Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, January 12, 2021

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, on an ongoing call with House Democrats, called the idea of censuring President Trump "an abdication" and made clear it is not an option she's willing to consider, according to a person on the call.

Republicans put party before country by not convicting the first time.

Now that they're all wearing egg masks several feet thick they're putting personal interests over country by refusing to impeach this time as doing so is the ultimate admission that they were wrong the first time and have been supporting and enabling an anti-American POS POTUS for four years.

Pelosi is absolutely right, we can't "censure" people who violently take over our Capital building. No, they need to be tried in courts and punished. If they return to wreak more havoc then they are basically declaring war on the United States and accepting the consequences of that. I am not willing to allow a mob to govern over me, if they insist on doing so then bullets will convince them otherwise.

Terrorism: violence, or the threat of violence, used and directed in pursuit of, or in service of, a political aim.

Donald Trump organized and promoted a terror attack on the US Capitol. Alex Jones helped finance the event and led them to the Capitol. GOP Attorney Generals used robocalls to encourage supporters to participate on the attack on the Capitol. Most GOP Members of the House and a portion of GOP Senators fueled the false conspiracy theory that our elections are rigged that Trump has spread since before he won the Presidency in 2016 that served as the motivation for the attack.

Bottom line, MAGAts committed an act of terrorism that was orchestrated by Donald Trump. No lies detected from Nancy.

Capitol assault a more sinister attack than first appeared
apnews.com

...Under battle flags bearing Donald Trump's name, the Capitol's attackers pinned a bloodied police officer in a doorway, his twisted face and screams captured on video. They mortally wounded another officer with a blunt weapon and body-slammed a third over a railing into the crowd.

"Hang Mike Pence!" the insurrectionists chanted as they pressed inside, beating police with pipes. They demanded House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's whereabouts, too. They hunted any and all lawmakers: "Where are they?" Outside, makeshift gallows stood, complete with sturdy wooden steps and the noose. Guns and pipe bombs had been stashed in the vicinity.

Only days later is the extent of the danger from one of the darkest episodes in American democracy coming into focus. The sinister nature of the assault has become evident, betraying the crowd as a force determined to occupy the inner sanctums of Congress and run down leaders " Trump's vice president and the Democratic House speaker among them.

This was not just a collection of Trump supporters with MAGA bling caught up in a wave. ...

#40 | Posted by LampLighter at 2021-01-12 11:50 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

By the time the mob got to the Capitol steps it was too late for the cops to control them:

Systematic failures
The French police official detailed multiple lapses they believe were systematic:

Large crowds of protesters needed to be managed far earlier by the police, who instead controlled a scene at the first demonstration Trump addressed, then ignored the crowd as it streamed toward the Capitol.

"It should have been surrounded, managed, and directed immediately, and that pressure never released."

Because the crowd was not managed and directed, the official said, the protesters were able to congregate unimpeded around the Capitol, where the next major failure took place.

"It is unthinkable there was not a strong police cordon on the outskirts of the complex. Fences and barricades are useless without strong police enforcement. This is when you start making arrests, targeting key people that appear violent, anyone who attacks an officer, anyone who breaches the barricade. You have to show that crossing the line will fail and end in arrest."

"I cannot believe the failure to establish a proper cordon was a mistake. These are very skilled police officials, but they are federal, and that means they ultimately report to the president. This needs to be investigated."

"When the crowd reached the steps of the building, the situation was over. The police are there to protect the building from terrorist attacks and crime, not a battalion of infantry. That had to be managed from hundreds of meters away unless the police were willing to completely open fire, and I can respect why they were not."

House Democrats Briefed On 3 Terrifying Plots To Overthrow Government
www.huffpost.com

...One plot includes surrounding the Capitol and murdering Democrats to allow Republicans to take control of the government.

Capitol Police briefed Democrats on Monday night about three more potentially gruesome demonstrations planned in the coming days, with one plot to encircle the U.S. Capitol and assassinate Democrats and some Republicans.

On a private call Monday night, new leaders of the Capitol Police told House Democrats they were closely monitoring three separate plans that could pose serious threats to members of Congress as Washington prepares for Democrat Joe Biden's presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.

The first is a demonstration billed as the "largest armed protest ever to take place on American soil."

Another is a protest in honor of Ashli Babbitt, the woman killed while trying to climb into the Speaker's Lobby during Wednesday's pro-Trump siege of the Capitol.

And another demonstration, which three members said was by far the most concerning plot, would involve insurrectionists forming a perimeter around the Capitol, the White House and the Supreme Court, and then blocking Democrats from entering the Capitol perhaps even killing them so that Republicans could take control of the government.

Here's How the Capitol Mob Violated Federal Criminal Law
www.lawfareblog.com

...Yesterday's violent storming of the Capitol building raises questions about President Trump's fitness to see out the remaining two weeks of his term; about whether large parts of the Republican Party remain committed to even basic norms of democratic government; and about how the country should move on from this brazen attack on the peaceful transition of power.

But it also raises a host of criminal law enforcement issues. Hundreds of people participated in what Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell condemned as a "failed insurrection[.]" And, as Bobby Chesney described on the National Security Law Podcast, the events included a "cartoonish avalanche of crimes."...

Criminal law is highly fact-specific, and there are still many unanswered questions about what precisely occurred yesterday in any given incident and who had what level of involvement in planning or executing the acts that made up the mob violence. But here is a rough list of plausible factual predicates for any follow-on prosecution under federal law: ...

What compromise are you looking for? Because I feel like unless you get 100% of what you want. You're not going to be happy.

Also. Not all opinions are created equal or deserve any consideration.

Opinions rooted in intolerance, bigotry, hate and ignorance have no room at the table. They aren't welcome and I have zero interest in allowing such thoughts room to spread and grow.

I'd add greed to that list. But this is a capitalist nation and greed is at the heart of capitalism.

Here's what we need to see more of from sane GOPers:

Denver Riggleman @RepRiggleman (Former VA05 Rep)

My thoughts on why impeachment is necessary

GOP colleagues have stated that impeachment is divisive and could cause further violence. I disagree. Allowing President Trump to walk away, validates messianic conspiracy theories and disinformation. It could me more dangerous.

QAnon adherents and those who believe "Stop the Steal" conspiracies view this as a vanguard movement of apocalyptic and revolutionary ideology. QAnon is "syncretic" now including fantasies pushed by Flynn, Powell etc--that deep state evil doers are afraid of evidence against them

A significant part of this conspiracy envisions an all-at-once insurrection (signified by the code: WWG1WGA:" where we go one we go all") against pedophilic and satanic lawmakers. President Trump, in this fantasy, stands as the man ordained to stop them.

If there is no accountability for POTUS & allies pushing radical conspiracies, those who believe Trump is the ordained protector will believe the conspiracies true, that he had so much evidence against evil-doers they would not convict him. Future violence could be encouraged

Impeaching President Trump for his grotesque use of power and language to incite riots, based on coordinated disinformation, will aid in dousing the fire of conspiracy grifters and to show QAnon believers that WWG1WGA was a horrific lie. Impeachment destroys the mirage.

Lastly, responsibility of leadership is to identify the facts and act in good faith, even when hard. Jan 6th proved that disinformation could destroy our Republic. White Nationalists were there! Our adversaries know that also. Let's stop disinfo from inside & outside. Impeach

I understand your point, these types of opinions are thriving in the government, both local and federal.

It's why terrorists stormed the capitol building in DC last week, and the capitol building in Michigan a few months ago. They were inspired by Trump and Trumpers in government.

But, my comment was directly responding to, "both sides must see the other as ... entitled to their opinions and that those opinions do not need to be changed, but respected."

I completely disagree, "Opinions rooted in intolerance, bigotry, hate and ignorance" don't deserve respect or acceptance. They need to be changed. It's dangerous to allow hate and ignorance to spread.

you start with a false premise that I don't believe to be true.

try again

#64 | Posted by eberly

If you don't beleive it to be true, why is it so hard for you to day repubs are the worse party, and so easy for you play WHATABOUT THE DEMS! when repubs do something indefensible?

"why is it so hard for you to day repubs are the worse party,"

not sure what you're smoking but I criticize the repub party much more than the dem party.

Also on a national level, I vote for the dem party more than the repub party.

I think you and host of others here, out of an ability to make an argument, throw out the term "whataboutism" with no merit.

If you criticize the cops for their behavior when apprehending a suspect and they go to far...are you excusing the criminal's act?

Of course not.

I argue finer points at times and that might confuse folks like you to believe I'm arguing a larger picture that the the GOP and the dem party are equally bad overall.

But you never see me actually do that.

I will criticize the GOP

I will criticize the Democratic Party.

It never means they are equal.

I don't see the point in working to find equality between them.

There political reality in national politics and politicians have to pander to voters to get elected. It's plain and simple. No side is immune to it. Is 1 side worse? Yes.
Does that mean the other side never does it? Of course not.

Now....I'm done explaining this to you.

You understand?

You understand?

#67 | Posted by eberly

Yeah I understand this post will age like milk, and the next time repubs do something indefensible you'll once again try to pretend dems made them do it or pretend dems did something just as bad.

Your record is well established. One post does not undo hundreds of others.

-Yeah I understand this post will age like milk, and the next time repubs do something indefensible you'll once again try to pretend dems made them do it or pretend dems did something just as bad.

Well, I'm sure everyone here is counting on you accusing me of exactly that even if I don't post at all.

#69 | Posted by eberly at 2021-01-12 03:01 PM | Reply

Eberly, you are either the worst communicator of all time or lying. My vote is on lying. I've never read a single consistent train of thought from you. You get all defensive, and foul mouthed, claim to be misunderstood, but never make a coherent post. Do you want to be incoherent?

It's all to protect yourself. From being Understood. That's the last thing you seem to want. Why?

My guess is because like the Donald, you can't stand to be wrong. So if you're never clear you can always claim to be too deep,or too suble, or too whatever, to be refuted.

Makes you look, dumb, and afraid, not a good look at all. You might try being understandable to others in your writing.

If you want real dialogue, which I doubt.

I think you just want to feel above the fray,it's not the first time I've felt this way.

You've been a whiny snowflake afraid to engage clearly from the jump.

Back to the foul mouth again. You've been figgered out fella. You want to seem to engage, not really engage, that's too scary, you might say something dumb. Your whole fear of looking dumb is dumb.

I want real dialogue, not the sham you present.

Always trying to be edgy, and unassailable,it makes your posts almost as banal as Boaz's, he at least wants to be understood,he at least is trying to make a real argument not always covering his ass.

Even Gracie has more than you. That's sad.

then go talk to gracie and Boaz and plonk me, Trumpvoter.

Please?

There should be ZERO compromise with fascists. Any compromise with fascists is viewed as weakness. There goal is to move the needle on what is acceptable, in incremental steps, until only their position rules.

No negotiation, total victory.

#74 | Posted by truthhurts at 2021-01-12 03:34 PM | Reply

I never plonk. It's weakness. It's giving in to the frustration of other people's tiresome views instead of engaging. That's your MO not mine.

I will try to be civil. I will try to be open to your badly worded arguments.

I will never plonk anyone.

#75 | Posted by Effeteposer at 2021-01-12 03:46 PM | Reply

Plonking isn't about weakness.

Your problem is that plonking me doesn't do anything for you. It just cuts you out of conversations.

I don't engage you....it's always you coming after me which is how all your dialogue works here.

nobody engages you.

You'd be all alone.

If I plonk you....I wouldn't miss a beat...while at the same time, you'll just be posting with no responses from anyone.

THAT's why you don't plonk.

#76 | Posted by eberly at 2021-01-12 03:53 PM | Reply

Maybe, but I know my own motivations better than you do. I don't plonk because it is like refusing to see reality because the truth is too painful. The dialogue goes on, whether I'm engaged by others, or as you say, not.

I don't want to miss any of it. Even your foul mouthed invective. By the way,why do you always, predictably, become unhinged and abusive when you feel like the argument is not going your way?

It's rather infantile,you know.

"Jesus Wept"

No, Angrydad wept.

Oh Beverly.

Jesus did weep. Then.

But today I would think it would be more along the lines "you reap what you sow".

Go find your retarded half-sister, speaksoftly, and go fingerbang her in the closet, Trumpvoter.

You're not interested in dialogue with me anymore than speak is.

You just want to troll, sniff my ass, and bite my ankles (enough metaphors?)

post on topic or move on.

#71 | Posted by eberly

You're not the dumbest poster here, but you are the most predictable.

Step 1 - Defend the latest republican disaster by pretending dems are just as bad or dems made them do it.
Step 2 - when your argument gets destroyed by facts, start calling names and throwing insults
step 3 - when youre exposed as having no argument, start saying everyone else is too emotional, implying that youre intellectually superior and above everyone else, and too much of an enigma to be comprehended by mere mortals.

Return to step 1.

You sound like a Bolshevik.

BTW, what exactly is a fascist? And do we pursue total victory over all extremists who pose a threat to society, or is it just the "fascists?"

Do you consider me a "fascist?"

In the early 90s you could trigger this crowd to riot with classic southern folk wrestling shows. It just takes a good heel character and gimmick like the Ether Bunny knockout.

"There political reality in national politics and politicians have to pander to voters to get elected."

So why don't Democrats pander to QAnon, Eberly?

Do Republicans and Democrats exist in a different political reality?

#85 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-01-13 12:49 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

"Yup,fascist,to the bone."

So...by fascist, you're really referring to anyone who is not antifa or does not share their vision, and automatically become a target of antifa. Is that correct? Because that pretty much describes the people who stormed the Capitol as well.

And if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say I'm as much a target for that crowd as I would be for the far left.

I was kidding dude. You're ok with me,a little too obsessed about how bad socialism is but otherwise a seemingly good dude. I respect your opinions mostly, except about socialism and covid, on those subjects you're a dumbass.

I mean that in the best possible way.
