President Donald Trump on Tuesday defended as "totally appropriate" the speech he made at a rally last week that was followed by his supporters launching a deadly siege of the Capitol. In his first live remarks since the violence last Wednesday, Trump deflected blame and sought to highlight other politicians' comments last summer about protests against racial injustice and police brutality.

Of course he thought it is "totally appropriate."

It had the effect he wanted it to have.

Unfortunately, his attempted coup failed.

Whoa... poor wording (very poor wording) on my part...

"Unfortunately, his attempted coup failed."

- should have been -

"Unfortunately for the goal of his speech, the coup attempt failed."

(in no manner did I mean that I thought it was unfortunate the coup attempt failed.)
