Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, July 20, 2021

A spike in patient admissions for COVID-19 has put Florida hospitals on high alert, with Miami-Dade's Jackson Health System announcing that it would suspend visitations at many of its facilities beginning Wednesday. Driven by a highly contagious variant of the virus and the significant share of Floridians who remain unvaccinated, the number of new infections reported weekly by Florida's health department has increased more than fourfold in a month, from 10,095 cases for the week ending June 17 to 45,449 on Friday. South Florida hospitals have experienced a similar though less dramatic rise in patients with severe symptoms " pushing them to reinforce preventive measures and to prepare, once again, for a potential surge in the pandemic.

DeathSantis is only a slightly less corrupt piece of crap than Fat Nixon. Slightly.

I wonder if Gov. DeathSentence is happy now? It's like many of the GQP governors are trying to outdo each other for the race to be the number one COVID death state in the union. By the time DeathSentence runs for POTUS, all President Biden will have to do is point to the death numbers from FL, and ask the voters if that's who they want to run the country. The vast majority will reject him. He's like a younger Dotard but somehow has even less charisma.

55,000+ new cases yesterday. That we know of.

Same levels as last summer's surge that led to a mega surge in the fall/winter.

It's the media's fault for reporting what a sh*tty governor he is.

It's always someone else's fault in cancervat*rd world.

Give them enough morphine to euthenize the terminal cases and have a big screen playing a live feed of their dying anywhere stupid people gather.

#11 | Posted by Tor at 2021-07-20 07:53 PM | Reply

Why not just tie the afflicted to a post in public and people watch them slowly die in person?

#12 | Posted by sentinel at 2021-07-20 08:20 PM | Reply

They're dying they don't need to suffer any more than they already are.

How blatantly is DeathSantis going to undercount COVID deaths this time around?

Can you even diagnose most "terminal" cases of COVID in time to euthanize them, as you suggested?

Baptist Health's current number of hospitalized COVID patients is about half the number the hospital system saw in July 2020. Pipkin said Baptist Health is not changing its visitation policy, and that social distancing measures have been in place throughout the pandemic and will remain for the foreseeable future.

I don't think we'll have the same level of surge as last winter.

Those of us smart enough to be vaccinated have helped that.

But there will be a surge.

I think this time next year we'll be entering the endemic stage.

#18 And places like Africa won't even have a chance to achieve herd immunity levels of vaccination until 2023, at the earliest.

It's a brave new world. There is no going back.

You mean the same article at the top of the page?

The one that lays out multiple examples of hospitals changing visitation policies prior to the one you cherry pick?

The cherry picked example that is likely because they never loosened visitation policies?

LOL STFU indeed.

Loser.

Monday's new COVID cases: 55,000+
Yesterday's new COVID cases: 61,000+

Trumpers won't get vaccinated in the numbers needed to attain herd immunity and stop new variants from becoming widespread.

Florida here.

about half the number the hospital system saw in July 2020
The hospital system was totally overrun July 2020. They have the same restrictions today they had then, and Baptist has suspended (from the article) visitation. They're in full July 2020 lockdown. The other hospitals mentioned are either in the process of, or just about to do the same.

They're in dire straights now and are already on the edge of hitting full capacity.

"Most of our hospitals are at capacity but we're able to manage the capacity for now," said Bo Boulenger, chief operating officer for Baptist Health. "We are seeing a very high rate of people needing to be admitted to our hospitals because of the virus. It is double the admission rate during the peak in early April."

There was no good news in that story, so I have no idea what the "STFU" was about.

From what I've seen, that alias tends to cherry-pick a quote from an article then misrepresent it in a comment, apparently trying to negate what others say.

Such tactics just diminish the views the alias is trying to convey.

DeSantis: the new, younger, less orange, almost-as-crooked Dotard.
And in this illiterate country, he very well may be elected president.

I heard a stat yesterday that FL accounts for 1/3 of new COVID cases.

#27 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2021-07-21 08:14 PM | Reply

The numbers for the 20th (last complete numbers) had the US at 62,484 new cases that day, and Florida had 24,017 new cases.

That means Florida accounted for more than 38% /b>of the new cases yesterday.
