Federal investigators are examining records of communications between members of Congress and the pro-Trump mob that attacked the US Capitol, as the investigation moves closer to exploring whether lawmakers wittingly or unwittingly helped the insurrectionists, according to a US official briefed on the matter.

"exploring whether lawmakers wittingly or unwittingly helped the insurrectionists"

I'll go with wittingly.

Good.

If I might, I'd also suggest that the investigators examine any communications between those in the circle of fmr Pres Trump and those who took part in the insurrection.

As an example, I'd proffer a starting point for such an investigation: Mr Stone and the Proud Boys.

(and I do feel sorry for those investigators who have to watch that evidence video of Mr Stone trying to dance.)

Oh no is someone going to get CENSURED!? What an effective punishment against someone who doesn't have any shame.

@#4 ... someone going to get CENSURED!? ...

That's an interesting point.

Who is doing the investigating, and what might be the charges and subsequent punishment to any crimes that might have been committed?

The punishment will equal trump's punishment. Nothing besides a really serious finger wagging.

@#6 ... will equal trump's punishment. ...

Our Justice system seems to give a bye to crimes committed by the President. (rightly or wrongly, that appears to be the way it is. A discussion of that is probably a whole, long, and different thread.)

More to the point now, however, will members of Congress who may have abetted the insurrection face appropriate charges for their actions?

And the $64,000 (OK, that doesn't seem like a whole lot nowadays, but back in the day it was a significant sum...) question. ...

How high up into the Republican party will the trail of evidence lead?

Don't look at the end result you hope to achieve, look at where the evidence leads you.

Jus' sayin'

Let me rephrase that, with parenthetical comments...

Don't look at the end result you hope to achieve (politics), look at where the evidence leads you (justice).

I have no idea what you are trying to convey because your comment provides no context.

So, please be a bit more specific regarding the target of your "...hhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha..." comment.

LAMP

I think TRUTH HURTS is trying to say I told you so.

Not that Trump's hatchet men in Congress didn't smell like dead fish long before January 6.

Now you see why Josh Hawley was so focused on what metadata the FBI had on cell phones during the attack.

"exploring whether lawmakers wittingly or unwittingly helped the insurrectionists"

You mean like Twunt Boebert tweeting the location of the Speaker after being told specifically to NOT TWEET THEIR LOCATION by Secret Service?

Sounds 100% like she was in on it.

That would be 1000x the punishment ------- got from the QOP.

Headline fail: should read 'witless' when describing GOP congressfolk.

It would not surprise me that members of the GOP congressional delegation aided and abetted the terrorist rioting criminals. Given the rarity of such GOP fellow travelers to be expelled from the House, it will be left to their constituents to vote them out of office. Given the badly gerrymandered state of most congressional districts, these crooks, having given aid and comfort to hundreds who will find themselves in jail, will be re-elected. Perhaps the only punishment they will receive will be to be added to the TSA 'No-Fly' list...

my point is that I think it hilarious that people think any consequences will be felt by congressional supporters of insurrection, but go ahead with more and more "investigations" I look forward to more chuckles

Perhaps the Senate should have spend a few days, weeks or months prosecuting all of -------- crimes. Nah some toothless investigation will give us that power ----- we all want!!!!

Yes that's what his second impeachment amounted to.

And that's all that will happen to all the terrorist insurrection politicians.

And dems will keep acting like we can just go back to 2015 if we're nice to them, and when their next violent attack or attempt to end democracy occurs, dems will hold partial responsibility.

It doesn't matter. We wont get all that info. Just like dems didn't use the first impeachment opportunity to fully expose all of trump's crimes. They decided the country doesn't deserve to know and it's better to just "move forward".

#20 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2021-03-05 01:05 PM | Reply

While dems are looking forward, the republicans are looking to take over
