It's all fun and games until your coup attempt fails and you're held responsible for your actions.

Someone is lying and I suspect it is Sund's superiors. This coup attempt had many more people supporting it than we know right now but every last one of them should be investigated and their actions or inactions should be revealed to the nation. If they withheld assistance after it was requested they should lose their position and hopefully face criminal charges.

Isn't this the same argument the Issa and the Republicans made about Benghazi, that when the people on the ground asked for help, no one responded.

There's going to be an investigation...

They were denied aircraft, troops and intelligence because that operation was already underway.

What do you imagine uses mortars so accurately? Goat-herders?

I've yet to read that the DC Mayor's request to the Parks Dept to cancel the permits for Trump Rioters has been acted on.

This seems like the first thing they should be doing. I did read that the Nat Guard in DC now is not carrying firearms at this time, either.

If I were in charge, we would have armed national Guardsman and they would be equipped to handle the worst assault that the right wing crazies are capable of, and believe me, they are capable of far more than we think they are. Get ready for WWIII. Jan. 20 is going to be a warzone. THese folks won't be firing rubber bullets.

No it isn't in any way similar. Issa was just a political hack trying to score points against Hillary Clinton. The situation during the attacks on the Capital last week was not some town in another country, it was the capital of the United States. Comparing those two events is beyond ridiculous.

I was trying to be ironic. It was also an attempt to point out the hypocrisy that we're now seeing when Republicans refuse to accept the need to take a serious look into what led to this and who's responsible.

National Guardsmen protecting Capitol now armed with lethal weapons

The Pentagon has approved National Guardsmen protecting the U.S. Capitol to carry lethal weapons in the days leading up to the inauguration, as law enforcement continues to receive information about credible threats of violence from armed militia groups, two Guard spokespeople confirmed.

As of 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the Guardsmen who are responsible for security around the Capitol building complex were armed with lethal weapons, US Air National Guard Capt. Chelfi Johnson told POLITICO. The New York Times was the first to report the news.

Senior Army official Lt. Gen. Walter E. Piatt, director of the Army Staff, said on the call (requesting National Guard troops) he couldn't recommend that Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy authorize deployment, Sund and others on the call told the Post. Piatt reportedly said, "I don't like the visual of the National Guard standing a police line with the Capitol in the background," the Post reported.

It would be more than three hours before any National Guard troops arrived, well after the damage at the Capitol had been done.
