Three dollar store chains will make up almost half of all the new stores opening up in the United States this year, a reflection of the dollar store sector's outsized growth in the retail industry as other chains close shops or stop building new ones. About 45% of the 3,597 store openings that large retail chains in the United States have announced so far this year are from Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, according to the latest figures from Coresight Research, a firm that aggregates the numbers from company filings and press releases.

I've spent a lot of the past 5 years or so of my semi-retirement cruising the back roads and small towns of the East, SouthEast, and Mid-West and some SouthWest. I can attest that Dollar General stores are absolutely ubiquitous. Oftentimes it's the only food store and usually the only business at all in a tiny town.

Five-and-dime stores, such as Woolworth's, used to be a major part of retailing. These dollar stores are really the successor to the five-and-dime stores.

Groeries are higher here at Dollar General. The poor saps around here think they get a bargain but 9 times out of 10 they don't.

I am a fan of Dollar Tree. Limited selection but wins big on price.

Sure, who needs fresh fruit? You can live on a total diet of high fructose corn syrup.

Has been an excellent stock to own if got in early. Currently over 220 a share and should continue to go up as they continue to expand.

#1 | POSTED BY JPW AT 2021-05-09 02:14 AM | FLAG: For years now there has been a lack of correlation between the Market and the economy - EXAMPLE: remember as the market slowly rose the obama years at the same time the economy was tepid and people were actually dropping off the unemployment rolls as their time for benefits ran out? If you do not remember that, just Google it.

Sign on the door of a Dollar General in Eliot, ME:

"Closed indefinitely because Dollar General doesn't pay a living wage or treat their employees with respect." Also on the door is another sign reading, "Capitalism will destroy this country. If you don't pay people enough to live their lives, why should they slave away for you?"

Looks like the workers at the Dollar General in Eliot, Maine have had enough! #Solidarity pic.twitter.com/7JNDFcKwnc

These --------- pop up and the local grocers go out of business because of the processed canned crap that they sell. They end up costing the community dearly with unhealty foods, depressed wages and a swath of local businesses that close.

Heck, I saw one town that was so poor, they only had a Dollar Lieutenant store.
