Daily News Editorial Board: It's not often we celebrate an official who caused stock markets to plunge, but that's the least the nation owes Dr. Nancy Messonnier as she leaves government service.

It was Messonnier, the director of the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, who sounded an alarm and snapped the nation " or part of it, anyway " out of its stupor last Feb. 25 when, in a morning briefing with reporters, she said the following about what was then called the novel coronavirus, then responsible for 44 deaths outside of China and none in the United States: "Ultimately, we expect we will see community spread in the United States. It's not a question of if this will happen, but when this will happen, and how many people in this country will have severe illnesses."
The blunt diagnosis not only spooked investors; it sent Donald Trump into a rage, sparking an administration-wide scurry to reassure the country that, no, actually, this little virus would be no big deal. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and economic adviser Larry Kudlow proclaimed the would-be plague "contained." Trump tried to get Messonnier fired, and four days later he stood alongside other top officials and proclaimed, "Whatever the circumstance, we're prepared."

Dr. Messonier made the 3am phone call and the 300 lb orange plague rat completely ignored it. The genocidal dotard should rot in prison for sentencing 900,000 Americans to death.

Feb 25 marks the exact moment in time the CDC knew COVID-19 was present in the wild in the United States:

"On 26 February, what seems like ages ago in the ongoing pandemic, the University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento finally got RNA test results confirming that a critically ill patient it had been treating for a week had coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). (It took 4 days before the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention agreed to evaluate the patient samples because the person did not meet the strict criteria the agency then had in place, and 3 more days for the result to come back.)"

This lady got a raw deal, but it could have been worse. If she were working for Nixon, she would have been shot in the street. In the case of the Dotard administration, no one was smart enough to handle a firearm...

To Hell with Donald Trump.
--------------------------

At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, "Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you."
He replied, "Go tell that fox, "I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal."
"In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day--for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!"

--Luke 13:31-33 (NIV)
