"With no armed march' by extremists, D.C. residents navigate a fortress and fear."

So ... what has to happen before we decide it's safe to send the National Guard home and go back to "security" the way it used to be? Who is waiting out whom here?

I said this in another post: Place armed Marines with fixed bayonets at all entry and exit points. Since the Capitol Cops can't seem to do the job, and actually somewhat fraternized with the invaders on the Senate floor calling them "brother."

Its not safe. FBI screening Guard for traitors.

Better vet those Marines first. The Corp has a real problem with white supremacists.

Good point. But I can imagine seeing a Marine in his dress blues keeping a rifle with bayonet affixed at order arms would be more intimidating than the Capitol Cops. And it would make any would-be assailant think twice about storming the Capitol building.

I can't remember who said it, but it goes something like this:

When standing at the stake, it doesn't hurt where you thought it would.

Let the FBI and other governmental agencies round up all of the domestic terrorists, and the few that still try ----, let them die trying.

Make it so the 2 alternatives are, prison or death.

Just make examples. You'd be surprised how fast things quiet down.

Fresno, that doesn't sound like the white answer.

Again we won't "deal" with them. Leaving it to our children.

It would be nice if we could settle DC statehood. At least then there would be an elected Governor who is in charge and a clear chain of command, instead of a city-like entity that doesnt even control it's own budget. Assuming we cant settle statehood for DC (or Guam or Puerto Rico or Samoa) because it would create impossible electoral math for Republicans, then carve out some of sort of military enclave that is secured like any embassy, armed Marines trained for that purpose.

It is pretty sad it has come to this.

The impossible pipe dream is to move the whole show. Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska. Middle of nowhere soybean field. Physically separate the government from K street, whiteshoe law firms and corporate headquarters. Bland office buildings to do government work, bland apartments and a place go get a decent sandwich. Nothing else.

You do understand that the cart follows the horse, right?

They use Zoom too. Distance isn't much of a thing anymore.
