As partisan debates rage on about urgent issues like the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change, a new survey finds that Republicans have less confidence in science by nearly a third since 1975.

Oh boy
Gotta play that race card, don't you.
The thread isn't about race, it's about political alignments and how they impact responsible decision making

In other words, it's about fake "conservative republicans" entitled by ignorant hubris and afforded the luxury of distrusting science, by science

If this trend continues, it will likely have adverse effects on national security.

Someone doesn't want to be a test subject for a "vaccine"

I bet you got the shot, though...because consistency isn't the rights strong suit.

eberly- I GET why black people are leery of govt shots. (tuskegee) I still think they're being dumb, but I get it.

Give me one good reason the trumpers have to deny science? They do it because their cult leader politicized masks and vaccines, that's why.

Just pulling that out

Yeah, only the government experimenting on people. No big. You think the community has forgotten?

You are obsessed with your "both sides do it" crap, I suspect because you're aware you've chosen the wrong side and you haven't the guts to move somewhere blue to do business.

Have a nice day.

@#2 ... Most of these people refusing the shot absolutely know ...

You talked to the millions of Americans who have refused to be vaccinated, and found out what they know absolutely?

How did you ever find the time for that?

It's great to see the GQP has changed their stance on choice. My body, my choice. Good for you! Or are you just hypocrites? Yeah, I thought so.

African Americans doubting information from the government regarding healthcare is caused by far more than Tuskegee. They have long been the victims of systemic racism in the healthcare system, doctors long believed that black people have higher pain tolerances and needed less pain management, black women have a maternal mortality rate close to that of third-world countries.

Most of these people refusing the shot absolutely know that if they have a severe side effect, no one is responsible for them.

The risk of a severe adverse event is 10-100x lower than risk of severe COVID.

So either you hang around with idiots or they're simply justifying their position with a poorly thought out rationale.

A woman wants to abort her pregnancy? not my business.

First of all, i call BS.

Second, a woman getting an abortion carries zero risk to you or anybody you know.

Comparing an infectious disease to an abortion only shows how idiotic you actually are.

"Most Republicans Don't Trust Science"

Know what? Science doesn't care.

This speaks volumes about how smart the people who vote red are and perfectly explains how they are the easy mark for a con man like fat nixon.

#31 | POSTED BY DANFORTH

I had to explain it to Eberly on another thread. I worked (volunteer) at the Tuskegee VA Hospital when the experiment was still going on ('66-'69, it wasn't terminated until '71). I worked in the medical photography department that documented the untreated lesions. These people were allowed to suffer from progressive disease while the medical staff merely documented the course of the disease. They lied to the patients telling them that they were being given treatment. Now some blacks question whether they are getting "the real vaccine". See how that works?

#32 | Posted by WhoDaMan at 2021-07-19 12:20 PM | Reply

they don't trust democrats. It's a sad and pathetic reality, unfortunately.
#44 | POSTED BY EBERLY

Are you under the impression that most scientists are democrats? How about a link for that? And if it is true, I wonder why, don't you?

#33 | Posted by WhoDaMan at 2021-07-19 12:22 PM | Reply

IMHO, "conservatives" don't like science because of its principle of "falsifiability". They don't like the idea that they can be proved to be wrong about anything. They also probably flunked Geometry.

Yes the study is 11 years old but I would posit that the intervening years have moved the needle further towards dems

My theory as to why is that republicans tend to think they can shape reality while dems tend to accept reality and adjust accordingly

"They don't trust democrats"

Obviously not the fault of "conservative" leadership

#37 | Posted by ChiefTutMoses at 2021-07-19 12:40 PM | Reply

It's not in a vacuum. You have to also consider 400 years of lies and mistreatment. Do you not realize that all ethnicities have historical grievances? Like the Irish vis a vis Northern Ireland, or the Armenians vs the Turks, Shia vs Sunni, etc. Some of these are centuries or millennia old, but blacks should just disregard 400 years of slavery/Jim Crow in this country?

Musta been all those Tuskegee experiments that Democrats did on Republicans...

#40 | Posted by snoofy at 2021-07-19 12:57 PM | Reply

I don't disagree. Today's republican is retarded

But how does your rationale, (today) line up with your other rationale, (yesterday) that conservative leadership is not to blame for their bases behavior?

You just wrote that it was leadership, (not hard to see) that hoodwinked their followers into politicizing science.

"And lot of non trumpers are about to start contracting, spreading, and dying from this new strain."

Meet the new strain.
Same as the old strain.

Health disparaties existed long before COVID-19, even if you only acknowledged their existence in your drunken stupor on Saturday, and forgot about them in your drunken stupor on Sunday.

Republicans don't want an educated populace. Republican voters are eager to oblige.

#46 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2021-07-19 01:26 PM | Reply

and I can accept some lacking of trust of the part of blacks but the question remains how many unvaccinated blacks made that choice over Jim Crow, etc.

Distrust becomes endemic within a community -- any community. It's not necessarily a conscious explicit response to any one thing.

"look at how Trump got people to ignore scientific reality"

Thanks Republicans. You built this.

It's like we are entering another Dark Age. If enough of these these Trumpy clowns had been around when we were eradicating polio in America we would still be suffering from polio in America. Polio still exists and if we stopped vaccinating ourselves from it then it will return.

How long do we have to suffer fools like bellefinger before America emerges from this current "Dark Age"?

If they continue have their say and folks continue to be fooled by them then this pandemic could go on for another 300 years. Just like the Black Plague did due to our collective ignorance back then.

Thank the oil industry.

When science discovered their products were roasting the planet, they decided to attack science. They did that my associating science with liberalism, and telling them liberals were evil. Therefore science = evil.
