Why did the male pilot get the Distinguished Flying Cross while the female pilot got only an airmanship medal? They both accomplished the same thing, savings the plane while avoiding killing themselves.

Those are one of the best planes the US has built. They are hard to destroy for sure. My cousin was a mechanic on them until he retired from the service and now he is a consultant on them and other planes.

Seems like the 30mm canon may have some sort of maintenance related issue if 2 of them blew up causing both these canopyless landings.
