From a secure room in the Capitol on Jan. 6, as rioters pummeled police and vandalized the building, Vice President Mike Pence tried to assert control.

I read the article and see the beginning of what the Trump Administration is going to claim was the reason for the lack of proper security and it's just as pathetic as I suspected it would be.

You don't have to have a heavy military or police presence in order to have them called in at the drop of a hat and yes the moment that the insurrectionists started to overwhelm the police the military should have been called in.

The arrival of a helicopter gunship with minigun would have dissuaded 90% of the insurrectionists on the spot.

Trump put a bullseye target on Pence because Pence refused to scuttle the confirmation. I truly believe Trump wanted him killed.

That's the kind of criminal entitlement mentality that permeated the Trump administration. He was willing to kill the Vice President in a fit of revenge. There aren't any words disgusting enough to spell it out.

I would've loved to be a fly on the wall the next time the two of them met face to face.

I don't think Trump wanted Pence killed merely as an act of revenge. I think he wanted him killed--and Nancy too--so he could declare martial law and from there figure out a way to retain the presidency.

...and from there figure out a way to retain the presidency.

And it didn't work and now he's a Lewzer again. I'm sure it eats at him every minute of every day.

I agree with GAL

Trump was at the end of his rope and Martial Law (suspending the Constitution) was his only option even if he had to murder everybody who stood in his way.

I've often wondered ~ is Trump really that demented? Or was he more afraid of what Vladimir Putin would do to him for failure to open the pathway through Ukraine that Putin needed for Russia's expansion. Keep in mind, Putin voted himself to stay in office until 2036 just for that very purpose. It was his top priority. It was his claim to fame and glory.

I'm thinking that's the only reason behind Trump's desperation to get back in power. He's terrified of Vladimir Putin ~~ who is renowned for settling his grievances in the most unpleasant ways.

In addition to a fear of Putin, I think Trump was worried about going to prison for the cases being investigated in NY--once he no longer had presidential protection. Also, he had gotten a taste of what the unobstructed power of the presidency afforded him and didn't want to let that go.

@#6 ... he had gotten a taste of what the unobstructed power of the presidency afforded him and didn't want to let that go. ...

Power corrupts.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I'm sure Trump begged Mr. Putin for another chance. If he fails again, prison may be safer for him than Mar-a-Lago.

Too bad that Trump enabler didn't get drawn and quartered.

There has been talk of Whitey running for president in 2024. Not getting any military response on 1/6 and not getting an invitation to the Palm Beach GOP----------- and ring-kiss are all the indications Pence needs to know he is finished as a political candidate. He might consider himself lucky to be alive...
