SCOTUS rules 9-0 against permanent residency for illegal immigrants living in the U.S. for humanitarian reasons. Last November 81,000,000 Americans voted for a policy that went 9-0 against them in the Supreme Court today.

They entered the Country illegally.

From the article...

...Justice Elena Kagan wrote for the court that federal immigration law prohibits people who entered the country illegally and now have Temporary Protected Status from seeking "green cards" to remain in the country permanently....

If you do not like the decision, then change the law.

I do not disagree with the decision.

These immigrants are coming here in hopes of finding jobs picking fruit. The anti-immigrants are the most ignorant generation of people who could be educated but still not know anything.

All 9 SCOTUS Justices are anti-immigrants who do not know anything? That's what you're saying.

@#4 ... These immigrants are coming here in hopes of finding jobs picking fruit. The anti-immigrants are the most ignorant generation of people who could be educated but still not know anything. ...

There's so much that I see as wrong in that comment.

For starters, the immigrants of this thread are in the Country illegally.

And then, why have we based our economy upon those who are in the Country illegally?

And finally to characterize those who disagree with your comments as "the most ignorant generation", well, you and I have a substantial disagreement.

"And then, why have we based our economy upon those who are in the Country illegally?"

Only parts of the economy. The ones that business owners find easiest to exploit workers.

@#7 ... Only parts of the economy. The ones that business owners find easiest to exploit workers. ...

Significant parts of the economy.

The business owners like to employ the illegal immigrants for a multiltude of reasons. Among them..

  1. the lower wages they need to pay
  2. the ability to have poor and dangerous working conditions because the employers know the workers cannot report problems. If the workers do report problems, they will be deported. The employers like that, and that seems to be a big reason to employ immigrants instead of Americans.

When you need a new roof on your house and vegetables rise in price to triple the current price don't say I didn't warn you. And Lamp, I'm sorry, but I used to respect many of your opinions but something has changed you into a virtual Republican and I just don't agree with much of anything you say anymore. Claiming these immigrants are "illegal" is a little bit insane when you consider the waves of immigration we have absorbed which enabled us to grow our nation and our economy. Can anyone make an argument here that, so called, illegal immigrants, aren't benefiting our nation and our economy? Reality bites and Americans are quick to bite the hand that, literally, feeds them.
Opposition to immigrants, legal or illegal, is just a buy in to right wing talking points. There is no factual bases for that prejudice.

"How many on welfare?"

Read for five minutes and understand that you don't really know crap about illegal immigration because you are an ignorant hater and they are an easy target for you and Trump.
For a man who was born with a silver spoon up his ass Trump seems to think he earned his place in this world. Hell, his own wife was an illegal immigrant when she first came to this country. Yet you think those of us with the capacity to actually think are going to agree with your xenophobic hatred of anyone that can't pass the "paper bag test" or its equivalent concerning Mexicans and others from Central America, specifically Guatemala.

Just admit it Danni, you're for open borders when it benefits you. I've seen you brag on here how you've paid 'those people' to do work for you because they do it faster and cheaper (which means it was probably done under the table and/or without permits required by local codes). It's clear that you have a notion that people on a certain side of a "paper bag test" are there to keep the costs down of picking your fruit, cleaning your toilets, and being your little workers.

I disagree with that characterization. Most of them voted specifically to get rid of one person. Their vote wasn't about an immigration policy

Maybe we should make an exception when we are the ones who broke their country...

Just saying...

#17, maybe you could make a list of all the groups of people who should be exempt from laws because of wrongs purportedly committed against other people before many of them were born. Is there a paper bag test involved?

#18 | Posted by sentinel at 2021-06-08 10:32 AM | Reply

When I needed a new roof last year I put it on myself...by myself. And there isn't anyone from south of the border that could have done it better or faster.
If people want cheap shoddy work go ahead and hire whoever but you get what you pay for and sometimes not even that.

So your solution to immigration is that americans who are working 2 jobs to pay their rent just start farming their own food.

Thinking everyone can do what you did is republicans thinking. Lacking the intelligence to imagine circumstances other than your own is republican thinking.

Thinking everyone can do their own construction and farm their own food while struggling to feed their families and pay for their kids healthcare and education is republican thinking.

Democrat thinking is - hardworking people easy need access to affordable healthy food, healthcare, and education.

So you think you know my circumstances?? Perhaps you're not as smart as you think you are.
My initial comment was to the long time smarta$$ Danni who seems to think that only immigrants can do construction or farming. Maybe she thinks like you that poor Americans are too dumb and lazy for that. That elitist liberal attitude is the exact reason so much of poor white America lined up behind Trump and the Republicans...even though it defies logic.
The reason I put my own roof on and just finished painting my house is I couldn't afford to hire someone. If I want it done I have to learn how, put in the effort and get it done myself.
See I am one of those hard-working people struggling to make ends meet...you know the ones you pretend to care about but in reality don't give a damn about.

Right. One of the dumb ones who keeps voting for the people who make your financial problems worse.

How did you feel when you learned trump's tax cuts for the rich were huge and permanent, but his tax cuts for you were small and temporary?

Wrong again genius.
I can't stand the guy. He's a horrible person and did nothing for this country as president.
I'm just pointing out why so many did gravitate to him. They know that liberals loathe them and you've shown that today.
I don't often vote for Republicans but I did vote for Tom Rice.

"I'm not a trump supporter. I just elect his cult of defenders and enablers who keep him from being held accountable for his crimes and are pushing to end democracy and install right wing fascism"

Liberals don't loathe anyone who is not actively harming innocent people. If liberals loathe you, it's because you're an -------. If republicans loathe you, it's because youre NOT an -------.

You're about as horrible a person as Trump, and that's saying a lot. In fact you're a whole lot like him...anyone who doesn't agree with you 100% is immediately mocked and dehumanized.

You don't know anything about me other than I don't want open borders so that makes me a Trump supporting cultist and a defender of everything Republican...except I've said nothing of the sort.

I know a couple things about you - you vote for republicans so you offer second hand support to trump.

You buy the "dems want open borders" lies, so you're pretty gullible.

Just like Trump...you sure you ain't a Trumptard?
I said I don't often vote for Republicans...it's right there in my post.
I vote for the person not the party so I'd say you're the gullible one because you give blind loyalty to a party and anyone who puts the D by their name.
I mentioned Rice since he's the last Republican I voted for and he was one of those who voted to impeach Trump, FYI.

ScottE I have a question about voting for the person, not the party.

I was wondering if you could give me some examples.

I only look at the person in terms of their ability to carry out the policy.

But it's the policy I care about. The person is just a tool.

Just trying to understand where you are coming from, since you have it the other way.

The modern republican party is a fascist cult of morons. If you can't vote against it universally, you're not too bright.

I don't give blind loyalty to any party. I give my vote to whoever most opposes the fascist cult and their agenda.

The problem of course are the small children brought over by their parents and who then live and grow up into adulthood here in the USA. They speak fluent English. They went to American schools. Their worldview is an American worldview.
Whether we like it or not, those grown kids are Americans. By any moral or common sense standard, they need to be granted permanent status.

I'd agree, but on the condition that their parents and/or anyone who facilitated in bringing them into the country illegally be charged with human trafficking, which should also be a moral common sense standard.
