Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, January 26, 2021

The commander of the D.C. National Guard said the Pentagon restricted his authority ahead of the riot at the U.S. Capitol, requiring higher-level sign-off to respond that cost time as the events that day spiraled out of control.

... restricted his authority ahead of the riot ...
[emphasis mine]

Why restrict his authority before the January 6 riot occurred? Did the Pentagon know of what was going to happen? If so, why restrict his authority to respond? Did the Pentagon make the decision by themselves, or were they told to do so?

Apparently his authority was restricted after criticism of the Nat Guard after their response to racial justice protests in the summer... or at least that is the excuse given.

Capitol Police apologizes, admits advanced intel showed Congress was target before insurrection. U.S. Capitol Police apologized to Congress Tuesday for failing to meet its own standards to immediately secure the Capitol building "in the face of a terrorist attack by tens of thousands of insurrectionists determined to stop the certification of Electoral College votes." "I am here to offer my sincerest apologies on behalf of the Department," acting Chief of Police Yogananda D. Pittman said in a lengthy opening statement during a House Appropriations Committee hearing. "But I am also here to tell you what we are doing to secure the U.S. Capitol from future threats " whether domestic or foreign."

So they admit that Trump didn't "incite" anyone and yet he's still being impeached? They admit they knew about it but didn't let the National Guard help?! They thought there might be "tens of thousands" that attacked the Capitol but weren't prepared to hand a couple hundred? Who was behind this mess?

I bet almost nobody goes to prison, and no political figures even get indicted. Trump will walk untouched.

America never holds powerful figures accountable,to do so would open a Pandora's box of recriminations that could have domestic and international implications that would be embarrassing at best and very dangerous in the worst case. We suck.We always let the bigger crook walk, it's who we are as a nation, exploitative, aggressive, unaccountable, militaristic, self centered to the core.

GRACIE -

He's being impeached on a number of offenses, including an attempt to ---- with the DOJ that would (somehow) lead to overturning the GA election, as well as an attempt to strongarm GA election officials over numerous phone calls, begging AND threatening them to find him 11,700 votes.

Are you ignoring the culmination of behavior that justifies impeachment? Or are you just hung up on the speech at his rally?

There is evidence that the Pentagon added more restrictions at the last minute:

Memos obtained by The Post show how tightly the Pentagon restricted [Guard commander] Walker ahead of the events.

In a Jan. 5 memo, the Army secretary, who is Walker's direct superior in the chain of command, prohibited him from deploying the quick reaction force composed of 40 guardsmen on his own and said any rollout of that standby group would first require a "concept of operation," an exceptional requirement given that the force is supposed to respond to emergencies.

McCarthy, the Army secretary, was also restricted by his superior, the acting defense secretary. In a Jan. 4 memo, McCarthy was prohibited from deploying D.C. Guard members with weapons, helmets, body armor or riot control agents without defense secretary approval. McCarthy retained the power to deploy the quick reaction force "only as a last resort."

So, a day before the attack, the Pentagon took away the only other means the DC NG had of responding to a crisis? This isn't normal, but more and more like part of a plan hatched in the WH. The Pentagon answers only to the president.

She is giving direction to the insurgents. This was an attempted assassination attempt and attempted coup. It should not need explaining that the fact that it was crowdsourced and livestreamed doesn't change what it was. And who was involved with it.

A fair number of Republican Reps were involved with it, in one way or another. Only takes a few "bad apples," right? Oh look, 45 of 50 in the Senate voted against a trial for President Donald J. TRUMP.

So, I have to ask. No small number of Republicans inhabit these faded yellow pages: Are you blind, do you just not care(!), or do you actually support a mob taking control of Congress to prevent Biden from becoming President.

I genuinely want to understand what Republicans are thinking, in light of current events. I feel like the survival of the Republic is at stake. Boaz is right, we are a Republic. Of course we are also a Democracy, but in either case, storming Congress is an attack on both.

I truly hope Republicans can figure this one out. I want to cheekily encourage Republicans to encourage Trump to launch his Patriot Party, but I fear I may forget typing thoe words. This is not a drill. This is more like the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

1:18 PM Lauren Boebert tweets "The Speaker has been removed from the Chambers."

She admits in her floor speech before the riot that she has constituents in the crowd. Which constituents? We now know she knew some who have been arrested:

Shortly before the siege on the United States' seat of power on Jan. 6, Boebert was one of many Republicans taking a stand in the Capitol against the certification of the electoral college results that found Joe Biden had won the presidential election.

"Madame speaker, I have constituents outside this building right now. I promised my voters to be their voice!" Boebert said, quickly and loudly objecting to the counting of Arizona's electoral college votes, which were upheld in federal court, and ultimately, by Congress itself. "Are we not a government, of, by and for the people? They know that this election was not right, and as their representative, I am sent here to represent them. I will not allow the people to be ignored."

So far the general response has been: Bill Clinton lied about a BJ; he must be impeached. Hillary Clinton's emails and Benghazi meant she wasn't qualified to be POTUS. Donald Trump is the greatest president who ever lived. We must support him at all costs and hope he runs again in 2024.

Scary thought:

When you hear Republicans spread the big lie about "election integrity" and see them vote against the impeachment trial, know that this is them planting the seeds for the next coup attempt.

"I will not allow the people to be ignored."

She is actually saying she does want the people, who voted, to be ignored. She, like many Republicans, pretends to support the will of the people when, in actuality, she supports the will of the mob over the will of the people. I sincerely hope her costituents call her home in the next election, she is an embarrassment to every single voter who supported her.

"she is an embarrassment to every single voter who supported her."

They'd have to have the capacity for embarrassment first. ALL evidence points to the contrary.
