This is the sort of think that will defeat Republicans despite voter suppression.

This, and the fact they don't mind watching their own voters die.

It is amazing what having competency in the White House will accomplish.

It is amazing what having competency in the White House will accomplish.

What's more amazing is that a significant portion of those who feel this way will vote for more destructive GOP "governance."

Or... more likely, this is the kind of think that will make Democrats complacent, and allow Republicans to regain power.

WHATSLEFT

"Or... more likely, this is the kind of think that will make Democrats complacent, and allow Republicans to regain power."

America does seem to be self-defeating about every eight years. It's almost like a country that can't stand its own prosperity. But then we've never had a president as deceitful and scurrilous as Donald Trump before. He left some deep and lasting scar on America's psyche. I don't look for that to heal overnight.

What was considered unimaginable just a few short years ago suddenly turned into stark reality as the real objectives driving the Trump presidency became crystal clear. I still don't think America has come to terms yet with how that happened. We just weren't prepared to believe what we've been taught all our lives was impossible. Not here. Not America!

Now we're in a battle as old as time itself . . good vs evil. Trump himself has opened the door for President Biden's optimism. I think this country is more than ready to go back to being ourselves again and yes, even complacent but older and wiser for the experience.

It's all fixed now! Give rich people tax cuts and elect another reality tv star!

this is the kind of think that will make Democrats complacent,

Let's not forget the puritopian demands of the far left progressives who will sit on the hands in 2022 because Biden didn't give exactly everything they wanted and will blame Biden for not getting Joe Manchin on board with the liberal agenda.

Let's not forget the bipartisan asperations of the Neolibs, who seemingly have no problem with the fact that it takes 7 million more left leaning voters to get a Democrat elected POTUS. Or with the fact that Republicans represent 40 million less people, even though they still control 50% of the Senate.

Or maybe both are correct and we just need to all vote and vote Dem every single election to have the luxury of such debates.

A new Gallup poll finds that 59.2% of Americans say they're thriving.

No they didn't say that at all. A panel selected by Gallup of about 4200 people rated their current situation on a scale of 1-10. Gallup decided if they were thriving, struggling, or suffering based on the number given.

Am I the only one who thinks that 59% of Americans saying they are thriving doesn't sound right?

It's the Clinton News Network, so there's that.

And of course miserable Trumpers have to show up to explain why this really isn't true.

Because everybody must be miserable Trumpers like them.

Once again with the -------- labels.

Where in my post or any post I've made show any support for Trump?

Exactly...another troll who has nothing of substance to add to the discussion.

#15 - oh. So you didn't vote for Trump? Interesting datapoint. Care to confirm? I hate assuming anything about folks.

#16 | Posted by YAV at 2021-07-13 10:02 PM | Reply

Yav,

No! I did not vote for Trump, I voted against him. I'm not a Biden fan but he got my vote because I wanted Trump out of the White House.

Likewise I voted for Jaime Harrison to unseat Lindsey Graham, but that didn't happen.

So there you have it. Feel free to refer back to this post anytime.

And I still find it hard to believe that 59% of Americans think they are thriving. I don't care who's the president.

#17 | Posted by ScottE at 2021-07-13 11:03 PM | Reply

I appreciate you setting us straight on that, Scotte. Like I said, I don't like assuming, and I'll keep that in mind next time I disagree with you. :)

Joe Biden is pretty much our Moses, which is amusing giving that he's old enough to have met Moses.

I'll see myself out...

So you can't show any statements I've made supporting Trump?

It seems if you don't hold the same opinion on every topic as the majority here you must be on the other side. That's why the two party system sucks. It's impossible to truly represent the diversity that is America.

#22 | Posted by ScottE at 2021-07-14 10:32 AM | Reply

#17 The 59% is a data point in a trend. The important thing is that the trend is up and highest in 10 years. The thriving label is subjective.
The trend going up after Trump/Covid may just be relief that a plague has passed.

#23 | Posted by bored at 2021-07-14 10:58 AM | Reply

Nicely done, Bored.
That's exactly the point. The reference frame, year-over-year, and consistent application of method.

#24 | Posted by YAV at 2021-07-14 11:30 AM | Reply

I get what he's saying but that wasn't my point. The people didn't say they were thriving they picked a number on a scale and Gallup decided subjectively that 7-10 meant you were thriving.

Why not ask people directly, right now do you consider yourself thriving, struggling, or suffering?

For one it would point out that there's no category between struggling and thriving which doesn't make sense. I would think the largest category of folks would consider themselves between struggling and thriving but that's not even a choice.

#25 | Posted by ScottE at 2021-07-14 01:59 PM | Reply

I guess they don't watch right wing news very much because according to them we have never had such a dark future.

#26 | Posted by 503jc69 at 2021-07-14 02:12 PM | Reply

#25 - I get that, but as long as the use the same method and compare year to year, the data's all I care about. Not the words used to surround it.

So you can't show any statements I've made supporting Trump?

I'm not claiming you made them.

Just saying why the assumption was made.

It seems if you don't hold the same opinion on every topic as the majority here you must be on the other side.

It's an easy assumption to make given how binary our politics currently are.

You've explained it and I'll do my best to remember that in the future.

Just seeing roads full of traffic, stores full of unmasked people and restaurants with crowds is enough to feel we have turned a corner... hopefully the anti-vaxxers won't bring us back down.

"Where in my post or any post I've made show any support for Trump?"

Well, you don't believe in White Privilege, just like a Trumper.

And you accuse people who do believe in it of being brainwashed, just like a Trumper.

And you ignore evidence of White Privilege that you don't like, just like a Trumper.

It seems that you're bigoted and prejudiced against minorities, just like a Trumper.

Are you really blind to all that, just like a Trumper?

"we have an adjustment coming"

We have Delta coming.
Thanks, Republicans.
You built that!

#32 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-15 10:14 AM | Reply

Eberly, you don't think Republicans politicians are pushing for economic collapse, at the behest of their wealthy financiers, who can then pick up the pieces for pennies on the dollar?

We just had a guy like that in the White House. You think it was an anomaly?

COVID is just one example of how Republican policies deliberately harm the economy. And Republicans across Red states are just letting it wash over them. Why would that be the policy, if not the reason I stated?

#34 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-15 10:23 AM | Reply

It's not a conspiracy. It's happening in plain view. Republicans aren't secretly plotting to let COVID kill millions.
Republicans aren't secretly plotting to end the eviction moratorium and limit unemployment. Quite the opposite, they're open about it, and proud of it.

Since you can't accept my explanation, maybe you'd like to tell me why they are doing all those things that will obviously cause harm to Americans and the American economy.

Or maybe you're not really capable of having a conversation about Republican policies.

I'm with SCOTTE - that 59% number seems high. Surviving? Definitely. Getting better? Sure. Thriving? WTAF? Unemployment and underemployment are both out of control. I know people who haven't recovered from the LAST recession when Obama wound up appeasing Repubicans and failed to address the housing crisis...I am definitely NOT in that 59% and don't know many who are. Sure, folks are getting by, and some are doing well, but like SCOTTE, I find that 59% number to be worthy of skepticism...
