Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, May 07, 2021

Nathan J. Robinson, Current Affairs: There are two facts that I have sometimes found it difficult to reconcile. The first is that Tesla, Inc. makes innovative and genuinely impressive electric vehicles that can hold their own against the fastest performance cars in the world. The second is that the CEO of Tesla, Inc., celebrated entrepreneurial genius Elon Musk, is a liar, huckster, and moron, who regularly says things so ignorant that I cannot understand how they can come from a human adult, let alone one treated by his fans as a super-genius.

On Twitter, Musk has become infamous for comments that are juvenile ("69 days after 420 again haha"), offensive ("I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare"), and flat out wrong (COVID is a "specific form of the common cold.") A former Tesla executive told Vanity Fair that "there were times Musk would say or tweet something that was just too embarrassing to even try to defend." At one point, "Twitter shut down his account, assuming it had been hacked," when Musk began posting "pictures of manga women with captions like 'im actually catgirl here's selfie' and solicitations to buy bitcoin." Musk's account was restored when he confirmed the posts were authentic.

Nope. More weight.

How much does it weigh in the beginning to consider the weight in the end?

Everybody loved Elon until they got to know him. All he had to do was tell you that you're saving the planet and corporations you don't know anything about besides a brand name are evil dinosaurs purposely holding technology back in concert with even more evil oil robber barons.

It worked so well the first part of what's posted here is still wrong. Teslas aren't quite performance cars. Performance is measured 0-100-0, and Teslas brake horribly and typically go into thermal protection after 1 or 2 drags on a 1/4 mile.

I tried to Buy a 2021 Chevy Bolt a few days ago by going on Chevy's website and doing a Build. That went well but when I tried to get my build from the dealer they said I would be
on the hook for $550 in window tinting and $399 ClearShield paint coating. If I demanded these be removed, they would add them back on in dollars by changing the APR. I walked.

Despite the fact that Elon doesn't sound like a corporate press representative, I can go on Teslas site (if I had the money) and do a Build and press Order. Simple as that.
Tesla's charging infrastructure is the best sales team they have.

That's because the Dealer added those to a "port" vehicle and you were matched up to it as it had everything else you wanted and those 2 things are not factory accessories. You can build to order from any manufacturer if you are willing to wait.

This is how Dell achieved dominance in the 90s. Instead of building computers and hoping someone buys them, Dell takes your money and then builds you a computer. They changed the business model from Net 90 billing to Net -8 billing.

That's amateur hour. Tesla can roll out a prototype that's not even close to street legal and get people to hand over millions of dollars to use as an interest free loan.

Yeah because that's what most car buyers care about.

Elon is a genius at some things, a moron at others.

He birthed paypal, spaceX, and the EV revolution, but he also endorsed kanye west for president, spread dangerous, lethal, covid denying propaganda, he thinks going to mars is a good use of resources, and he's forcing tesla to invest heavily in climate destroying bitcoin.

He's also been really dumb/deceptive about how easy it will be to make self driving cars and spread a lot of lies to investors about it.

To make up for this, he's beginning to try and distract people with really stupid changes to his cars so they can feel like they're in the future even if their car won't drive itself as he promised - so he gets rid of round steering wheels and puts in a yoke, which is inferior in nearly every way. He gets rid of the gear shifter and says AI will choose a gear for you. (AI controls their auto windshield wipers and they're the worst in the biz.)

I was planning on only buying teslas from now on, but these changes are moronic and will push me to another brand if tesla doesn't change course. Kia and Hyundai both have some amazing EVs coming out soon, and they'll include real steering wheels and gear selectors.

Chill. Saying anything good about Tesla is like a bat signal for Sitz.

Bingo. That's the key to their success. If other automakers invested in the charging network the way tesla did (meaning as if they actually want people to buy EVs) then tesla wouldnt be kicking their asses so badly.

Tesla is starting to sound like Apple.

They cut their teeth on a niche of innovation and real advancement.

But blew their load and ended up being another douche company maintaining stock prices by nickel and diming customers or over-selling crap.

Musk is a tool floated by devoted fan boys and effective marketing.

Unfortunately for the haters, Musk is usually right.

But let's ignore that. Look at what he has done with tesla, SpaceX and starling.

He has done more innovation in 20 years than the rest of the world combined.

#12 lol. Look at the post above. The dude almost killed PayPal and was sent off. SpaceX is built on Ansari X prize knowledge and talent but people act like it never happened. He bought Tesla, declared himself Founder, and wrote JB out of it. Musk fans are cultists more hardcore than Trumpers.

His genius is repacking ideas and saying Scale Up over and over again and building a cult around it.. Even speaks wanting to retort to me is silly as he has touted how great and fun the acceleration is and ignore the article is referencing it them as performance cars.

"His genius is repacking ideas and saying Scale Up over and over again"

Isn't that basically what Edison did?

#19 | Posted by sentinel at 2021-05-09 10:14 AM | Reply

I was referring to post #11, but Edison worked with Ford to build battery cars. As far as that 'key to success" of the massive charging network... te largest charging network in the US doesn't belong to Tesla. It's ChargePoint. Tesla would have you believe it's them though, great marketing.

"Musk fans are cultists more hardcore than Trumpers."

Naturally Musketeers are more hardcore.

Elon Musk while sounding crazy as a loon sometimes is actually producing something innovative and useful to other people. People like cool stuff!

Unlike Trumpy, who sounds like a crazy loon ALL the time, and produces nothing but more division hate and chaos.

Granted, some of you repugnant trumpers really like to produce that kind of "stuff", too.

People can be exceptional at some things and aweful at others. Some might consider Musk as suffering from afflictions; an autistic, sleep deprived, workaholic. But it takes that sort of person to accomplish what Musk has. A true American innovator.

His social skills are lacking, which is fine except he loves to be social.

I've been following reviews of the Mach-e Ford electric Mustang on YouTube. Blown away by constant failures of open market charging and the Mach-E firmware/UI.

Two examples:

I can give you dozens of examples of long Tesla lines and people waiting hours.

Try a gas pump, they're quick.

If you want hilarious charging problems, the Ferrari hybrid at $550k charges off of wall outlet 110v, but you can't use an extension cord or there's too much resistance to charge.

A contractors thick extension cord can overcome that limitation. Just go to a real hardware store that sells real extension cords that have realistic specs.
The limitation is not necessarily the length but the specified amperage rating at any length.

Telltale signs of the outlet, plug or the cord itself becoming hot is an underrated cord. Frequent fuse or circuit breaker openings without high heat at the cord is a sign of limited current handling
of the building wiring. Don't burn the place down by using materials like solid aluminum wiring and cheap outlets.

The better EV's have user defined current demand that limits amperage across the entire length of all wires, plugs and outlets.

No kidding. A lot of people burn out their power tools using cheap extension cords due to voltage loss.

I'll be impressed and convinced that we will get people on Mars for more than a one-off trip when Elon Musk demonstrates that he can build a working biodome on earth. A closed system has yet to be demonstrated.

That's a stupid semantic argument.

A car that can go from 0-60 in 4 seconds is a performance car by most reasonable people's definition, even if it doesn't make a loud noise or have all day track capability.
