...The details of the surveillance effort, known as iCOP, or Internet Covert Operations Program, have not previously been made public. The work involves having analysts trawl through social media sites to look for what the document describes as "inflammatory" postings and then sharing that information across government agencies....

When contacted by Yahoo News, civil liberties experts expressed alarm at the post office's surveillance program. "It's a mystery," said University of Chicago law professor Geoffrey Stone, whom President Barack Obama appointed to review the National Security Agency's bulk data collection in the wake of the Edward Snowden leaks. "I don't understand why the government would go to the Postal Service for examining the internet for security issues."...

They are using completely public information. I have no issue with this.

Is this mission creep? The US Postal Service is already cutting back on services. Why should they be tasked with this and not some other government agency under the DoD/NSA?

@#4

When I first read this, my initial thought (aside from, why the Postal Service?) was, why the Postal Service and not DHS?

Seriously, why the Postal Service?

It's nice to know the people working on this program have their pensions funded for the next 75 years.

Sorry, this isn't some brand new program initiated by the Biden administration. At the 90 day mark, this isn't something the new administration likely even knew about.

Yes, we'll blame DeJoy and the idiot who appointed someone hell bent on destroying the Postal Service so private companies can benefit .. and to suppress mail in voting.

NSA SPYING, HOW IT WORKS - The NSA's domestic spying program, known in official government documents as the "President's Surveillance Program," ("The Program") was implemented by President George W. Bush shortly after the attacks on September 11, 2001.

The NSA and FBI have been spying on everybody since at least 1997 when Carnivore debuted. There was Pinwale in 2005. Bullrun, Xkeyscore, Dishfire, Stone Ghost...
