Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, April 28, 2021

[T]he Murdoch-owned New York Post ... reported last week that a children's picture book written by Harris was being handed out to migrant children in "welcome kits" at a shelter in Long Beach, California. [O]ne copy of the book was received in a citywide donation drive ... copies were not being handed out in welcome kits. Laura Italiano, the New York Post reporter who wrote the original article, tweeted Tuesday evening that she had resigned. "The Kamala Harris story - an incorrect story I was ordered to write and which I failed to push back hard enough against - was my breaking point," she tweeted.

Fox News, which had published its own version of the article over the weekend, added an "editor's note" to its story, too, though it did not clearly correct the mistake: "In a previous version of this story, it was implied there were multiple copies of Harris' book available for children in welcome packs."

However, even after "Fox & Friends" co-host Ainsley Earhardt pointed to a report debunking the story, her colleague Steve Doocy immediately went on to push the narrative anyway, questioning whether the government was paying for the books.

Multiple high-profile Republicans amplified the claim, including House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (La.) and Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel, both of whom asked whether Harris was "profiting" off the border crisis.

This is where the left keeps misunderstanding the tactics and effect the anti-Biden right wing continually uses. The reality that they're almost always wrong on the facts is secondary to the point of them keeping their base in a constant state of outrage. The outrage is the point, and we're missing this.

They are trying to drive down Biden's and Harris' favorability by whatever means available, and when there are no means available, invent some. The honest media and politicians have to make sure that those pushing these false stories and narratives be held accountable as unreliable because of their willingness to traffic in lies without verifying the details. Turn them all into pariahs.

"...an incorrect story I was ordered to write and which I failed to push back hard enough against..."

In other words, it was a lie she says she was told to write up and publish - by whom? - which she then wrote up and published.

Murdoch should be the one to resign ownership of that cheap rag.

Fully agree with Tony.

Trumpers lie, retract, but the lie is already out and people don't care about the retraction anyway because the lie confirms their bias.

And if the Trumpers really get called out on the lie, they just say it was a joke.

Either way, damage done.

Based on the handful of comments above, it is obvious everyone gets it. The rightwing looks to smear the Democrats. If there is no truthful information with which to do it, better to lie and make up garbage. If there is a backlash, apologize or obfuscate after the fact when less people are paying attention.

"The Kamala Harris story - an incorrect story I was ordered to write and which I failed to push back hard enough against - was my breaking point," she tweeted.

She trashed her reputation for for the political agenda billionaire and in the end is out of the job anyways.

Kudos.

Not that being a "journalist" for any Murdoch propaganda outlet was much of a reputation to start with.
