Defeating this pandemic and the highly contagious Delta variant isn't just about protecting yourself through vaccination -- it's also about having others in the community vaccinated, doctors say.

I was honestly shocked when I found some people I am close to had no intention of getting vaccinated - they are not Trumpists/GQP types either. Just blows my mind. I don't know how otherwise intelligent people can be so willfully ignorant. This is going to be the 3rd big wave and people still don't grasp it.

"Getting a Covid-19 Vaccine Protects Everyone Around You"

Least effective argument to convince a GOPher possible.

The GOOP cares not a whit about anyone other than themselves.

Remember Poppy Bush talking about how he was a 'compassionate Conservative'? Those days are long dead and buried. One of the things MAGA-heads love most about their feckless leader is that he has freed them to say what they want and act how they please, and anyone who doesn't agree or like it can go straight to hell. These self-centered cretins have been able to throw off the cloak of phony evangelism, have been given free rein to lay hands on women other than their wives, call people whatever nasty names they have suppressed for most of their lives, openly cheat on their taxes, cross against the walk light and urinate in public.

Getting vaccinated is an act of self-protection and an act of compassion for one's fellow man. Some people just don't get that...

I hope beyond hope many rethugs get the Delta variant and are permanently disabled from it. Teach them a lesson!

Exactly right.

Those conservatives refusing the vaccine aren't concerned about protecting those around them. They are only concerned about protecting themselves from perceived problems with the vaccine, based completely out of fear derived from misinformation. Conservatives are selfish in practically every way.

Every man for himself.

Not trusting the vaccine is only an excuse. The real reason they're not getting it is because liberals are getting it. THey are brainwashed to opposed liberals no matter what. So if liberals created a vaccine and are taking the vaccine, it's their duty to refuse it, no matter what consequences are.

Plus trump put them on the covid denial train from the beginning, so getting vaccinated is an admission that trump is a liar. They'd rather die and kill their families than do that.

#8 | Posted by SpeakSoftly at 2021-07-12 01:56 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

At this point, I don't have any sympathy for anyone who refuses to get the vaccine outside of a legitimate medical reason. If they're willing to die to own the libz, let them. If they have to suffer with long-term health problems, and can't afford insurance, let them suffer without insurance, too. The consequences of their actions and political choices aren't a secret.

#9 | Posted by chuffy at 2021-07-12 04:39 PM | Reply

Anyone too stupid to not get the vaccine that their lord and savior, Donald Trump, singlehandedly manifested through his godly powers deserves to get the hoax virus.

#10 | Posted by chuffy at 2021-07-12 04:42 PM | Reply

Except for one comment everyone here is painting the unvaccinated as Republican. That's not the case. There are those on the left and folks who are apolitical that aren't getting it for some reason.

Blacks and Hispanics continue to lag behind Whites in vaccination rates...you telling me they're mostly Republican.

More "both sides" crap from the usual suspects.

"The poll found that while 86% of Democrats have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, only 45% of Republicans have."

Yes, there is some vaccine hesitancy amongst some Dems. No one ever expects 100% of any group to do anything of their own volition. But this difference is starkly political. If the Dem rate were the American rate, we'd be at close to herd immunity right now. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

Polls/surveys are for the most part are crap especially when they come from a media source with a proven bias.

Who was polled...How many...How did you contact them...What question(s) were asked? If that information isn't in the article you can bet it's --------.

#18 | Posted by ScottE at 2021-07-13 10:58 AM | Reply

But I'm sure it will be explained away. Rednecks aren't getting it because of Trump......minorities aren't getting it because....well, probably Trump as well.

Who knows why stupid rednecks do anything? While Trumpy hasn't helped with all his conspiracy theories and lies I blame beer and Fox News. A really bad mix.

You would think they would be lining up to get shots because their lord and savior Dear Leader has taken the shot. Tho he did it in secret for some weird reason.

As for blacks and minorities not trusting the government can you blame them? After decades of Republican propaganda that the government is the problem and can't be trusted and then add in Tuskegee and government sterilization Progrommes and stir ...

what did you expect?

I remember reading an article last fall of these anti-maskers whining and crying when they are about to be intubated that "Trump told them they could get the magic drugs" that he got free of charge.

The title was something about Trump supporters yell and scream demanding the magic cures until they can't scream anymore because they are intubated.

I am looking at the latest immunization records of over 350k people and the vast majority of unvaccinated are in fact, white.

A lot of the people who won't get vaccinated still don't think covid is that bad. The way the Trump administration billed the pandemic as mainly a blue state problem because the NE and CA were hit first and hardest has caused a lot of people in red states around the country to see themselves as being somehow protected from the virus in a way that people in blue states weren't/aren't.

Here is something I found.....
www.kff.org
"As observed in prior weeks, Black and Hispanic people have received smaller shares of vaccinations compared to their shares of cases and compared to their shares of the total population in most states. The share of vaccinations received by Black people also continues to be smaller than their share of deaths in most states..."
But I'm sure it will be explained away. Rednecks aren't getting it because of Trump......minorities aren't getting it because....well, probably Trump as well.
LOL

Also from that article:

"However, CDC data also show that recent vaccinations are reaching larger shares of Hispanic, Asian, and Black populations. Thirty-four percent of vaccines administered in the past 14 days have gone to Hispanic people, 6% to Asian people, and 12% to Black people (Figure 1). These recent trends suggest a narrowing of racial gaps in vaccinations at the national level, particularly for Hispanic people, who have recently received a larger share of vaccinations compared to their share of the total population (34% vs. 17%). While these data provide helpful insights at a national level, to date, CDC is not publicly reporting state-level data on the racial/ethnic composition of people vaccinated."

#25 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2021-07-13 01:14 PM | Reply

Also form KFF website (report from June 11 so it is a bit out of date):

Compared To Those Who Have Received A COVID-19 Vaccine, Unvaccinated Adults Are Younger, Less Educated, More Likely To Be Republicans, People Of Color, And Uninsured

There are strong partisan differences in vaccine intentions with almost half (49%) of unvaccinated adults identifying as Republicans or Republican-leaning independents, compared to three in ten (31%) vaccinated adults. On the other hand, Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents make up a majority of the vaccinated population (about six in ten), while about three in ten in the unvaccinated population identify as Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents.

Compared to vaccinated adults, smaller shares of White adults are unvaccinated, with no significant differences for Black and Hispanic adults on whether they have received at least one-dose so far, despite Black and Hispanic adults lagging in vaccination rates compared to Whites. Around two-thirds (64%) of vaccinated adults are White, compared to 56% of unvaccinated adults. With difficulty accessing vaccine locations and services disproportionately impacting the non-White population, current outreach continues to strive to bridge the gap.

So maybe the outreach is being somewhat successful:

June 11 report: "With difficulty accessing vaccine locations and services disproportionately impacting the non-White population, current outreach continues to strive to bridge the gap."

July 6 report: "However, CDC data also show that recent vaccinations are reaching larger shares of Hispanic, Asian, and Black populations."

"But what I expected the most was that ridiculous response full of deflections and rationalizations to defend your position that it's fine that democrats don't get vaccinated (they don't trust the govt) but rednecks not getting vaccinated are the entire problem."

No, some Democrats aren't getting vaccinated. Some of that was due to lack of access (problem is being addressed) and some of it is due to vaccine hesitancy (problem is also being addressed by having trusted community members going door to door). A big difference between Democrats and Republicans, as I see it, is that you don't have many prominent Democratic politicians and pundits speaking out against vaccinations the way some prominent Republican politicians and pundits are.

Morons leading the morons. Again.

#30 | Posted by donnerboy at 2021-07-13 02:11 PM | Reply

I'm not making excuses for anyone. Lack of access and vaccine hesitancy are likely why some Republicans aren't getting vaccinated. Republican politicians and pundits who aren't working to combat those problems and are at times are acting to reinforce them instead is a major difference I see between the parties.

#33 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2021-07-13 02:27 PM | Reply

And the majority of vaccinated are in fact white.....
Duh...how can they be the majority of vaccinated and unvaccinated???? Duh...Duh

Some of these folks, just ridiculous.

#36 | Posted by ScottE at 2021-07-13 03:05 PM | Reply

The lack of access is the weakest of all arguments. They're giving them free, on demand at any medical clinic or pharmacy that I know of..

#37 | Posted by ScottE at 2021-07-13 03:07 PM | Reply

Early on not everyone could walk or take public transportation to an urban vaccination site. Not everyone could stand in line, especially outside, at a large urban site either. Access isn't just distance from a vaccination site. Access includes being able to take time off from work, having childcare, etc. This would apply to urban and rural voters.

#39 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2021-07-13 03:23 PM | Reply

I've donated to Lyft for someone to get a ride to and from a vaccine, I can't do anything about getting them time off work though.

Around here there are places that offer vaccines 7 days a week it took my wife a couple extra weeks to get a vaccine because of her work schedule but she found a place doing them on Sunday's and got it done. Unless you work 7 days a week 10 hours a day it is possible to get one around work, you just have to try.

#40 | Posted by TaoWarrior at 2021-07-13 03:29 PM | Reply

If you reread my earlier post, I didn't say Republicans who weren't vaccinated didn't have issues with lack of access or with vaccine hesitancy. I only talked about how these issues affected Democrats while indicating how these issues are being addressed.

#41 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2021-07-13 03:30 PM | Reply

#40 Yes, now access of all kinds is available, which is one reason why I think vaccination rates have increased in minority groups (post #26 & 27).

#42 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2021-07-13 03:34 PM | Reply

PS They have home vaccination visits as well for the homebound, so perhaps stay at home moms without childcare could access a program like that.

Some of you are attributing to me things I never said. Par for the course, I guess.

#43 | Posted by Gal_Tuesday at 2021-07-13 03:37 PM | Reply

#40 as i understand it, some people are concerned about missing work if they get bad side effects. Again, this could apply to all kinds of people, across the board.

Fair point I didn't think about the missing work due to side effects. I imagine a lot of the people who have trouble getting to or scheduling a vaccine don't have a ton of sick days available.

There is a very tight correlation between Trump support in a state and vaccination rate.

As for blacks and hispanics, those are traditionally underserved populations. Nothing like white folks refusing to get the vaccine because they still think COVID is a hoax.
