A new study shows that while states led by Democratic governors were overwhelmed by the coronavirus pandemic in the early months of the crisis, per-capita rates of Covid-19 cases and deaths eventually became most severe in states with Republican governors -- a finding the researchers attribute to diverging approaches to public health policies that affected the spread of the virus.

File that under "no one could have predicted".

The 1% is all that matters to them. The middle class doesn't matter and the working poor are just gears in the machinery to them. Them saying "labor is a commodity" is just letting you know you mean ---- to them. A tool to be used up and tossed aside when no longer 100% productive.

Worse yet they will make common sense and simple precautionary efforts like masks a political issue to cater to the truly stupidest people on the earth that will cause at the minimum stress on law enforcement and workers in stores and at the worst spread of disease like Sturgis did.

Wait till the effects of Daydumba bike week spread across the US.

My own cousin is heading to FLA in two weeks because "it is just too boring to stay home" during spring break.

She came over to have her taxes done, saw me with a mask on and said "Really? Are you serious?" I told her that officemax sells tax software if she doesn't want to do the simplest friggin step. All she did was bitch about how uncomfortable it is. I told her that I am uncomfortable with it on, but a ventilator is more uncomfortable. She launched into a screed about how it isn't as bad as the news says, that no one is dying from this and it is no worse than the flu...and she works in health care. Trumpism is mental disease....terminally stupid.

Not surprising, and this with the Democratic lead states doing all they could to figure out how to treat and help victims survive. All that knowledge gained and transferred to the Red states, and all for what? So the Red state Governors and Red state Trumpian fools could ignore it and die. If anyone's interested here's the Johns Hopkins link: www.jhsph.edu and to the published study in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine: www.ajpmonline.org/article/S0749-3797(21)00135-5/fulltext (copy and paste this into your browser as it will not properly parse)

Of course this is true.

It was easily predicted when red states started announcing they were throwing caution to the wind and opening anyway.

Whenever I hear some idiot talking about how NY and CA are the worse in COVID stats I have to walk away or else I'll be a giant ------- to them. Red states are as bad or worse except they had the benefit of the cumulative knowledge gained from blue states in the initial outbreaks and chose to ignore it.

Red state governments are complicit in the death and illness that occurred in their states.

The GQP is a death cult.

NY and CA were the entry points (Washington state as well). When the so-called President of the United States was calling it a hoax, a "little flu", and giving all our PPP to Russia. After the first 50,000 deaths or so all the Red state thought it'd be smart to throw away masks and pack the bars.

Completely unpredictable, except for the fact it was completely predictable.

Here's another prediction: in swing states, Covid will kill Republicans at a greater rate than Democrats, even after accounting for a liberal lean among health care workers.

It seems Republican's are determined to get people off unemployment by whatever means necessary.

I read a few days ago that if every state did what Washington State did, with an early complete lockdown and a mask mandate as soon as CDC made the recommendation, that about 300k fewer people would have died. The MAGAts screamed about how terrible Governor Inslee is, but he saved a lot of lives. WA had one of the first diagnosed cases of Coronavirus, yet was fourth-best in outcomes.

"The analyses adjusted for state population density, rurality, Census region, age, race, ethnicity, poverty, number of physicians, obesity, cardiovascular disease, asthma, smoking,"

So, what were the raw numbers? What 'adjustments' were applied? Why cannot I not access their actual dataset?

Find the study and you'll see the numbers.

I went to their website. Only can download the paper, no raw data sets. You can find the raw data? I would be interested in seeing it if you can.

Methods give the website for HHS PCR test time course data and the date they accessed the data for analysis.

healthdata.gov

I'm sure there's probably more data there now than what the paper used.
