The air freshener excuse is a common one that police use once they've profiled someone (racially or otherwise), pulled them over, and determined that they had not committed any OTHER offense.

Not many people know that it's illegal to hang anything from your rear view mirror. Police use this ignorance to their advantage when profiling.

Another load of bull. I'm beginning to think that cops shouldn't be able to carry guns anymore. Like in Britain. They only bring out the hardware when it's absolutely necessary. Are cops so afraid now that their itchy trigger-finger pops a cap in someone as easily as opening a box of cigarettes?

I've got a work placard on my rearview mirror along with 12 scented Christmas trees. The only profile I could come up with is the dude has a job and his truck stinks.

Oh, this is gonna be a problem.

From the Washington Post:

The suburban Minneapolis police officer who fatally shot a 20-year-old unarmed Black man during a traffic stop Sunday apparently meant to fire a Taser but instead made an "accidental discharge" from her gun, the police chief said Monday.

Less than 24 hours after a female officer in the Brooklyn Center Police Department shot and killed Daunte Wright, Police Chief Tim Gannon played an unedited clip of police body camera video showing the fatal incident for the media.

The video, which was played at a news conference, shows two officers approach the vehicle " one on each side. The third officer approaches later as the two attempt to handcuff Wright and he struggles. The third officer threatens that Wright that she will taze him before firing.

Immediately thereafter she is her saying, "Holy s---, I shot him," apparently realizing that she had fired her service weapon instead of her Taser.

Our agency has a policy that requires you to carry your taser on your weak hand side. The change was made after the Oscar Grant killing in 2009. We train using our taser with our weak hand for the same reason. I cannot believe ANYBODY in MN is doing traffic stops aside from the most flagrant violations during the Chauvin trial, because things are already tense, and this will only make things much worse.

I read that earlier. A kid is dead and she is in deep sh--. Mind boggling - you have to wonder how often something like that happens and IS NOT on camera. The kid was no saint by any stretch but his actions didn't warrant a street execution.

Shades of Fruitvale with "accidental" discharge of weapon.

Can't looters even wait to see if there's a trial or not before they start looting?

#9 | Posted by Tor at 2021-04-12 07:01 PM | Reply

Can't. To protesters the looting of lives has already begun.

Traffic stops here in Nashville seem to have ground to a halt in the past year due to COVID concerns except for the most flagrant violations. I haven't seen one of the regular speed traps manned since COVID hit, nor have I seen but a couple cars pulled over on the roads.

Our local precinct's captain and lieutenant have been family friends for years and years. They've gotten rid of bad apples with Wyatt Earp Syndrome as soon as they possibly could.

The "accident" should at the very minimum disqualify the accident-prone individual from any type of job that requires being armed.

"MN cops pulled him over because he had an air freshener on his rearview mirror"

That's illegal?
???

These cops are just bullying people, and then escalating it to murder.

No reason whatsoever to pull someone over for such a trivial offense.

Clearly just harassment for harassment's sake.

With everybody and his dog carrying a gun the cops are on a hair trigger.

It has happened before. My mother-in-law's first boyfriend was shot and killed while walking home on the railroad tracks. It was during WWI and they thought he was a German spy.

Fear kills!

My son is a year younger than this kid.

Maybe it is time to ban white cops from arresting black people. Re staff as required.

Back the blue or support the troops?

Yeah it's funny ,NOT.

My experience has mostly been "licence, registration, insurance" , especially if there are two cops.

Ceptin one bad day on my motorcycle but even then they were extremely firm yet professional. Amazing how far your arms will go up your back and the knee to your neck only lasts a few seconds if done right. Face slam into the hood of the squad car in the dark in the desert.

Good to be white
But I must say ,I raised the adrenaline level in these fellows.

So does Brooklyn Center.

Looters aren't protesters, they have no interest in making things better or protesting systemic racism, they use the chaos of the protests for personal profit, they are criminals. In many instances During the George Floyd protests the protesters turned in the looters.
