A victim of his own ignorance. I guess the thought of prison and losing that mcmansion he lived in scared him so bad he couldn't wait until the 20th to see if Trump gives them all a mass pardon.

He thought he would be petted for snarling but in the end he was kicked with the promise of being kicked some more.

At the end he is just another dead dog.

He died in his basement.
He had two semi-automatic SKS rifles.
(Soviet semi-automatic carbine chambered for the 7.6239mm round)
He was a father.
"He loved cutting his own grass."
His wife said there was "blood everywhere."

Like his cult leader attempted to destroy his own government.

If you are going to shoot yourself please do others the favor of putting up sheeting and drop cloth or better yet, find a secluded outdoor location and notify law enforcement where they will find your body so you don't leave a mess for your family and don't unnecessarily traumatize others.

This just slays me.

These people live out in the open and couldn't have been ignorant to the fact they would be identified and found.

WTF? did they think this wasn't a crime?

Did this moron think he would just return home and go about his business after doing that like he had gone fishing over the weekend?

Why would anybody shoot themselves in the time of endless opiate availability?
I'd rather o.d. then take a blast to the chest but thats just me.

Sad that people get caught up in this movement trying to give thier lives relevance..instead he is shamed to death.

I don't think they were operating with the rational part of their brain when things crossed the line.
They were high on what it felt like to be part of a gang whipped into a frenzy.

They thought they would carry Trump triumphantly on their shoulders into a second term.

Do you remember when Bush called on Iraqis to rise up against Saddam Hussein, after we didn't take him out in Desert Storm?

And so they launched an uprising, but then the President didn't help, and they were crushed.

I hate to say it but Michigan holds some blame.

Those idiots that stormed the capital in Lansing should have been gunned down like they were stealing a television set at Walmart during Hurricane Katrina.

Set the precedent.

"I don't think they were operating with the rational part of their brain when things crossed the line."

Neither side does. The more important, and ultimately the most impactful, is how our leaders respond to it. And given that Dems fully supported and condoned BLM's looting, rioting, and killing (which I still try to believe it is being done irrationally by people with a very narrow view of reality but Dems keep saying it should be done at all costs), the country's response to this is already compromised.

Apparently.

Just goes to show that that streak of anti-intellectualism and ignorance in America is bearing fruit.

An educated, seemingly smart man fell victim to all this and didn't even consider the consequences of his actions.

I bet he thought he would be welcomed home as a conquering hero with a parade and finally everyone would respect him.

Afterwards he realized the consequences of what he did and had a mental breakdown. Having a gun handy made that fatal.

This is why I support gun ownership, it is cheaper than prison.

I hope he left his family with something with which they can rebuild. Probably no death benefit from insurance, stigmatized real estate will be devalued in the market if they try to sell, family reputation soiled.

He must have thought it would be fun and games to go up to DC, make some noise, see his political hero, and then come back home fired up for--what? Instead, he was facing federal charges, perhaps at risk of losing his job (if not already fired), had embarrassed the wife and kids, and not changed a thing.

This guy's life, even the way he was living it at the end, had value, and he wasted it...

Horrible. I take no glee in a man's suicide.

Still, I can't understand how anyone could make decisions to participate in an insurrection and not wonder about possible repercussions. I think much of this mindset is the result of living in a self-imposed information bubble. No matter where you land in the political or cultural spectrum, there are going to be people who don't share your views. You can still disagree with those people, and you can prefer to be with like-minded people, but you do yourself a disservice not to expose yourself to the reality that exists outside your echo chamber.

He saw himself as a hero. He saw himself being rewarded. Reality by her nature is a bitch. When his fantasies were ruined he killed himself. Sorrow for his loved ones, not for him.

I think we might see one or two Republican lawmakers commit suicide before this is over.

It has been obvious for many years now that mentally ill people, both those in favor of Trump and those who oppose him, seem unduly vulnerable to psychotic reactions to Trump's provocative behavior. Nobody should ever be triggered into psychosis by the outrageous behavior of an American leader. And yet that is what we see happening all around us.

reading that Intercept article, the thought kept popping into my head. What, seriously, are they so afraid of about a democratic presidency? to the point that they will tear down this country? the first thing that comes to mind is the protest from last summer and the attendant violence. Were Obama's presidential years really that bad to lead to a civil war?

I think Hummer's problem is his vocabulary is limited to about 100 words.

Liberals, Libs, Dems, hypocrisy, hate, BLM, riot, kill, burn, neither, both, sides, and a few others to tie them together in different patterns.

That is the conservative mindset at work. Facts, science, history, reality doesn't dissuade them from believing whatever lies they want to believe whether it is in regard to tax policy, covid, climate change, police brutality, elections, you name it.
Just take a look at the stuff humtake, boaz, madbomber and plenty of others on this site post. So many posts that are completely detached from reality.

This is America. It's all about race. It's always all about race. For 400 years!

BTW: The entire point of the White Supremacy game (from the beginning) is to keep poor whites from finding common cause with blacks against the plutocrats.

If they stepped across the threshold of the capitol then arrest them.

They can do performance prison art. The prisons need more artists to bring culture to the incarcerated.
