Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, February 03, 2021

Swing state Republican officials, responding to Trump's loss, have insisted that voting is now too easy, and should be made harder. There have now been over 100 new bills introduced putting new restrictions on voting, according to The Brennan Center for Justice.

This is what I mean about Conservatives actually being racist bigots all along.
Now, some might say, this isn't about race, it's just about winning elections.
But when your plan for winning elections hinges on disenfranchising voters along racial lines, then it's about race.

Restricting voting to legal citizens is the way.
To do otherwise is to invite foreign interference. Something that was fought very hard against which resulted in the first impeachment.

Suppress as much as possible then whine when you lose.

That seems to be the way.

If we had a real Supreme Court interested in Justice all of the voter suppression bills would be thrown out. But we don't, we have a SC made up mostly of right wing Catholics. Religious nuts.

@#3 ... Restricting voting to legal citizens is the way. ...

Fmr Pres Trump's DoJ has stated that there was little evidence of voter fraud in the Nov 2020 election.

So why are these bills needed?

Aside from the apparent fact that Republicans think that the more people who vote legally, the less the likelihood of Republicans winning.

For example...

Trump says Republicans would never' be elected again if it was easier to vote (March 2020)
www.theguardian.com

...Donald Trump admitted on Monday that making it easier to vote in America would hurt the Republican party....

The Latest On Republican Efforts To Make It Harder To Vote (Sept 2020)
fivethirtyeight.com

...About a month ago, we laid out five ways that Republicans are making it harder to vote and more generally undermining the electoral process in 2020. We focused on Republicans for two reasons.

First, making it harder to vote is a more controversial and anti-democratic goal than making it easier to vote, as Democrats are aiming to do.

And second, President Trump is playing a central role in these voting wars. Trump has publicly said that he is opposed to efforts in many states to make absentee voting and voting by mail (the two are functionally the same thing) available to virtually anyone who wants to vote that way. He has also suggested that higher overall voter turnout would make it harder for Republicans to win elections.

Over the last month, with the election approaching, Republican officials -- from county-level election administrators to the president himself -- have in some ways escalated their use of these tactics. So here's an update on those efforts to complicate the voting process and oppose moves that would make it easier. ...

"legal citizen" ... Sounds a bit redundant. And is also a cop out as usual. Everyone is legal. There is no such thing as an illegal person.

And Becoming a citizen is the problem. The problem Trumpy or his hateful supporters can't deal without their racist heads exploding.

"Fought hard against"

Not by Trumptilians. Or you as I recall. Why the change of heart? Why are you suddenly concerned with "inviting foreign interference"? Then Foreigners interfering was just a Dem hoax. Remember?

Trumpy and his Trumptilians have made it clear that inviting or even accepting foreign interference in our elections is NOT an impeachable offense ... if it helps Trumpy.

So GFY Trumptilian hypocrite. You have no moral standing to judge anyone anyway.

So, I guess since DR just can't be objective at all, the only way to respond to articles like this that can make them constructive are:

Since you see this as being a bad thing, what are your plans to ensure Dems stop suppressing votes?

If your answer is "Dems don't suppress votes", then America doesn't need your blindness. If your answer is "Nothing because I like to spread hate.", then America doesn't need your hate. If you have an actual response that helps identify ways to positively change the Dem party so they are better than the Rep party instead of just being hypocrites, then you are exactly what America needs.

Humtake just can't post without pretending both sides are the same when any reasonable person can see states like Georgia where Gov. Kemp actively used his previous office of AG to suppress minority votes and get himself elected Gov. Stacy Abrams worked her ass off during the most last election and got Biden a win and two Democratic Senators too. She didn't do that by trying to suppress anyone's vote, she did it by registering qualified citizens to vote and increased the number of voters in the state. Republicans base their hopes on how many votes they can suppress while Democrats base our hopes on how many qualified voters we can add to the voting population. Humtake can pretend both sides are the same all he wants but it won't make it true no matter how many times he repeats it.

The "For the People Act" (H.1 & S.1) is moving through the House and Senate to prevent states from enacting voter suppression measures and making voting easier. A very comprehensive bill that covers everything from automatic voter registration, mail in voting, ballot boxes, and much more:

Mail-in ballots being a bad idea for America has nothing to do with claims of fraud.

Tying them together is a distraction to avoid discussing potential problems with mail-in voting (other than legitimate absentee ballots)

Mail-in ballots are a bad idea and will continually destroy confidence in election results.

Historically they have been riddled with one problem or another although people like to peddle the idea how well they work.

If early voting wasn't an option, then mail-in ballots would have a logical reason for existing.

But we can vote an entire month early which makes mail-in ballots utterly pointless and the supposed defense of claiming the GOP wants to "suppress the vote" total crap.

Thanks!

Snoofy,

"Why?"

If voting results weren't so close to 50/50 so often, then it wouldn't matter.

When we have localities bickering over which votes should or shouldn't be included or excluded, when the races are so close it destroys confidence in the system (and rightfully so).

Early voting with you showing up at the polls, showing your id, and casting your vote eliminates the vast overwhelming majority of problems associated with fair and honest voting.

Anyone who believes having up to a month to vote early is somehow "suppressing the vote" is full of crap.

So long as people like you insist on manipulating the discussion by tying mail-in ballots and early voting together turning it into an all-or-nothing proposition, then republicans will find themselves forced to reject both.

Politicians use that tactic all the time to get what they want.

Democrats need to figure out that it's in everyone's best interest to support early voting and stop pushing for mail-in ballots so that democrats and republicans can find a common ground.

There is no common ground between fact and fiction. Republicans live in fiction, where voter fraud is a problem and mail in ballots aren't trustworthy.

Republicans don't want dems to vote. They can't win on their policies, so their only remaining strategy is blocking access to voting or convincing people that it's not worth it.

"RIDDLED" WITH PROBLEMS? SO PROVE IT. GIVE IS LINKS THAT SHOW THE SCALE OF THIS IMAGINARY PROBLEM IN YOUR MIND. OR ELSE DONT EXPECT US ALL TO FEAR THE SAME IMAGINARY BOOGEYMAN THAT YOURE AFRAID OF.

If they could have, they would have.

Kobach and Trampy tried to prove voter fraud in 2017 and shut down their commission with a whimper because it is just not happening in any significance to change an election.

They will point to one person voting when they shouldn't have as evidence that massive voter fraud exists when it doesn't.

All they have is nutjob conspiracy theories and unfounded lies.

"Millions of illegals voted" should be really easy to find the evidence.

I read the Axios article about the meeting with Bumble Powell and the lunatics in the oval office:

"But Powell, fixing on Trump, continued to elaborate on a fantastical election narrative involving Venezuela, Iran, China and others. She named a county in Georgia where she claimed she could prove that Dominion had illegally flipped the vote.

Herschmann interrupted to point out that Trump had actually won the Georgia county in question: "So your theory is that Dominion intentionally flipped the votes so we could win that county?" "

This is what 74,000,000 people voted for. Quite the indictment of the US education system.

I had this argument with someone on faceboob the other day. Show me the proof. The only answer I got was "Biden didn't have a hundred people at his rallies while Trump had thousands at each one" as the proof. I pointed out that Biden didn't want to have huge super spreader rallies. I said that votes were counted and re-counted by hand and all I got was "Sure you expect the deep state to count them fairly?"

You can't argue with this type of demented line of thought.

The vote is rigged unless Trump wins. Then it is rigged even then too.

If Trump loses it's rigged. Millions of illegals voted. Dominion machines flipped the votes.

The recounts were fraud because of the deep state.

There is no way to win when arguing with lunatics that believe this because no matter what is done, it is all rigged. The FBI, DOJ, DHS, State Governors, State Secy of States, voting machines, postal service, sunshine and cool breezes are all corrupt against Conjob Don.

There comes a point where they are just lost. They are seperated from reality.

Bill's claims, in his mind, are true by definition. . They are axiomatic. No evidence is required. And it is an insult to reason, to his intelligence, and to his integrity to demand he provide proof.

Now that we've established that can we agree to just move on?

I have never waited more than 5 minutes to vote. Hour long line ups are criminal voter suppression.
