Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, the third-ranking Republican in the House, Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah, the 2012 Republican presidential candidate, and President George W. Bush, the last Republican president to amass a popular vote majority, have my undying respect for the manner in which they have stood steadfast in defense of the US Constitution and their principles

Not sure I entirely agree with Lee on all of her points but she certainly needs to be heard.

While I appreciate that they are standing up to Trump/Trumpites finally, it was their and other republicans prior rhetoric and actions that gave us the tea party and eventually Trump in the first place. All of them were happy to play along with these idiots until the lunatics took over the asylum.

The modern GOP... where simply stating reality and facts is a profile in courage and risks your entire career and maybe your life.

Good job rupert murdoch.

I was happy when Romney got nominated, Cheney seems to be sticking to her values whatever the hell they are, I am however straight-up scared to death of the fact that progressives are now praising George W bush.

I don't want to sound like a broken record but Bush's AIDS initiative is one of the most successful and most progressive policies ever undertaken by any president of either party.

Better late than never.

I guess.

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but Bush's illegal wars and embrace of torture were two of the most disastrous policies ever undertaken by any president of either party.

For the record, I hate it when Republicans like Cheney actually do something acceptable, even if it's literally the very least she can do wrt defending democracy, when her existence as a politician is tied to being a horrible and indefensible human being. I hate it when I have to defend someone like Cheney, but I'll do it when it counts. What she's doing here counts, so...dammit...good for her.

Now I need a shower.

True patriots? Nonsense. Romney invented vulture capitalism, Bush started illegal wars and was AWOL for his war in Vietnam and Cheney is a fat capitalist fascist pig that needs to go along with his buddy Bush. Liz Cheney is a carpet bagging whore that tried to secure a lifetime fishing license in Wyoming when she had not lived there for decades.

I don't disagree with any of that. But when compared to Trump and Co...

They.All.SUCK. Bush,Cheney the father, Cheney the brat. Baby Bush. All except maybe Bush senior,And lizzie, are indictable WAR CRIMINALS.

KILLERS OF INNOCENTS. Maybe things need to be more simple sometimes. Liz has no moral taint of aggressive war,Her father is a truly evil and corrupt man,a user of the State to commit Atrocities.

Dubya was dumb but that doesn't absolve him. He was the decider, even if he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

I love watching Republicans tear themselves apart over a con man. I love the irrational rage and loyalty to a fraud.

Trump is a symptom. Like a fever, the real disease is much more subtle and less obvious.

Some people just need a strong leader, even if he's a fraud. It's why we had Divine Right of King's. Humanity itself is ------.

We're all so screwed.

I also don't disagree with any of that, but it doesn't change the fact that Bush's unilateral decision to rescue Africa from the AIDS epidemic literally saved over 19 million lives.... or roughly the population of Florida.

I keep hammering this AIDS thing because it actually helps explain COVID and election denial. The failure of Democrats to recognize an objective fact, that Bush initiated the single largest Pre-COVID initiative against any epidemic and it remains extremely successful to this day. It's a close cousin to the aforementioned COVID and election cult of denial among Republicans. I caution fellow partisans of like-mind. Denialism can happen on both sides, and that is scary.

Can any Democrat acknowledge that Bush's decision has effectively rescued Sub-Saharan Africa from an AIDS catastrophe?

Leaving everything else he did at his feet, Iraq, torture, Katrina et al.

Can you acknowledge this?

So what? Does it make Iraq all okay? Does it change the history of Mesopotamia in any way

Hitler's regime saved the European Wisent from near certain extinction. Does that negate the second world war in Europe?

Bush may have been influential in slowing the spread of AIDS in Africa but I don't see how that changes anything about the wars of aggression and the deaths of hundreds of thousands for nothing more than his own aggrandizement. The man lied about the death totals and fired an aide who released the true figures.

Maybe he's lying about his involvement in Africa. Or twisting numbers to look better than he was?

Bush is a liar of consequence, his lies killed one million people. I don't believe much of anything he claims responsibility for.

Peddle that ---- elsewhere.

Giving Bush all the credit for the attempt to wipe out AIDS in Africa is just not true, Bill Clinton did more than anyone else in that effort. George W. Bush stated, while still Gov. of Texas, that if he was elected President he would take us to war in Iraq. Not because Iraq did anything to America but simply because "war time presidents have more power and he intended to use that power to privatize Social Security." 1,000,000 Iraqis died because of his need to be a war time president. He's no hero to me, he is a war criminal who should be in prison.
Watch "Green Zone" on Netflix, it is a great reintroduction to the war Bush lied us into. We must never forget that.
I think Liz Cheney has earned a little respect, time will tell how far she will let her patriotism kill her career in the Republican Party.

Rupert Murdock should be arrested for the murder of America...Although Reagan helped him by changing the laws by which 'news companies' operate...(look it up). That being said, we are now honoring the families of those that helped to tear it all down, simply because they are appalled at the level to which the lies and corruption have gone. We're they the ones on top now, instead of seeing their power wain, I doubt that they would be acting so honorably.

Bush s a war criminal and should be taken to court, found guilty of crimes against humanity and hung.

And on his grave, underneath "Started war on false pretenses that led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands, permanent physical and psychological damage to millions and an ongoing global humanitarian disaster with no end in sight" they can chisel, "son, brother, father, painter and AIDS crusader"
