So are we counting folks who won't be coming back to work or is that only when we have a black president?

"declining courier numbers"

Does this mean Uber Eats drivers and the like? I didn't know those people counted as employees to begin with. Here in California their, uh, employers spent hundreds of millions to make sure that they are not.

Why work when the government will provide reasonable compensation while still letting you utilize your time as you see fit?

Here's the math using fractional accounting.

If you made $600 working $40 hours a week pre-COVID, then the value of your hour is $15. That's the amount at which you will trade that hour for money. Currently, the average cash unemployment benefits come out to around $700 a week, depending on the state.

So, given that the value of your time is worth $15 and hour, and the government is giving you $17.50 per hour, you would expect a reasonable offer for employment would need to offer $32.50 per hour. Or $1300 per week. Or just under $68k per year.
