Biden attends Mass at a DC church where he worshipped as VP. Catholic Bishops will be meeting next year and one topic is considering whether or not to push Biden and other Catholic political leaders who persist in public advocacy of abortion rights to refrain from taking part in the most Holiest Christian ceremony of receiving communion.

I mean...Catholics don't even like you using condoms. Much less the taking of unborn human life. As I've often said I have mixed feelings on blending religion and politics. However, in this case the Bishops seem mostly concerned with politicians being able to use their platform to promote secular ideas and beliefs.

Biden should stand in front of a freshly tear-gassed church while holding The Bible upside-down.

That will get him back in their good graces.

Maybe when the bishops out all the sexual predators from the priesthood they can start talking about morals, ok?

Their slogan is "save a life, finger someone's child instead"

Trump got kicked out of the Presbyterian Church and you people didn't say a thing and now you're hoping Biden gets kicked out of his.

Well guess what?

Trump didn't even try to outlaw abortion, gay marriage, or the death penalty and you people voted for him a second time.

Tor,

So many strawmen...so little time.

First...who is hoping Biden is kicked out?

Second...at no point did anyone say the Bishops are considering kicking him out?

Third...how is Trump even connected to this?

Tor,

Here's what I believe.

I suspect Trump and Biden are not repentant Christians but are Christians for show instead.

Bull$#!+, lot's of accidental mothers and fathers are definitely for abortion. Anyone having an abortion is to a greater or lesser extent is for abortion. That's pro-abortion.

Besides, the doctors performing the abortions are pros.

(Wah-wah)

I'm all for abortion being available to those whom choose that for themselves, but I myself am not pro-abortion.

Tor,

"Save for a extremely small and Disturbed minority nobody is pro-abortion any more than they are pro amputation yet we remain in favor of that being legal if the need arises."

I hear what you're saying. I get it.

However...here's my issue.

If people who were pro-choice would admit what is being killed is a human life and that they believe the woman should reserve the right to kill it, perhaps I might find the situation more understandable.

From what I see there is the continued opinion that the life can be killed because it doesn't count as being a legitimate life.

That being said, I don't endorse the idea of reversing R v W.

About Biden, he might should consider changing churches so he isn't in conflict with the Catholic church and putting them in the position of being forced to publicly chastise him.

When a zygote dies in utero and a D&C is required to lessen the suffering of the mother, the catholic church defines that as an abortion.

When a priest rapes a child...well that is just boys will be boys.

Nixon,

Biden endorsing abortion and also being the president puts him in the position of openly challenging church doctrine.

He is not some Joe off the street...so to speak. He is an influencer and standing opposed to the Catholic Church.

Why shouldn't Bishops have every right to defend their own stance without being threatened with government retaliation?

Btw...it's not just Catholics who perform Communion ceremonies. Protestant churches do as well and believe the unconverted and unrepentant should not participate.

When abortion was first outlawed in America it wasn't classified as a form of murder.

I believe those laws even predate the Catholic Church's stance on abortion.

And how is it that Catholics were able to vote for a guy who was married three times promoted porn and paid for abortions?

Tor,

All this just because Catholic Bishops are considering requesting Biden to refrain from taking communion.

You'd think they wanted to excommunicate him.

Legal,

No...I'm not...but so what?

What's your point?

Really...I don't buy into the whole Virgin Mary immaculate conception thing....and confession...rosary...etc.

And the Catholic politics is wasted on me.

However...my point is Biden is putting the Bishops in the position of needing to comment on the fact America's pro-choice president is attending a Catholic church and bringing their doctrine into the limelight.

(I never understood the whole anti-condom thing unless they just wanted to make more little Catholics)

#32 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2021-04-30 09:03 PM | Reply

Biden is pro choice, not pro abortion . Can you not understand the difference.

#33 | Posted by bruceaz at 2021-04-30 09:15 PM | Reply

Bill, it's obvious you never were a catholic.

Here is why it's a big deal. If a catholic can't take communion, THE most important sacrament to a catholic, which they also (should) believe is the actual flesh and blood of Jesus himself, then they may as well excommunicate Biden.

And Biden just can't switch churches, you know how protestants did and do, because for good, faithful catholics, the catholic church is the only one true church, and all dioceses are under Rome.

Yea, I'm a recovered catholic....and I'm not even angry.

#34 | Posted by LiquidCake at 2021-04-30 09:48 PM | Reply

Bruce,

"Biden is pro choice, not pro abortion"

I think that's how I worded it.

Personally, it's not the abortion thing I find the most disturbing.

It's the lack of sensing what is being killed is a human life.

#36 | Posted by BillJohnson at 2021-04-30 10:09 PM | Reply

Bruce,

Or....the analogy I've used before.

If a tomato plant blooms and begins to form little green balls people will say it's making little tomatoes.

But not humans.

Some people have more respect for plants than humans.

They can't call it what it is.

Little people.

Liquid,

"If a catholic can't take communion, THE most important sacrament to a catholic"

Never heard that.

The churches I've attended teach repetitive mandatory rituals that become an end in itself can lose it's meaning.

I've taken communion because I choose to and not because I must.

I rather enjoyed the twisting winding trail of rationalization the U.S. Council of Bishops goes through to finally approve the use of vaccines against COVID.
Yet they refuse to understand how the head of a secular government represents all the people and has an oath and duty to the constitution of that government.
Reading COVID Vaccination FAQ from them I'm left with the belief that Biden should (in their opinion) not be allowed communion for working so hard to get America vaccinated against COVID.

I genuinely despise religion when it intrudes like this. If you want your beliefs respected by the government you need to shut up about what you want the government to do for your religion. Otherwise some other religion(s) more powerful or connected will make your religion or beliefs their target.

This is the brilliance of the concept that is the United States; the separation of the two.

The conference of catholic bishops can go pound sand.

They have a boss. They should check with him.

And roughly 50% of the catholic vote went for Biden.

Let those bishops chew on that. They're just being drama queens.

People like Biden, Kerry, and Pelosi squared themselves with their political positions and their faith a long time ago. If they couldn't be a pro-choice Catholic then they would changed something many years ago. They aren't going to now.

Though, in Protestant churches, the communion holder is a silver platter that holds about 100 tiny cups of grape juice and the unleavened bread is round leavened crackers, so it sort of defeats the purpose. Then the Pastor's warning not to take communion if you still have sin in your heart unless you want to bring damnation upon yourself.

And it's only held every two months or so. Not like Catholic churches. Pretty much the only sacraments Protestant and Catholics share. Except for the passing of the plate, of course.

#47 | Posted by madscientist at 2021-05-01 10:44 AM | Reply

There is also a concept in Catholicism whereby you can be out of Gods grace when you stand up, make a conscious decision to have a change of heart on the walk, and have asked God and received forgiveness before receiving communion. Since this is part of the dogma, the priests are therefore putting themselves in the place of God...which is blasphemy.

This is not surprising. The Catholic church has horded billions of dollars while Catholics starve in the streets for centuries.
