Biden's bipartisan infrastructure deal cut out a number of care-economy measures from his initial plan. AOC said progressive will "tank" the deal if a reconciliation bill isn't passed at the same time.

Maybe you guys want to explain why we need to pass a "bipartisan" deal when Democrats control Congress.

Moderates like Manchin are the reason Democrats are flailing and failing.

AOC is right. Democrats are stupid and weak.

How many bipartisan bills were passed during the Trump administration?

Zero?

But now. Let's all make sure we're including cancervatives.

Even Nancy Pelosi agreed.

"There ain't going to be an infrastructure bill unless we have the reconciliation bill passed by the United States Senate," Pelosi told reporters at the time.

@#3 ... Moderates like Manchin are the reason Democrats are flailing and failing...

Sen Manchin and other moderates are just the symptom.

The reason Democrats are flailing and failing is their idiotic embrace of ~Defund the Police~ last year, which cost them precious Congressional seats.

Sen Manchin would not be as "popular" if the Democrats that the majorities they could have had.

Not disagreeing.

But.

This doesn't explain why Some Democrats feel like a bipartisan deal is needed.

Try again.

"Defund the police" is a Democratic platform? Is that what you're implying?

You're smarter than that.

"Defund the police" was chanted by protesters. Picked up by Republicans and assigned to Democrats.

But hey. "Defund the police" seems to be worse for Democrats than the 1/6 insurrection is for Republicans.

Because Democrats suck at controlling the narrative and Republicans are masters of manipulation.

Because seemingly intelligent Democrats repeat bullshht like "defund the police" is a Democratic platform.

Where as Republicans claim 1/6 was a bunch of tourists. Or Antifa or BLM.

So Democrats aren't stuck holding the bag on the fallout. With infrastructure spending comes corruption, scandal, bridges to nowhere, lofty projects that make promises that are vastly scaled down but somehow cost even more than the original concept. It's not some new thing. The original Interstate build out was mired in controversy, abuse of the public trust, etc.

Go AOC, Go. She's the best. She knows who the real enemy is. Dino's sandbagging the party and it's agenda before it is even unveiled. You guys are clueless. The repubs pass horrible legislation on party lines with no defections but the Dems have to kiss Manchin ass to still be sandbagged in the end. Bipartisanship is a stupid fetish, the repubs never care about it at all. Even with massive majorities the Dems are feckless and ineffective. No wonder they always lose even with more votes.

Pathetic.

This is the best response you have?

You're such a submissive.

So happy with anything Republicans allow you to have.

You're *itching that a Democratic controlled Congress won't pass a bill that's been watered down by Republicans.

When you should be upset Democrats are wasting time consulting Republicans in the first place.

You're saying. Democrats want a bipartisan bill so they can blame Republicans?

I remember Democrats trying to appease Republicans when they were pushing Obamacare.

What a shht storm that was.

Looks like Democrats are dumber than I gave them credit for.

Because they're back at it with this infrastructure bill.

Hoping Republicans will join them to help America.

Bunch of fffking idiots.

#15 The dems can't pass any bill without GOP support or use reconciliation and have both Manchin and Sinema on board. That is the math. Pretending the dems can pass bills without GOP support is stupid.

The dems should like farm aid and the mil budget to their agenda. Infrastructure or no military and farms game of chicken.

I have a lot of respect for bipartisanship. It used to be more common but that was before 24 hour news. Most legislation nowadays comes in like a Trojan horse, virtuously named, but loaded with irrelevant BS. Half the time the sponsor knows it can never pass, they just weaponize the language to use against each other in the media wars.

Wouldn't it be amazing if each bill was required to be limited in scope to ONE actual issue or problem? Maybe then they could get some REAL work done.

If you want to address child care, immigration reform, and climate change then introduce separate bills but don't attach it to an infrastructure bill.

I think AOC is stinging from the NY mayors race. The most Conservative candidate won, and her endorsed candidate finished third, so he doesn't even have coattails in her own city. She went to the mic to try to remain relevant. Nancy and Rep. Jayapal have both said the two-track process was the only way forward, and Manchin agrees. By making this statement, AOC puts the whole deal at risk by discouraging some of the moderate GOPers from voting for the bipartisan bill because they dont want to be seen was supporting what she wants. Sometimes it's best just to STFU.

" AOC puts the whole deal at risk "

It seems like every sizable group has at least one person like this: safe seat, progressive voters, and totally convinced their experience is the universal one. While their ideas might be good, their beliefs and tactics are more detrimental to the overall cause than helpful, and the mainstream folks groan when they see that person headed for the mic.

Blah, blah. I see how far we're all getting with the incremental approach. Doesn't seem to be cutting it either. Maybe we should just give up and declare the US an oligarchy and give only corporate persons the franchise. Then the soccer moms and tech doofuses would be relieved of the burden of thinking at all. It would make life so much easier for millions.

I agree with you Danforth. AOC like most politicians and almost anyone seeking power put their ego ahead of anything else.
In the political realm it goes back to Newt Gingrich and his compromise means surrender philosophy.

" I cannot remember the last time dems reached' across"

When there were errors with the ACA, Republicans refused to fix the law in any way.

When Republicans passed the Trump tax code, there was an error Republicans made regarding how farmers would be taxed. Democrats voted with Republicans to fix the wording.
