfering with a peace officer or parole and probation officer, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, escape, harassment and riot -- unless they were accompanied by some other charge of physical violence or property damage."

I wonder if FEDGOV will chart a similar path with these right wing protesters who appear to be equally outraged as what they see as the lack of fair play? And this is important, because in both cases, the outrage is subjective. So do prosecutors take into account how an individual perceives a situation when determining whether or not they be prosecuted? So if they really thought the election had been stolen, then their anger and violence is then justified, and should be taken into account by the prosecutor?

I've been clear from the start. I have no tolerance for rioters, left or right. As far as I'm concerned, and I hope this is the case, the pipe hitters and their domestic counterparts have started some sort of COINTELPRO-type effort with all these communities. Just like MyChrystal did in Iraq, you map out the terrorist networks, and then dismantle them.

Where I see the friction emerging, is that activists on both left and right will argue that the violent types were a small majority that overshadowed the activities of otherwise peaceful protesters. Which is the argument you would want to make if you wanted to continue to conceal the violent activities of those with whom you shared a common goal.

It's just another instance in an ongoing continuum where one event feeds another.

"Fffk off with your support for the terrorists who attacked the capitol building yesterday."

Support?

YGBFSM.

I think they should be crushed. The difference between you and I is the belief that these rioters should be crushed, while barely acknowledging the rioters is Portland-presumably because you agree with them.

That makes you as undemocratic as the rioters who stormed the Capitol.

"There were good people on both sides."

Or...maybe...there are just bad people on both sides.

That's probably more likely.

"Storming the government because they are executing citizens without trial is not the same as storming the government because a lifelong con man told you a bunch of lies about an election being stolen from him."

They were storming the government because the Democratic party has sought to work with foreign governments to undo a democratic election as a means of implimenting socialism and cultural Marxism in the United States.

...it's as much -------- as the notion that the government is executing citizens without trial. None of it passes the smell test objectively.

If they set foot in the house or senate chamber send them to the gas chamber.

The rest should be charged with attempting to assasinate Mike Pence.

Wrong again stupid.

This event wasn't fed by BLM. Stop trying to blame your party's crimes on the other party.

This even was fed by TRUMP, your party's stupid cult leader. Everyone with a brain saw this coming. Your party could have removed him and prevented all of this plus hundreds of thousands of covid deaths if they had any ethics, morals, or patriotism.

No stupid. One of those is a fantasy, one of them is a fact.

This is the essential problem with the modern republican - they think their delusional fantasies deserve equal consideration with real issues.

If I the FBI can't find these people we can hunt them down ourselves.

I want that shaman put away for 20 years. Same with the guy who chased the lone guard up the steps. 20 years. Same for the idiots who took selfies in senatorial and congressional offices. 20 years. Anyone who carried a confederate flag into the capitol, 20 years. And anyone who entered the capitol illegally. 10 years minimum. That would be justice. And it will keep them off the streets for a while anyway.

Find them and tell everybody where they are. Until they are arrested and charged.

Re 96

Yup. I will let the FBI do their job. But we can help. If you recognize any of these terrorists go to the web page and let them know where to find the rest of these creepy crawlies.

Re 97

#4 and #7 would apply to me. Good thing I didn't go.

I would be dead or in the hospital anyway. I would have gone straight for the shaman or that creepy crawlie with confederate flag.

So it is probably for the best!

No, you are only "retired" if you are placed on the "retired rolls", which means you did 20+ years of service or you are disability/medically retired.

If you finished your term of service, you are just honorably discharged and a veteran.

Execution implies an intentional act. If you think that Breonna Taylor was executed, you're as delusional as the idiots who think that the election was stolen by Democrats.

Actually, you're delusional anyway...this would just be par for the course.

"I want some of whatever it is you're smoking. Or maybe not, since it obviously causes paranoia."

Oh, I don't believe that. I'm just pointing out that both ideas are objectively silly, whether you think that the government is executing people, or that the Dems are trying to create a socialist country.

"If they set foot in the house or senate chamber send them to the gas chamber."

Does the US have a gas chamber?

Maybe the better answer is to establish a special paramilitary force assigned to find these people, at which point they could be summarily executed. There are several great historical examples that could be used as a template

Then, at least, you don't have to spend the money to build a gas chamber. Unless the intent was to use them on undesirables in the future.

I think that the vast majority of people would agree with you in totem...only you would be the one with the delusional fantasies that you think felt were on par with real issues.

This is why you're really no different than they are.

Is 20 years a random number, or is there something behind it?

And is it just because it was the Capital, or should anyone who storms a government building get 20 years?

Madbomber you must be pretty stupid if you cannot see the difference between people protesting police violence and people protesting by rioting an outcome of an election. "Please mister officer do not kill me for jaywalking" versus "we're gonna burn that place down and hang all democrats and RINO'S if they do not do as we say".
