But his vote won't overcome a fillibuster so he's just grandstanding, fully knowing his vote won't change anything but he'll look like a loyal Democrat for one day. It will be good for his image but we all know, deep down, he's a Republican.

"But his vote won't overcome a fillibuster so he's just grandstanding."

I disagree, for his voters, Manchin has to be caught trying to be bipartisan. He is laying the predicate for either relaxing the filibuster for constitutional issues, or working toward a talking filibuster, where opponents of a bill would have to have all 41 members opposed to a bill present, and holding the floor as long as possible, or maybe lowering the threshold to 55. Something will happen, he was reportedly very disturbed and unhappy with the GQP's rejection of the 1/6 commission. The rejection of this very good compromise measure will be another nail in the current filibuster's coffin.

The filibuster is going done sooner or later but hopefully before 2022. It just needs to happen. It isn't in the Constitution. It was invented by John C. Calhoun in an attempt to defend slavery. The filibuster is just a tool to defeat majority rule as are most of the efforts of the Republican Party. Kill the filibuster, take away Bitch Mcconnel's stanglehold on democracy once and for all. That one man prevents efforts on many fronts just because he wields the power of the filibuster, take it away from him and he will be a powerless, piece of filth, relegated to
the scrap heap of formerly powerful politicians.
I'll just add this, even Republicans hate him as much as I do and you know it. CAn anyone love Bitch McConnell????
I don't think so.

It isn't in the Constitution.

So what.

Neither is the majority of case law that effects our day to day life.

Don't be a simpleton requiring everything be explicitly stated in the Constitution in order to be implemented.

Or else admit Roe should go.

It was invented by John C. Calhoun in an attempt to defend slavery. The filibuster is just a tool to defeat majority rule as are most of the efforts of the Republican Party.

The filibuster is a useful tool for use as a check on majority power. That is the primary reason it should be maintained.

Otherwise you'll be kicking yourself when the Dems are entirely helpless against the GOP in a few years.

What makes you think McConnell won't get rid of it?

He might.

But I'd rather be disarmed fighting than throw away my only weapon before it even starts.

DANNI,

The filibuster is just a tool to defeat majority rule as are most of the efforts of the Republican Party. Kill the filibuster

how the Dems have short memories. I remember when the Dems LOVED the filibuster when they were the minority. again hypocrites

just one more example

Barack Obama said, "We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country."

when Trump wanted to defend the Border BAD hypocrites

Dems, it's right in front of you, pay attention
