Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

in order to reach the border, contractors have blasted roads into terrain that was once rugged and impassable. Some areas still have no barrier, with work likely to stop when Trump leaves office. But the roads will remain. It's hard not to conclude that these parts of the US-Mexico border are easier to penetrate now than in 2016.

The Border Patrol union didn't think building more wall was such a good idea in the first place...

An excerpt from the Border Patrol Union webpage that was deleted:

  • Walls and fences are temporary solutions that focus on the symptom (illegal immigration) rather than the problem (employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens).

  • Walls and fences are only a speed bump. People who want to come to the United States to obtain employment will continue to go over, under, and around the walls and fences that are constructed.

  • Walls and fences will undoubtedly result in an increase in fraudulent documents and smuggling through the Ports of Entry.

  • Walls and fences do not solve the issue of people entering the country legally and staying beyond the date they are required to leave the country, a problem which will undoubtedly increase as more walls and fences are constructed.

  • If you cannot convince the Border Patrol employees that building more border wall is a good idea, then you have to wonder just how much is the project more of a symbol being erected for a narcissistic President than anything else?

Building or reinforcing the wall in some places was a good idea. But I knew from the beginning it was going down the route of this GWBush-level incompetence and stupidity. But yet Trumpers still argue he was/is better for border security, when all he was doing was right-virtue signaling at the taxpayers' expense.

@#2 ... Building or reinforcing the wall in some places was a good idea. ...

I'd say more that rebuilding or replacing weak areas was a good idea, as I am not convinced that the "new wall" areas (i.e., areas that actually got new wall where none had been) were the best use of funds and resources..

But in general, I'd agree with what I quoted.

For $89 you can buy a battery powered saw that will cut slats in the new wall in just a few minutes. Coyotes then cover the saw cuts with putty to make them look like weld repairs. There's an old saying on the border: Show me a 20 foot wall and I'll show you a 21 foot ladder.
