Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Residents in Venice continue to voice their frustration over growing homeless encampments in the area they say are becoming increasingly dangerous. Eyewitness News obtained video of a homeless man being shot last week on the Venice Boardwalk, which also shows the shooter walk away while the victim moans in pain. The victim remains in the hospital in stable condition, and is not cooperating with police. Los Angeles police doesn't know who or where the gunman may be. The shooting took place at nearly the same spot where someone set fire to a tent. In that incident from earlier this week, video shows a small fiery explosion that ripped through a tent at an encampment. Bystanders were able to put the fire out with sand before firefighters arrived. Residents say they are the latest in a series of chaotic incidents that include fights and other fires.

"Sometimes around the beach they're more erratic," said resident Ruth Rumack. "I had a guy walk up on me with a sword. I don't really know what he was doing. I don't know if it was a real sword, but it was pretty scary."

Pay coyotes to sneak them into Mexico. Problem solved.

As usual Gracie shows the most vulnerable are merely political footballs to be exploited for cheap points.

Because you know, the homeless in CA are such a huge threat to her gated community in FL they must be highlighted to justify a dig at immigrants.

Gracie makes so many posts about California you'd think it was a dead celebrity.

Or how about we use our combined resources to help the most vulnerable and needy of our fellow Americans?
Why do you hate your countrymen so?

There are a lot of words I could use to describe the homeless people here in San Diego.
"Dangerous" is not one of of them.

"Eyewitness News obtained video of a homeless man being shot last week on the Venice Boardwalk"
Sounds like it's dangerous to be homeless.

"The shooting took place at nearly the same spot where someone set fire to a tent."

"Residents say they are the latest in a series of chaotic incidents that include fights and other fires."
I'm guessing the "residents" does not include any of the homeless residing in the area.

Meanwhile, in Oceanside,
Another Oceanside Homeless Encampment Covered With Rocks
www.kpbs.org

The protesters called the attempt to make the site inaccessible for homeless tents an "unkind solution."

Michael Gossman, Oceanside assistant city manager, said the rocks are placed for the safety of the people camping as well as nearby businesses and residents.

"We could've put up a fence. That would've been very costly. People underestimate the cost of a fence. It's also an eyesore and not necessarily what the businesses around there want to see," he said. "So instead we put in landscaping, hardscape, in the form of rocks. Those rocks are free."

In Salt Lake City, they found out that a homeless person costs the city on average $14,000 a year in everything from Emergency Room visits to court and jail time and cleanup.

For $10,000 a year, they could house them comfortably. The complexes had a doctor (bigly important - 1/4 have mental + others have plenty of issues) and I assume the temp people could post their usual daily job ads and stuff there.

The person responsible was never heard from again. The Mormons say he was Raptured, and they learned their lesson....

Remember when Joe Cole was shot and killed in Venice? The roommate mentioned in the article was Henry Rollins, who had a bullet whiz past his head by about an inch.
