Lawyers for the Department of Justice have asked a judge for additional time to decide whether to turn former President Donald Trump's taxes over to the House Ways and Means Committee.

If the problem with the case is that Trump's personal lawyers got involved, couldn't the House just drop the case? Wouldn't that permit the Biden admin to follow their interpretation of the law stating that the IRS SHALL provide tax returns to the requesting House committee?

It's legal crap. Nothing is done in a quick or efficient manner.

Right. Why aggressively prosecute and punish the most corrupt criminal leader we've ever had?

Dems would rather find all new ways to lose to him again.

Did I miss it or does the article not in any way explain why they're stalling?

Yeah that's why OJ went to jail for burglary not murder, and trump is still eligible to fun for office.

Because our justice system is so good.

I am sure that DOJ and the House lawyers, who according to the story have been in communication and will continue to communicate in the future, are making sure that their case is bulletproof. Obviously they have to anticipate that Dotard's bottom-of-the-barrel attorneys will file suit as soon as DOJ and the House come to an agreement. Also, I'm sure that DOJ doesn't want to appear partisan, as they have much bigger Dotard fish to fry than this tax matter, so a little delay won't hurt anything. Don't forget, the Manhattan DA already has the taxes, is going over them with a fine tooth comb, and that's where the criminal exposure exists for Orange Adolf. I'm not sure what punishment Ways and Means can levy on Drumpf at this point in time, maybe cancelling his lease on his DC hotel? As far as I've seen, the Drumpfs are trying to get out from under that property anyway. Ways and Means will get the taxes in a month or so. In the meantime, Dems have a LOT of legislating to do.

You nailed that one with a sledge hammer.

The Manhattan DA is New York State. The DOJ (Federal) is aiming for a bigger win. They could cross paths (bank fraud for one example) so it's important to take the time to bullet proof their case(s).

BTW, I think Trump has a 100 year lease on that old Post Office Building. Ways and Means isn't about to let him off the hook. If Trump wants out he'd have to buy out the balance of the lease or sublet it to someone else if that's allowed in the contract.

#8 back in 2019 I read in a couple of placed that the Drumpf Org was trying to sell the lease. Obviously there either had no takers, or it was a marketing/publicity scam.

I haven't heard of any Saudi Princes walking around measuring the drapes at the hotel either. That revenue source for Trump seems to have gone dry.

The last time I was inside The Old Post Office, it had lots of little kiosks and shops.

I bought a funny book there called "The Fart Book," an illustrated guide to various types of farts ranging from the 'zipper fart' to the "presidential fart" that no one present acknowledges. I still have it somewhere in the attic.

I'm curious now about all those sweetheart deals Kushner drummed up for himself with Saudi financial backing. He didn't make all those taxpayer funded trip to Saudi Arabia just to coffee clutch with the royal family.

I think the Trump "brand" has been put on life support for lack of oxygen.
