Despite the popular belief that residents are fleeing California, there is not in fact a statewide exodus, new research out of the University of California finds.

More from the article...

...For one, while residents are moving out of state, they are not doing so at "unusual rates." Similarly, the research found no evidence of "millionaire flight" from California and notes that the state continues to attract as much venture capital as all other U.S. states combined, despite the recent exodus of Hewlett-Packard and Oracle.

The report did reveal net migration out of San Francisco during the pandemic. However, about two-thirds of people who left the city remained in the Bay Area, while 80% stayed in California, which is consistent with earlier trends....

If a DR righty tighty is discussing CA you can be pretty sure they are lying about something. I think lies about California are republicl0wn pornography. It makes them horny.

Oh and BTW... Trumpybunkerboi lost and left office in disgrace.

The Righties talk about California they have to say negative things to lessen the comparisons between the California life style and the life styles in "work for nothing" states.

Snoofy has spoken at length about the lifestyle. You can't afford a home, there's nodded out junkies in public bathrooms, the weather is nice, and it increasingly looks like Elysium.

You can throw this myth on the trash heap of other right wing myths of:

Tax cuts create jobs.
Tax cuts increase revenue.
Tax cuts increase investment.
Cadillac welfare queens.
Food stamps drive the budget deficit.

LOL. You liberals are funny.

You think that if you just say something, it becomes true. Nope. Sorry.

People are leaving California at incredible rates. I dont need to post links, you can google.

But to the articles point, it's probably more pronounced if you control for certain cities like SF, LA and whatever liberal -------- is in CA. People are leaving THERE in droves. North CA, probably not so much..

Hey Boaz0. You have a credibility problem in the DR.
For instance, you are wrong about this... just like you were about Trumptibunkerboi.

aaaannnnnd your boy lost.... really really bad! I mean really bad. I mean cathedral bells from Notre Dame bad... He left office an international disgrace... just like your stupid opinions about CA.

If you google the topic, all stories seem to be in conflict with this study. How does UC reconcile this discrepancy? Here is a blurb from one of the dozens of stories that come up on google:

"SACRAMENTO, Calif. " California's population fell by more than 182,000 last year, the first yearly loss ever recorded for the nation's most populous state that halted a growth streak dating to its founding in 1850 on the heels of a gold rush that prompted a flood of people to seek their fortune in the West."

www.nbcnews.com

This data is from the US Census Bureau. The UC study is basically saying the US Census Bureau is mistaken. They failed to prove that point in their study.

California is losing a seat in Congress based on the Census Bureau's numbers. Surely if the UC study had any significance, there would be an uproar for that reason alone. Or do the people of California not care if they lose a congressional vote?

Hey Bozo, the Drumpf census, which purposely undercounted hard to reach communities like the homeless and undocumented immigrants showed that CA GAINED two million residents. With all these repressive laws the TX GQP are passing and with a failing power grid I suspect we'll see an exodus of smart people who can move from TX, that state is now officially Xtian Taliban territory. People who love freedom of choice, freedom from Covid will be moving to blue states like CA.

I can't afford a home on what I make, but if there were two of us, it would be arguably within reach.

And junkies are everywhere; California doesn't get any sort of extra demerits for that.

Zappa was right about Californians being "Flakes." Well, maybe not the Mexicans. But the white people who are from there have no soul.

"The UC study is basically saying the US Census Bureau is mistaken."

Homeless people are hard for the Census to count. So are undocumented immigrants. California has a high proportion of both.

Austin has flirted with the junkie problem and they're swapping out their compassion for clean streets.

The study says minorities still believe in the California Dream. White, middle-class people, not so much.

#15 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2021-07-15 11:34 AM | Reply

#12 - why is the state silent about this? If what you say is true, California would not be losing a congressional seat. I think it would be in the state's best interest to prove the validity of your point.

#16 | Posted by jakester at 2021-07-15 11:35 AM | Reply

California is overpopulated anyways... they could lose 10 million people and still as populated as Texas.

Just tell them to stop coming to Oregon, we have too many people already and your jacking up our housing prices.

All big cities are full of junkies, even the few run by Republicans.

All of America is full of junkies and homeless people. Red, blue, it doesn't matter. In fact, some of the worst Fentanyl and meth OD rates are in the reddest of counties.

Considering that its already been running for 40 years, the "war on drugs" is a significant failure.

One of the things I love about America is the differences between the states. I don't get the compulsion many people have to homogenize the U.S. and make everything the same. If you hate the state you are in (the weather, the politics, the people) by golly MOVE to one you like.

Poll ... ..if you were forced to choose a state to remain in for the rest of your life, with no opportunity to travel elsewhere, which state would you choose and why?

I would choose. North Carolina, it's got the ocean and the mountains, moderate weather, southern manners.

The biggest problem california faces isn't caused by liberals, it's caused by conservatives not listening to liberals and preventing liberals from fixing it - climate change. If you buy property outside the city, it's only a matter of time before it's destroyed by fire, we no longer get enough rain to replenish our reservoirs, and when it does rain it's massive downpours that cause fatal mudslides.

The Raleigh-Durham area is listed by US News & World Report as the 2nd best place in America to live (after Boulder, CO). It's the new East-coast "Silicon Valley". But (thanks to supply and demand) the cost of housing is now going through the roof. My house has appreciated $75,000 in the last year, gentrification is building $million townhomes where there used to be 900 sqft bungalows (occupied by black/brown people). Population growth is crazy (we got one of those Congressional seats CA lost). And it's turning bluer by the day.

I would go back and help my fellow Virginians. Except for the fact that I actually like California. Very much. Especially Northern California. The Real California. Where Real Californians retreated to when the beaches down south were paved over with parking lots. B I can still go to the beach here and and look for miles in both directions and be the only human on the beach. Gonna enjoy that while it lasts.

Anyway it looks like Virginia is doing just fine without me lately.
