Jonathan Rauch: When I step back to look at the legacy of President Donald Trump, a surprising conclusion emerges: He has substantially altered the Constitution. His changes aren't formal, of course. But his informal amendments are important. If left to stand, they threaten to make Congress an advisory body and give carte blanche to rogue presidents.

More like suddenly republicans will pretend to care about executive power and budget deficits again.

Executive power in the hands of biden is dangerous! But in the hands of a lifelong con artist and proven criminal it should be unlimited and he should be able to do anything even if it's illegal and if it's illegal he's above the law.

Every word from this article is true and terrifying. We have always thought the norms, the unwritten rules, the generally accepted way in which the constitution was interpreted for our institutions would hold our democracy together. That is until a petulant man-child with anger issues and the intellect of a delayed 12-year-old comes along uses a hammer to break anything in his path.

Dotard broke any rule he felt like because he has been getting away with crimes his entire life. For rich people, the law is considered more of a series of suggestions. When that man-child finds a subservient AG, he then owns the Justice Department and we are so screwed because he can quash investigations into his friends, order investigations of his enemies, and dangle pardons at will to subvert law enforcement and the rule of law.

As long as that man-child can bully the ball washers in the House, Senate, and state parties, he can do ANYTHING HE ---- WANTS. If you haven't read the article, read it, because we need Congress and President Biden to un-Trump the government before the next Trump-like figure comes along. They have to find a way to enforce congressional subpoenas, fast-track the courts when it comes to disagreements between Congress and the WH, limit POTUS' ability to declare an emergency in order to re-route funds at will, and most importantly depoliticize the Justice Department and quash the OLC memo regarding the indictment of a sitting president, because obviously as long as the president's party holds 34 seats in the Senate, no POTUS will ever be convicted.

If we can't impeach a POTUS for inciting an insurrection that would have killed some of the Senators who voted to acquit him, then no president will ever be convicted in the Senate. We are lucky that Barr apparently drew the line at falsifying evidence because Matt Gaetz, Gym Jordan, Mark Meadows, or Devin Nunes would have had no qualms with creating as much evidence as Dotard wanted in order to overturn the election. It's fortunate that some people at Justice were unwilling to use the counterfeit "evidence" Rudy Colludy brought back from Ukraine.

Wait how does the letter "F" followed by "ing" get censored? WTAF?

this article is truly frightening.
trump must never be allowed in office again.
the article proves, beyond any doubt, that his
true goals were unlimited power and unchecked authoritarianism.

he was a would-be dictator, just waiting for a 2nd term
to solidify his hold...

and his supplicant GOP let him almost do the unthinkable.

Can't say Trump didn't warn us that he was heading toward a FAscist state.
Can't say I will ever forgive either Trump or any of his followers.
But that is just me.
I like democracy, I see Fascism as evil, I think having a putin as President would murder American rule of law.
