Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has helped raise $2 million in direct relief for Texans struggling with power outages and freezing temperatures, and she announced Friday that she's heading the state to help distribute supplies to people in need. Ocasio-Cortez said she'll be meeting with Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-Texas) in Houston to help get supplies out to people and amplify the region's needs and solutions.

"Charity isn't a replacement for good governance, but we won't turn away from helping people in need when things hit the fan," the congresswoman said in a follow-up tweet. "People understand that now is the time for collective action and doing what we can w/ whatever we've got."

She included a link to a website where people can donate money to a mix of Texas nonprofits scrambling to help people get food and care amid the power outages caused by the harsh weather, including the South Texas Food Bank, Family Eldercare and Corazon Ministries.

Ocasio-Cortez has leaned on her massive following on Twitter to spread the word on the need to help struggling Texans. She raised $1 million in less than a day by appealing to her 12.4 million followers for support.

This is what leadership looks like and how it should act in concrete ways to help the lives of American citizens.

Hats off to AOC and all those pitching in to help Texans in their moment of crisis.

AOC is a good human being.

She's a good leader.

Three cheers for her efforts to help Americans in need.

Looking at her Twitter account.

There's no shortage of jackholes telling her to keep the money and stay out of Texas.

No good deed goes unpunished.

Partisanship is sinking America.

People in Texas dont have the resources to talk trash on twitter.

most of those people arent in texas and I wonder how many arent even American.

I didn't like AOC when she first hit the scene. She said some pretty stupid things back then. But she does seem like she's learned from her mistakes and has grown into her role as a representative and generally good person.

WTG AOC! Over $2 million raised now.

Leadership? Maybe. Taking responsibility for one's fellow man/woman? Most certainly. Demonstrating empathy? Without a doubt. AOC's actions will not be forgotten by those she and her donors helped. Let's hope that all Texans who have suffered and struggled in the past week (and their struggling and suffering is not over, even with warmer weather) remember next election day their elected officials who were busy running from responsibility, ducking and diving from their constituents, and pointing fingers in every which direction but at themselves...

Texas politicians would rather their constituents starve and/or freeze than accept help from AOC.

It's up to $3.2 million now.

Again, kudos AOC, grateful Texans appreciate your efforts.

Texans appreciate your efforts.

She's smart. Seeing us all as Americans instead of Texans vs New Yorkers.

Each state against each other was what Trump was preaching.

Because divided we fall, and the nation fails.

If you're not a rich briber, excuse me, campaign contributor you just don't matter to Rs. All they've got to do is sound a couple of dog whistles and enough people will vote for them. They'll call AOC a socialist and that will end the discussion.

That is a hell of a compliment considering your usual leanings.

Honestly I feel exactly the same, although I didn't think her intent was ever bad, but I thought she acted a little out of turn for a rookie.

She's earned her stripes though and this level of bipartisanship will go a long way for her and her coalition.

"The hero doesn't always wear a white hat and cowboy boots. Sometimes she wears makeup and high heels."

You'd think Republicans would love how when Texas faced a crisis politicians were able to organize without the machinery of government and did wellness checks on hundreds of thousands of people and raised millions of dollars in assistance while people were without heat, food, and water. That's the kind of self reliance they like, right? The kind of self reliance they believe is what truly makes this country great, right? Wrong. They prefer the politicians who were unable to do anything because they couldn't bark orders into a telephone. Politicians who blamed their constituents. Politicians who make up straw men that had absolutely no bearing on their current problems. Politicians who fled the country rather than stay and do whatever they could to help people. Politicians who believe regulating utilities hurts business. Politicians who simply gave up and shrugged off their responsibilities, responsibilities they swore to take on by accepting elected office. The politicians who did nothing? Greg Abbott and Ted Cruz. The politicians who actually did something to help and whom Republicans can't stand? Beto O'Rourke and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. AOC doesn't even live in the state and she made it her job to do whatever she could to help people who can't stand her. Republicans really need to stop smelling their own farts and calling it ambrosia.

We just hit $4 million!

Reps. Sylvia Garcia, Sheila Jackson Lee & Al Green of Houston are doing incredible work w/ local relief organizations to get emergency relief to Texans.

Today we went to food distributions, water delivery sites, and home tours of impacted Texans.

Yes and no. Let's not concede the state. There are a lot of Democrats in Texas, and she worked with the Hispanic Caucus to literally put (her) boots on the ground:

Sylvia R. Garcia @LaCongresista

Thank you to my @HispanicCaucus colleagues for reaching out and helping us get through these tough times. Your support is so appreciated.

How many deplorable heads would explode if AOC took a chunk of the cash she raised to fund a romantic getaway with George Soros?

Literally.

I appreciate that Fess! Three years during college and grad school: a sushi bar, Buffalo Wild Wings and finally a dreadful urban nightclub that ended almost every night with a pepper spray riot.

Good times.
