Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

An exclusive Suffolk University/USA TODAY Poll finds Trump's support largely unshaken after his second impeachment trial in the Senate, this time on a charge of inciting an insurrection in the deadly assault on the Capitol Jan. 6. By double digits, 46%-27%, those surveyed say they would abandon the GOP and join the Trump party if the former president decided to create one. The rest are undecided.

I don't think Trump can afford to start his own party. It isn't an easy thing to do and the expense is formidable with no guarantee of success.

While nearly half of Republican voters say they would vote for him again, that's not where the money is and it's big money that runs elections ~ not nickel and dime donations from the blue collar Joe Lunchpails who answer poll questions.

Actually, the big money depends on the RNC fundraisers and they're going to look out for #1. That may not be Donald Trump since his baggage almost guarantees another election boondoggle.

Once the shock of losing 2020 wears off and the wheels of deceit take control again, I suspect Donald will try to set himself up . . . not as the King which he thought was his just due . . . but as a King-maker who will gratuitously overlook his wheeling and dealing behind the scenes for self-enrichment.

Trump to claim total control of GOP
www.axios.com

...In his first post-presidential appearance, Donald Trump plans to send the message next weekend that he is Republicans' "presumptive 2024 nominee" with a vise grip on the party's base, top Trump allies tell Axios.

What to watch: A longtime adviser called Trump's speech a "show of force," and said the message will be: "I may not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I'm still in charge." Payback is his chief obsession. ...

And the suckers will keep sending him cash for the next four years.

@#4

I'm not yet convinced that fmr Pres Trump will be able to retain the control of the GOP that he so desires.

But for the foreseeable future, I do see him setting the agenda for the voters of the GOP.

The GOP is the Party of Trump, for now.

Best idea ever.

I think the key is how much of the support is cult of personality vs real philosophical agreement.

Trump is unhealthy and old. we'll see the answer to the above question when he keels over and how his sycophants react to that.

He'll be dead before 2024

1/2 means about 32 million. Never happen. Trump is done, steam cleaned and pressed.

Headline fail. Should read "HALF OF GOP FOOLS WOULD GIVE MONEY TO GRIFTER THEN RUN INTO RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC"

"Trump is done, steam cleaned and pressed."

Nonsense. Even if he doesn't run again he's still sitting on a half billion dollars that he'll dangle in front of every Republican. He doesn't even have to spend it all in one election cycle, he can dole it out over two or three. And he'll continue to raise money, making him relevant even longer. Trump is the leader of the Republican party until the day he dies.

You built that.

I have difficulty seeing how the Republican Party will not branch off into a new Party IF that is what Donald Trump wants. I'm just not sure he wants it. What he wants is money and adulation in that order. Branching off into a new Party would definitely affect both those needs.

And, for what it is worth, I do not think Trump is toast. He got @ 75 million votes last November. He still has a huge reservoir of stupid gung-ho supporters. Obviously that could change quickly if he is indicted, prosecuted and convicted. Or if the GOP "leadership" actually grew a pair of balls and threw him out onto the curb face-first (but we all know by now that will not happen.)

DO IT!!! Come on, Combover Quisling here's your chance to make history, to have a Presidential legacy that President Biden can't erase in two weeks. Here's your chance to get back at the GOPers who weren't sufficiently loyal to the Big Lie! DO ITTTTTTTT!!!!!??

"Even if he doesn't run again he's still sitting on a half billion dollars that he'll dangle in front of every Republican."

That will be used up for the tax trial/fine he's facing.
ergo: done like dinner. finito

"He got @ 75 million votes last November"

About 1/2 is 32 mill. that's not even close to enough.

32 million motivated activist partisans is far more than enough to launch a new Party. Because if it caught on, the numbers would grow quickly and dramatically.

Trump doesn't have to form a new party or even run again to get the attention and donations he craves. He just has to say he will. He won't do either successfully.

I am hoping his narcissistic need for revenge and his insatiable greed will compel him to cause chaos for the GOP, until saner heads exorcize Trump from the party.

So why is your entire party so terrified of him that they repeat every one of his lies as gospel and refuse to hold him accountable for anything?

#18 Great question.

Republicans have no answer.

Q M I

I don't know what Hillary had to do with it but there was (and still is) an ongoing plot to destroy the establishment, which includes the GOP as well as the the entire constitutional republic. And yes, you not only fell for it, you'll continue to fall for it every time.

That Hillary is so crafty, I kinda wonder what your problem is with her!

Does it matter? Hillary is Trump's favorite target and "Q" assumes the role of Pavlov's dog.

It would help cleanse the Republican Party of its core of racists, supporters of the aristocracy of the 1%, and of course, the insane far right white supremacist, white nationalist religious "people".
Me, I am a socialist, but stay in the Democratic Party because splitting the vote is a really stupid way to get things done.
It would make for some amazing tv, this new Trump party, they could advertise as being the home for the true Americans.
Kidding...they wouldn't need advertisements, they would be the party of Q, and as everyone knows, they work in secret to make America stronger.
Just look at how strong they made us after the Capitol fascists attacked.

The only thing it would accomplish is fracturing the GOP to the point of rendering it ineffectual.

I think the mission is to destroy the current 2-party "establishment" and establish an autocracy which has only one party and a dictator.

from above...

Clearly Hagbard, you haven't been paying attention...

1). Trump has never been worth as much as he has claimed he is worth.
2). The majority of what he 'owns' is already owed to somebody. Or is carefully managed debt.
3). And as far as 'doling out money to others', I've seen a whole lot of blather, and very little
action in this regard. Trump's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd favorite charity, has always been Trump himself.
Oh he talks a good show, but he doesn't write any checks.
I will give you that he does raise money. But then again with a party full of idiots, and suckers, and raving lunatics,
it doesn't take much to do that...
