Here's a good thing about slavery: It built this country. And the White House.
Here's a good thing about slavery: It demonstrates how Capitalism exploits private property (slaves) and natural resources (slaves) to create wealth.

Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.

The importation of slaves to the U.S. was banned in 1808, and slavery, which the country inherited (despite what idiot Tim Kaine claimed) was completely outlawed less than 80 years after the U.S. Constitution was ratified. Are those not good things about the history of slavery?

In Georgia, there are tabby slave cabins in a park and the signage identifies slavery as an "inexpensive labor force".
The Manhattan transplanted docent tried to tell me how nice some of the slaves had it.
I should have buried her right there.

Good things in history are not the same as good things in slavery.

Fort Fisher in the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame in Waco has outside cribs as well. When you come up to one, you wonder, what was stored in these little 6x8x6 buildings and then you read the historical marker and your blood runs cold. You get sick to your stomach and walk away feeling not a slight bit guilty of how this country was built.

Gotta say, this is the first time I've heard someone explain how 55 years of slave-breeding eugenics was a good thing.

Sentinel, you are truly a credit to you race!

every time I think of slavery,
I think of the most oppressive day
in the most oppressive job I ever had,
working for the biggest --- of a boss
I ever had, when I thought I just couldn't
go on anymore...and then imagine what it would
have felt like, while being whipped, while
living in filth at the same time...

white people don't know jack about slavery...

PS: It was haunting to finally know why black people call their homes "cribs." At least around here it's pretty common. For example, "Are you going to have lunch here? No, I'm going to head to the crib and chill for awhile."

Strangely enough, I can't find a photo of one at the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, or in any google search that comes close to the small, cramped little wood cabins made out of unfinished medium-sized wood branches.

Why rather, sleep, liest thou in smoky cribs,
Upon uneasy pallets stretching thee
And hushed with buzzing night-flies to thy slumber,
Than in the perfumed chambers of the great,
Under the canopies of costly state,
And lulled with sounds of sweetest melody?

Definitely old money - out of touch.

He owns two homes on St Claude (Not a great neighborhood) and parks a
brand new convertible mercedes sportscar in one. They are both empty -
the other one probably hold his faberge egg collection and confederate
paraphernalia.

Not really.

Northern states had abolished slavery by the early 1800s at the latest and were the economic powerhouse that caused the acceleration of US growth.

If you want to say slavery built the south that's far more accurate.

He should be tied to a post shirtless and beaten bloody with a leather whip, forced to work 14 to 16 hour days in the hot sun picking cotton, and raped every night by his owner for a few weeks, then the asshat can tell us about the goods of slavery. What a fracking POS!

So what's a good thing dealing with slavery that isn't simply on doing a bad thing dealing with slavery that happened earlier?

Hitler wasn't all bad, right? After all, he killed Hitler!

You truly are a piece of filth, aren't you. Any good that could've possibly come from slavery has been overshadowed by centuries of guilt and unpaid workmanship. Creep.
