Translation: Taiwan doesn't want to talk about how they could nuke Beijing at any moment.

I think it is truly great news Taiwan is investing in it's defense. It's clear the US couldn't stop the Chinese and it seems more likely every day that the Chinese are seriously considering this. Mainland considers Taiwan a part of "their" China. The Chinese that fled to Taiwan during the civil war consider themselves a separate country. One can only hope Taiwan is equipped to make it so costly that it wouldn't be considered.

Here is a MAJOR reason why China wants to control Taiwan. I don't believe it really as much about "one China" at this point as it is about the advanced manufacturing in Taiwan. There are two places in the world today that high level chip manufacturing is happening - Taiwan and South Korea. I mean anything at any reasonably relevant level is being made in one of those two places. China manufacturing is also more goobered than the US right now because of a shortage of chips, from what I have read other countries have some priority. You can bet Xi is not happy about that and China has not been able to get chip manufacturing rolling in mainland China. Throw in the raising the stakes the Chinese have been doing with their probing of Taiwan's defenses... I would also say that South Korea should be on notice as well. Would a two prong assault be out of the question?

Some major Western power has to convince a leading chip manufacturing company or two to build plants in the US and/or Europe. And not just any plants. We really need 7nm, 5nm and yes 3nm plants. 5nm plants are on line or close and 3nm plans have been announced by Intel, Samsung, and TSMC. Intel being a US company... Throw in that we still have the undisputed leader of the most pure silica produced right here in the US - Hemlock Semiconductor. A lot of others are "good enough" but for some of these newer chips I have to believe the more pure the better.
