President Joe Biden intends to work with Congress to repeal the war authorizations that have underpinned U.S. military operations across the globe for the past two decades ... In a statement to POLITICO, press secretary Jen Psaki said the president wants to "ensure that the authorizations for the use of military force currently on the books are replaced with a narrow and specific framework that will ensure we can protect Americans from terrorist threats while ending the forever wars."

Can't really say that I'm surprised by this action since it makes all the sense in the world. America should remain just as safe without our overused 20 year old AUMFs but we are always vulnerable in today's world. Nothing is insured but for uncertainty.

I'm pretty sure the Airmen manning the USAF missile complexes and the Seamen manning the USN boomers guaranty our safety as a nation.

Everything else is just b@llsh@t.

oops, forgot :)

9-11 was simply the consequences of poor foreign policy and was no actual threat to the US as a nation.

Not gonna shed a tear for the people who died, they were just collateral damage.

Okay, but what does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

Meaningless. It's just an update on text and he's already launched airstrike into Syria based on the AUMF.

Who's going to be the first sock puppet to show up and claim Biden hates our military and is degrading it with this action?

#6 based on existing AUMF, which he wants to replace with narrow ones.

"Narrow". It's a global conflict.

No ongoing AUMFs at all. Make Congress take the hard votes. Make them vote on the record every damn time. This blank check for decades stuff is --------. Have actual debates about the use of force, be a co-equal branch. Duh.

"Make them vote on the record every damn time."

Like that would work. It's been tried and it does not work. Congress cannot be counted in to do its job in a timely manner. Why suggest something that obviously would never work? That is why there is an AUMF in the first place.

How has Congress handled the war on a deadly virus? M

Not so well.

How many Americans died while the last Congress dithered?

Maybe Congress will create a commission to find out someday.

Don't hold your breath.

I like where this is going. I like that it is being talked about and debated. Being brought to the forefront and questioned. I will give Biden credit just for that.

But, I will reserve judgement until I see what comes out of it. It could just be a codification of unchecked hawkish executive power. But, I will remain optimistic that it will turn out to be something real and useful and good for our country in the long run.

Congress abdicated their responsibility decades ago. Before Korea even. They don't want to be co equal they want to be in charge of the purse but not warmaking. So they should never authorize open ended funding for war. They should be concientious about war funding and they should vote to reauthorize funding every time.

About time, should have been done a long time ago. We need a revolutionary strategist to come in and figure out a new framework. The only concern is will Biden allow changes to happen that also limit his power and abilities? That will be the real test of his intentions. I think he will, he seems like a guy who would do the right thing in this situation.

So your cult leader didnt do the right thing, but the guy you wanted your cult leader to defeat did.

Yet your loyalty will remain forever with the cult leader.
