Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Monday, July 19, 2021

A look at the data reveals that the vaccine hesitant group, however, are not big Trump lovers. They're actually likely not to be Republican. Instead, many of them are people who are detached from the political process and didn't vote for either major candidate in 2020.

This is very much unlike the vaccine resistant group, of whom 55% are Republican or Republican leaning independents. Just 21% of that group are Democrats or Democratic leaning independents. The Kaiser poll points to a larger problem: There isn't going to be a single ideological message that appeals to a majority of the vaccine hesitant group. They're of all political stripes.

I've sort of been saying that.....at least something close. That it's not as much about politics and many here need to believe.

but this sort of news just spoils the fun here.

The fun in posting things like "Good...I'm glad every one of these trump ------------- dies" or "shouldn't we be rooting for them to die for being so stupid?"

-The overwhelming plurality (48%) were people who either didn't vote, voted third party or weren't willing to disclose who they cast a ballot for.

How did Trump influence this group so much?

Answer.....he didn't. They have their doubts for other reasons.

I totally get that there is this group of people with no politically leaning that are just not going to get it either. My son is just a gamer/skateboarder but is against the vaccine because he has "heard the side effects are worse than the sickness". I ask where he heard it, "around" he says. He is 20 and has never voted because he doesnt follow politics and doesnt care. I dont push him to vote because I'd rather he just not if he doesnt understand the options. His father and I both are fully vaccinated and had no side effects, which doesnt change his mind in the least. He had lung problems as a teenager and spent time in the hospital so I push as much as mom can and explain as much as possible, but I cant make that decision for him. I dont understand his stance and I dont know where he gets some of the whack information he comes up with. Thankfully he DOES wear a mask and where we live has seen very low Covid case numbers. I hope something clicks and he changes his mind...

"CNN: Why politicians won't reach the vaccine hesitant"

Some politicians certainly try.

There's even Republicans who try!

As it stands, we can more or less define the problem with the pandemic is that Trumpers and Democrat Minorities won't get vaccinated.

Now, Democrat leaders are about as committed to stopping the pandemic as they can get. Some kinda went the other way here and there, like when Cuomo threatened civil war over a quarantine. Some would argue Biden opened up too early, but we all know which wat the wind blows.

One party's policy is clearly pro-vaccine and pro-mask, and one side is clearly not.

Democrat leaders have done as much as they can do. And they're still trying, they had Kathleen Harris with some rapper or TikTok or whatever.

Why won't the Republican party take a party line like the Democrats have and encourage Republicans to get vaccinated?

Trump could save thousands and thousands of lives if he took a different tack on this issue.

Why won't he?

Why do Republicans keep following this madman?

His politics is death. Following him literally increases the chances of not only your own death, but the death of everyone in America.

That's something Republicans could change.

I should have read the article before I wrote my earlier post.

It would still help for Trump to change his tune though!

It might drive the disaffected even further from the process, but as the article states:

"The poll gets at the fact that the efforts to vaccinate the population isn't a political campaign to reel in voters."

Because it's not. It's always been an effort to save lives, until Trump politicized it.

As for those outsiders, if I were an outsider looking in at a political system where "should we keep spreading a plague" was a topic of debate, I might reasonably conclude it's not worth wasting my time trying to reason with them.

If the people running the show are this bad at ------- the world up, hey, why not become a Pepper.

My unvaccinated friends are Preppers. I don't see how not getting vaccinated helps with being prepped. And I don't think I'm going to ask either.

One positive takeaway if you dig into the data is that 36% don't want the vaccine or will wait and see, but only 28% have children under 18 at home.

So maybe the kids will be all right.

I'd sure hope helping others is over-represented among adults taking care of children.

Or maybe you're saying that even if Trump changed his tune, it wouldn't change their minds.

But he could still pull some Democrats, who make up 40% of the "Wait and see" group.

The most recent Kaiser poll helps illustrate that the vaccine hesitant group doesn't really lean Republican. Just 20% of the group called themselves Republican with an additional 19% being independents who leaned Republican. . . .

This is very much unlike the vaccine resistant group, of whom 55% are Republican or Republican leaning independents.

So, the majority of the vaccine hesitant ("i.e. the wait and see group") are not Republicans, but the majority of the vaccine resistant ("will either definitely not get one or will only get one if it is required") are? IOW, the majority of the vaccine resistant could be/are likely to be Trump lovers? Got it.

There's only one party that decided to turn Covid political.

That was Republicans, mainly Trump, who turned this into political football.

COVID was a Democratic hoax. Wearing masks was an assault on freedom. Quarantines were an attempt to bring communism to America. It's no more dangerous than the flu.

For starters...

CNN says it is an analysis.

An analysis is not news reporting.

It is an interesting analysis, but just that, an analysis.

Secondly...

Conservative hostility to Biden vaccine push surges with Covid cases on the rise
www.nbcnews.com

...Some in the GOP have felt compelled to reiterate support for getting the shot, with McConnell saying he was "totally perplexed" by the ongoing resistance.

At last weekend's Conservative Political Action Conference in Dallas, Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., told the crowd: "Don't come knocking on my door with your 'Fauci ouchie.' You leave us the hell alone."

It's the kind of rhetoric that's common for Boebert, who has positioned herself to the right of most other conservative politicians in Washington. On vaccinations, however, Boebert's message is not the exception. For a sizable chunk of the Republican Party and conservative media apparatus, pushing back on the Biden administration's efforts to vaccinate the country has become the norm in recent weeks.

That animosity reached a peak this month after President Joe Biden announced his intent to expand those efforts as the delta variant spreads, posing a particular threat to the unvaccinated population. His administration had fallen just short of his July 4 goal of getting 70 percent of the adult population inoculated with at least one dose " a shortcoming that was cheered at CPAC.

"For people who are politically intoxicated, which is a lot of the country right now, it makes sense to celebrate any failure by the administration," former Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., told NBC News....

So a Republican is celebrating that the United States is falling behind in vaccinating people, and celebrating it only because it makes a Democrat look bad?

So he is effectively saying that it is OK for Americans to die, if it can be used to make a Democrat look bad.

#1 | POSTED BY BELLRINGER

It's certainly old news. It was published May 9.

Here's newer information.

abcnews.go.com

Partisan divisions are sharp, underscoring the politicization of the pandemic: Overall just 45% think the government is accurately describing the risk of the delta variant; 35% say it's exaggerating it, with 18% unsure. Several groups are especially likely to say it's being exaggerated, including Republicans (57%), conservatives (55%), evangelical white Protestants (49%) and rural residents (47%).

Further down:

Table results for "vaccinated or plan to be":

Democrats-93
Independents-65
Republicans-39

Liberals-83
Moderates-78
Conservatives-51

(more data there showing low affirmative responses from evangelicals, rural residents and non-college educated, I just don't feel like typing it all out)

Also

The survey also shows Black adults, at 79%, are more apt than others to say they either have gotten a shot or will do so; it's 68% among whites and 70% among Hispanics. That's a positive sign after earlier, higher vaccine hesitancy among Black people.

So congratulations. It's not all Republicans yaaaaaaaaaay. Good for you.

The desire to make this all about republicans is too strong.

Trump called Covid a hoax.

Republicans turned it political.

Whether it was wearing a mask, which they not only refused to do, but in many cases became violent over.

Or quarantining, which they not only refused to do, they also had "herd immunity" festivals and continued to gather at political rallies, one of which killed Herman Cain.

They stormed Capitol Buildings in Michigan, Tennessee, and Kentucky in response to the quarantine.

They forced schools to reopen under threat of cutting funding.

Showed videos of Nancy Pelosi getting a haircut and Fauci going to a baseball game.

But sure. It's Democrats who are turning this political. By getting vaccinated and talking trash about none vaccinated Republicans.

I love the armchair virologists on this thread LOL

The vaccine is dangerous because it only targets a certain spike protein.

There are many vaccines that only target a single protein, usually a structural protein when it comes to viruses.

Why? Because the chosen structural protein is the necessary protein for cellular entry. Studding the virus with antibodies on that protein does three things

a. neutralizes the virus (prevents binding to cells)
b. marks it for uptake by a specialized class of cells called antigen presenting cells (APCs); uptake results in degradation of the virus and presentation to T and B cells for activation of the immune response
c. recruits factors from a cascade called complement

All of these three things function to reduce circulating virus and kill cells that are infected. Even partial immunity via an imperfect antibody-virus match is sufficient to decrease viral titers, symptoms and contagiousness, which is what we're seeing now.

It does not make one sterile to covid.

Sterilizing immunity is a high bar that isn't required for a vaccine to be effective.

Soon covid will adapt and in a few months your vaccine will be worthless.

Has any other vaccine failed that spectacularly? No. This one won't either because it doesn't work that way.

It's artificially selecting against S spike. With so many Vaccinated able to be infected you can almost guarantee Covid will adapt. It's already been happening.

It always was happening. It will always happen.

You tools seem to be under the impression that this is the first novel virus to ever be introduced to the human population.

Delta variant to Delta+ variant to something worse.
#109 | POSTED BY FSUKNOWIT

And partial immunity will still control the infection, leading to lessened disease severity and death until SARS-CoVV-2 is another seasonal coronavirus that ebbs and flows from season to season.

According to #133 the vaccine cuts in half your chances of needing to be hospitalized or becoming critical.

And it's probably the case that older people are vaccinated above the 57.9% national average.

And I wouldn't be surprised if vaccine resistant people are less likely to engage health services and become part of the numerator in those case counts.

But it's definitely an interesting result.

Easier for a layperson to follow than previous links. If I'm reading it correctly, two things I took from the article: the vaccinated and the unvaccinated who've covid previously will both be at risk if/when a vaccine resistant strain of covid comes along:

"This is to say that at this stage, it would only take very few additonal targeted mutatons
within the viral receptor-binding domain to fully resist S-specifc ant-Covid-19 Abs, regardless whether the later are elicited by the vaccine or by natural infecton. At that stage, the virus will, indeed, have managed to gain access to a huge reservoir of subjects who have now become highly susceptble to disease as their S-specifc Abs have now become useless in terms of protecton but stll manage to provide for long-lived suppression of their innate immunity (i.e., natural infecton, and especially vaccinaton, elicit relatvely long-lived specifc Ab tters). The susceptble reservoir comprises both, vaccinated people and those who're lef with sufcient S-specifc Abs due to previous Covid-19 disease)."

Mass vaccination is the way out but just with different vaccines:

"Paradoxically, the only interventon that could ofer a perspectve to end this pandemic (other than to let it run its disastrous course) is ... VACCINATION. Of course, the type of vaccines to be used would be completely diferent from conventonal vaccines in that they're not inducing the usual suspects, i.e., B and T cells, but NK cells. . . . If we, human beings, are commited to perpetuatng our species, we have no choice lef but to eradicate these highly infectous viral variants. This will, indeed, require large vaccinaton campaigns. However, NK cell-based vaccines will primarily enable our natural immunity to be beter prepared (memory!) and to induce herd immunity (which is exactly the opposite of what current Covid-19 vaccines do as those increasingly turn vaccine recipients into asymptomatc carriers who are shedding virus). So, there is not one second left for gears to be switched and to replace the current killer vaccines by life-saving vaccines."

Do such vaccine exist? The article doesn't say. Sounds like a call for the mother of all warp speed vaccination programs.
