Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

The Board has upheld Facebook's decision on January 7, 2021, to restrict then-President Donald Trump's access to posting content on his Facebook page and Instagram account. However, it was not appropriate for Facebook to impose the indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension. Facebook's normal penalties include removing the violating content, imposing a time-bound period of suspension, or permanently disabling the page and account. The Board insists that Facebook review this matter to determine and justify a proportionate response that is consistent with the rules that are applied to other users of its platform. Facebook must complete its review of this matter within six months of the date of this decision. The Board also made policy recommendations for Facebook to implement in developing clear, necessary, and proportionate policies that promote public safety and respect freedom of expression.

"The social media bans bit hard into Trump's visibility. But instead of reconstituting his following with the sort of show business flash and sparkle he brought to his White House years and the 2016 campaign"rallies, press conferences, televised appearances"the former president spent most of his exile in the minimum security prison that is Mar-a-Lago, where he keeps a vigil over the banquet table, gives half-hearted speeches to tens of supporters about the "stolen election," exposes his kissable ring to the lips of supporters and golfs."

As Gabby Orr and Meridith McGraw reported for POLITICO in mid-March, Trump has been adrift during his exile, indecisive, meandering and dawdling.

Former CNN White House reporter Jim Acosta put it best by describing the Trump post-presidency as a "sad old Elvis act," adding, "It's like he's an animatronic character, spewing out this stuff all over again like he has a string you pull behind him and replace the batteries when they're low inside."

So same as before then?

He's a traitor and a fascist seditionist-what's the hell is there to debate about? He's a traitor and needs to be sitting in prison awaiting trial, where he has access to a lawyer and nothing more.

Nothing on facebook.

So Lewzer Former Guy went on TV to say he won't run in 2024 if 2020 isn't resolved.

In his mind it will never be resolved, so it appears he is not going to run.

He and his family should get on the Trump plane and do rallies and fund raisers if he could afford it.

I saw a picture today of the Bidens visiting with the Carters. Imagine if Jimmy Carter would have spent the past 40 years whining about how unfair he was treated and how the election was rigged instead of helping people around the world.

Considering that his campaign doesn't want to pay its campaign bills, I would be surprised if any city would let him hold a rally on public property. He's probably going to be relegated to holding his campaign in airport hangars.

Now that he now longer has the cachet of being president, it's tough imagining how any city of consequence would allow him to hold a rally.

Donald Trump's social media platform' has launched and it's just a blog
www.theverge.com

...After months of promising his own social media network for banned posters, former President Donald Trump on Tuesday launched a new section of his website -- essentially a standard-issue blog.

The "platform" is styled like of Twitter but hosted as a running blog of Twitter-length commentary from Trump. People can sign up for post alerts on the platform through their email and phone numbers and are allegedly able to like them, although that function doesn't appear to work as of publication. Users are also allowed to share Trump's posts on Facebook and Twitter. The Twitter sharing option doesn't currently work, but Facebook's does allow people to share Trump's posts....

If he actually had money, he could tour like the Stones. Trump could rent venues and charge admission. Instead his plane sits languishing and he's trapped at Mar-A-Lago. He can't even afford an infomercial apparently. Trump's a fraud. He always has been.

Trump is chewing the furniture over this decision. The GOP is threatening Facebook. Then again, the GOP appears is threatening EVERYONE these days. Because, you know, threats are how you win hearts and minds.

I will add that it has been gloriously calm since Combover Quisling was booted off Twitter and FB. Can you imagine if he was on those sites spewing the Big Lie on a daily basis to his violent thug followers? I'm sure we'd have had many more episodes of political and racist violence since the insurrection.

Nothing quite like building up more demand for something than to tell people they can't have it.

Trump will be a bigger threat to Democrats now more than ever. They would have been smarter to let him post something and hope it's outrageous.

But Facebook isn't playing it that way.

Google, Facebook and Amazon are afraid of what Trump will do to them if he gets back in power.
