Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, February 18, 2021

Sen. Ted Cruz flew to Cancun, Mexico, with his family this week as Texas dealt with a winter storm that left millions without power, Fox News has confirmed. Photographs of Cruz, R-Texas, at an airport began circulating on social media late Wednesday, with people alleging that the senator had left the state for Cancun amid a major crisis.

I'm not at all surprised at all he ran from the cold. I'm surprised he was too stupid not to let people see him run away.

His office has issued the ridiculous story that he was only acting as a "bodyguard" to Heidi and the kids for the flight.

Laughable since Great Valu Wolverine couldn't even stand up to a morbidly obese 70 year old who called his wife ugly.

Ted Cruz isn't going anywhere.

He's the type of politician Texans love.

A fat, worthless, conman who lies to them.

He recently attempted to incite an insurrection.

Pretty sure that will win him some more votes.

Read a r/Conservative Reddit user post:

"What is he supposed to do? Turn the power back on himself?!"

How about lead by example. I mean, he's supposed to be a leader, was elected to lead, yet he takes vacation during a crisis?

Nobody expects him to fix the problem on his own, but he's one of the elected representatives that should be LEADING to develop a fix or to explain how they'll ensure this won't happen again. But, then again, he was two years out from becoming a political leader in Texas when the 2011 report was released, warning Texans to winterize their energy infrastructure or risk this exact scenario. Still, taking off to beach and sun is terrible optics, especially after his criticism of California came back to bite him.

------- coward.

Fester,

On the Subject of Poorly Timed Cancn Vacations . . .

If you ask for, and receive, the privilege and the power that comes with representing your state in the U.S. Senate, you accept along with it the public's scrutiny of when you take vacations. And even if Ted Cruz can't single-handedly get the power back on by himself, crises such as this one in Texas are the times when an elected official wants to be seen volunteering at the soup kitchen or shoveling people's walks or doing some Cory Booker-in-Newark stuff.

Cruz, by himself, cannot do a lot to alleviate the suffering of Texans right now. But at a moment such as this, every public servant wants to be able to say, "I did what I could."

At this point Cruz is just a carachacher not to be taken seriously, he's simply the embodiment of a Twitter troll out to own the libs. Rafael is a spineless, simpering little wiesel who bends a knee to a known criminal POS traitor to this country who insulted Cruz' wife and accused his father of felony murder. The fact that he could not outthink Donmentia, a "man" in obvious mental decline, and come up with some zippy insults that would stick, means that Cruz pissed away all that money spent on his Ivy League education. Cruz has risen as high as he will ever get in public life. It's a shame he won reelection, Beto would have been a far superior representative to the formerly great state of TX.

Ted Cruz's Cancun Trip: Family Texts Detail His Political Blunder
www.nytimes.com

...The Texas senator faced fierce blowback for fleeing his state as a disaster unfolded. Text messages sent by his wife revealed a hastily planned trip away from their "FREEZING" family home.

Text messages sent from Ms. Cruz to friends and Houston neighbors on Wednesday revealed a hastily planned trip. Their house was "FREEZING," as Ms. Cruz put it " and she proposed a getaway until Sunday. Ms. Cruz invited others to join them at the Ritz-Carlton in Cancn, where they had stayed "many times," noting the room price this week ($309 per night) and its good security. The text messages were provided to The New York Times and confirmed by a second person on the thread, who declined to be identified because of the private nature of the texts....

I get it now. Ted and Heidi Cruz wanted their children to be safe, to have basic sanitary services like heat and running water, to leave behind a third-world apocalyptic nightmare for a safer place. Like so many parents before them, they decided to cross the Mexican border.

I'm quite sure that California senators have not stayed in place to enjoy the governor's man-made disaster.

And there is no reason why they should stay.

Which would imply that he should do his job and be a leader like the people of Texas have elected him to be. He could get on the phone and get in front of tv cameras and pressure all of his wealthy business leader friends who he has done favors for over the years to rush aid to the the people of his state. He could engage his campaign staff to use their expertise in organizing and call upon his volunteers to get to work on getting help to people who need it instead of focusing on raising money for his next run. Take a look at how Beto O'rourke organized a network of volunteers to start calling some of the state's most vulnerable seniors to help get them resources they need. Take a look at how frequent Cruz punching bag AOC raised over $2M in less than 24 hours to aid the people of Texas. There's so many things a person with the wealth, connections and notoriety that Ted Cruz could do but Ted Cruz ran away from the problem and abandoned the people of Texas when his state was hit with a historical crisis. Ted Cruz failed the test in the most public and tone deaf possible way when his people needed him the most.
